We went to hotel Skanes Hotel Hana and we were half board. The hotel was clean and the maids cleaned even when asked and when not asked. The rooms were air conditioned and had a great sized balcony. the hotel food was nasty it was chips every day and beef. The flies inthe hotel always landed on the food and put people off. It was located in an area where there was go-karting at the end of the road which i enjoyed a lot. the hotel staff were brilliant. Fetti a waiter was brilliant he was very good. The entertainment was very good and sam (Rigby)was a good dancer and he entertained us a lot. The bingo was good and i played nearly every night. i would visit this hotel again if they changed what was on the menu. the pool is very big and good. there is two other pools one for toddlers and one for children a little older.

I went to this hotel with my family and we had an alright time. we had great maids who cleaned our rooms when we asked. they cleaned our rooms when we asked and put our pyjamas in a little bow on our beds. the food at the hotel was not very good. it was okay some nights, but it was constantly beef. they tried to put steak on the menu but you knew that it was beef. the hotel was in a great location. as the telephone in the hotel was dear, we could travel down the road to a shell garage and use for a alot cheaper. there was also go karting down the road. that was good. it was cheap aswell. the hotel staff was very good. Fetti (fred) was very good. he was our waiter every night. because he was so good if he wasnt outside we would go in the lounge for him to serve us. the entertainment staff were very good. one of them we named rigby, but his name was really sam. he did a lot o work. and done the kids disco. and took a lot of time with the disco.the pool was very good, there was like a large pool, a medium pool, and a small pool. they were very clean apart from the insects falling in. loads of insects would fall in and would have to be got out by a net. round the edge of the pools the paint was chipped,xo they repainted it. The lifeguards were very good aswell. the resturants in the hotel like the pizzeria were very good. the pizzas were delicous. i was lucky they done drinks like fanta and coke, and ice creams like cornettos! the hotel shop was quite good. a little expensive though. i would go back to this hotel, but only if the food was different and the shop was a bit cheaper.

I'm 19 years old and visited Skanes el hana with my sister. I have stayed in this hotel 3 times before it was recomened by by mum and dad who had been before.
I really liked this hotel the staff were really nice especially Anis who is one of the entertainers he really looks after you.
The food there is ok but no good for people who aren't willing to try anything. But they do have pizza place next to the in door swimming pool which is fine.
Entertainment is very good for children as they have a kids club and mini disco every night for them. Not really good for young people not alot to do at night.
There is a night club on the premises which we went to every night with the entertainers Anis, Sam and the dj Momo which can get a bit boring as the same music every night.

I have stayed in many hotels around the world and I can honestly say that this is never a 4 Star Hotel perhaps a 3 at a push. The cleaners did not clean just made the bed, the toilets leaked, the hot water every few days came out brown and you could not bath in it at all. The entertainment was good for the children but limited otherwise and when there was some decent entertainment they tried to charge us for it! The baby high chairs were constantly dirty and there was a shortage so everyone was fighting for one. The airtours rep was no use he was more interested in selling excursions rather than filling us in on small issues such as Jelly fish. Food was ok basic and not 4 star. The staff were very friendly and good with the children. Be aware that a tip after any purchase is expected which becomes a pain after a while. The best way to travel is in a yellow cab steer clear of the other public transport. For shopping it is much easier to use the fixed price shop/supermarket across the road from the hotel, if you enjoy being hassled every step you take down the street and not allowed out a shop until you have bought something then a trip to the shops in monistir is for you!! Overall the staff and the beach are lovely, but I have now been to Tunisia and I can say I enjoyed it but wont be back for the money we paid I really did expect a bit more, the hotel needs a good bit of money spent on it to bring it into the 21st century.

We arrived at the hotel with very low expectations. This was because having booked the holiday, we were told by just about everybody that Tunisia was full of rapists, thieves and child abducters not to mention horror stories concerning food hygiene and camel spiders the size of dogs that chew on your toes at night!
Anyway... we arrived to be greeted by luggage porters at the airport who quickly loaded our luggage onto a trolley and dashed off! I immediately thought he was nicking it so ran after him, followed by my stressed "not good on an airoplane" wife, two young sons loving all the action and two teenage daughters trying to be cool and far more interested in the young airport security guards than anything else that was happening.
We arrived shortly after the luggage porter who loaded our lugage onto our transfer which was great. we had absolutely no cash on us and felt guilty that we could not drop the guy a quid or two, but he was laid on by panorama and had been paid.
On arrival at the el hana we again were greeted by porters who took our luggage to our rooms whilst we filled out the necessary visa forms. We were taken aback by the sheer size of the place. The reception hall is a huge area with marble floors, reception desk, money exchange etc.
Our rooms overlooked the sea and whilst not being luxurious, they were clean and comfortable. Each had a balcony with stunning views out to sea and over to sousse.
The outdoor pool area is massive. You have to pay 1.5 dinars (75p) for a sunlounger which you can take to the beach if you want or just stay by the pool. There is a crepe bar by the pool and you can order pizzas etc from the snack bar. The is an entertainment team who encourage the kids to take part in polo darts volleyball dancing, football.... you name it. They even managed to prize me off my sunbed for and exhausting game of darts. The kids enjoyed the fact that you could get involved if you want to and give it a miss if you preferred. By the second week I had got a little tired of being cajoled into moving off my sunbed and after a polite word in their ear they left me alone.
The staff will wait on you hand and foot but they expect a tip every time they serve you so just bear that in mind. Its good to have a supply of half dinar coins because if you tip them too much, word gets about and every time you go to get up, they think you are going to the bar and you are faced with a stampede of waiters coming right at ya.
The beach is lovely and we were hassled less on that beach than on others we have visited in more developed countries.....including blackpool...skeggy......
The water is clean, clear warm and perfectly safe. The beach is on a slight incline so paddling is safe as you can stand up for a long way out to sea. I swam in the sea every morning at about 7:00am. There were a few local kids out there every morning catching fish with nets and sharp sticks. It was very warm already at that time of the day.
The restaurant was our biggest surprise. we had budgeted to eat out as we were expecting inedible unrecognisable food. How wrong!
The buffet at breakfast was plentiful, the beans were peculiar and the sausages would be best missed...(trust me ;-)) but everything else was great and there were loads of different cereals for the kids to choose from.
Dinner was even better. Every night over two weeks the food was different. Because its a buffet, if you pick something you dont like you can go up and get something different instead.
The table linnen, crockery and cutlery were spotless, as were the staff and the buffet replenished at a rate that would make a british hotelier cry for his mummy. That buffet looked as good at 9:00pm as it did at 7:30pm.
So the bad stuff...
You may on occaision see the odd cockroach galloping down the corridor, but we never had one in our room.
The locals that come in and use the pool - seems mandatory wherever you go - can have a weakness for western clothes in particular man united tops etc, so keep an eye on them. Security guards keep everyone out most of the time, but sundays seems to be less well managed.
Local shopping is an experience. Go with an open mind and a posotive approach. When getting hassled, which you definately will, remember that it is their way of life and we are there to sample it. A friendly "no thank you" and a smile usually gets rid of them. If you get any of the dodgy guys who put head dresses on your kids then ask for money, and wont take no for an answer, just say "POLICE". They all understand that!
Theres a guy in a horse and trap outside the hotel. Don't go near him. We got on for a ride after he said 5 dinars - we were only going to the local shop, 5 min walk - he wanted my sons to sit up front next to him but i wouldnt let them so he got me instead!
He started heading for the next town and told me it would be 60 dinars! I told him to stop but he wouldn't so i grabbed the reigns and stopped the horse! I told the kids and the mrs to get off and he sped off!
They all stood there looking at me saying how brave and cool I was and I even got a "my hero" out of the wife! It all added to the fun of the holiday really!
Back at the hotel - The disco! It starts on the stroke of midnight and finishes on the stroke of 2:00am. It is incredibly loud with a base like you wouldn't believe. We never went to it as it seems to be aimed more for the staff and staff from other hotels and there were a few nights when fights broke out. We often sat on our balcony until it had finished as there was no way you could have slept through it..
Ask for a room away from the disco when you check in and you should be fine.
Thats it! warts and all. Overall we had a great time, and hope to return in 2005. Its dead cheap for what you get and you have to take what you dont like in your stride.
