Sailed on the destiny on 4th May 2006. First time on this ship but have sailed on each of the other thomson ships in the last 12 months. Booked a few weeks beforehand via the internet and the thomson website is very easy to use. It looks like the ship had been done up with new carpets, and for its age appears in good condition. It is however a 3 star boat and the discounted price we paid was good value for money. On the downside the cabins are the small side and I would not like to have booked more than one week with this size and you can hear conversations with ease in ajoining cabins. We were at the front of the ship on deck 6 and when in the atlantic you could feel considerable movement. The toilet failed on about 10 ocasions during the week and a number of other public toilets were out of order and I suspect the ships plumber was the hardest working member of the crew that week. In rating the thomson ships I would rate spirt 1st celbration 2nd emrald 3rd and destiny 4th. The crew were excellent but I did not like the assistant cruise director on the last night suggesting the ladies should chose a male crew member and smack his bottom a bit rowdy for my liking.

Hi all i also have just come back from 2 weeks on the Destiny. What can I say, brilliant. The staff were fantastic, the cabin even though it reminded me of a caravan was comfy (by the way Pam I got a toweling Monkey I giggled at when we came back from our night out and saw him dangeling there with my sunglasses and hat on) Hi to Gary our cabin crew. The food was out of this world and my waist has suffered. 10lbs gained in two weeks lol.We had the free drinks package which was a blessing you don't have to worry about carrying money around with you. We went on the Express Train (new excursion) and I must say I was disappointed because it was very disorgainsed. I would adivise anyone its not worth £89.00 each to sit in a posh train but. Rome was fantastic so the memory of the Train soon disappeared. To all the lovely people we met on board a big wave.

We just got back from our first cruise. We sailed on 11th May for 1 week on the Meditteranian Renaisance itinery. It was FAB! the food was excellent, there was always something you fancied! We ate mostly in the Lido Cafe as you could watch the ship sailing. The staff were brilliant, so friendly and helpful. Big shout to Antonio in the Sky Bar and also to Simona, the bar waitress, this girl was an absolute hoot and kept us smiling throughout our holiday! Our cabin was on deck 3 outside and it was very nice, had everything you needed. The entertainment was really prefessional and the costumes were amazing! We had the all inclusive option which we got free when booking, I would reccommend this to everyone because it means the cocktails are all free!! The only thing I was VERY dissapointed in was certain Thomson staff working on the Destination Services Desk, they are extremely unhelpful if you want to do your own thing. We asked about going into Pisa and the best way to do this and were told bluntly that a taxi was our only option and that it would cost E120! I was told there were no buses or trains. THERE WERE BUSES AND TRAINS! We did Pisa for approx 15 euros for both of us. My top tip is to do your own thing instead of paying ott prices for Thomson excursions. We never did an excursion and still saw Monaco, Pisa, Rome, Menorca and Palma! There are either buses or trains in all the ports and they cost next to noithing! All in all we loved this cruise and are looking to book again soon!

First time on cruise and thanks to this holiday the last! TUG BOAT ANNIE....BUTTLINS ON SEA.
Cabins small and inadequate, shower leaked on all occasions flooding bathroom.Towels and linen old threadbare. The ship is old and tired.
Throughout the trip whilst trying to sunbathe we would be chased along the decks by crew power washing or sanding the decks.
Sunbath on deck 7 prom deck and you get covered in soot.
Awoken at 6am crew power washing windows.
The cabin walls are so thin break wind and the 3rd cabin along knew.
Dress code ...the cruise news suggested dress code each evening I took 3 suits need not have bothered I saw training shoes denim jackets T shirts.
On deck 10 Lido cafe saw bare chested men with sweaty armpits and old ladies wearing bikinis at the buffet food counter.
Dress code rules were not enforced.
On the plus side the staff on the whole were good except the waiter who continually pawed my wife was rude and called her love.
Food was very good,if you want to eat and drink 24hrs this is for you.
Places visited wonderful
Last point most people have cough we think its the air con.mine has ended up as a chest infection sickness diarrhoea cost me for the privilage £45 doctor and £30 late checkout room.Never again.

this was our first cruise, and it was absolutely excellent. we sailed on the 11th may. It was just so different from an ordinary package holiday, you need to do a cruise to know what i mean. Everything scored 100 per cent with us on the Destiny. Food, staff, clenliness, entertainment - all fantastic. Been back over a week now and i still can't shake the good memories, which must mean i enjoyed it!
One thing i did really enjoy which no one else seems to have mentioned is getting up well before the ship entered port, and just soaking up the experience, whatching the captain and officers at work etc (go up to the front of deck 9 or 10, you are above the bridge).
Also, great views as she leaves port in the evenings, cocktail in hand!
Can't wait for our next cruise !!!

All I will say is Spot on,YES, to all the other glowing reports.
Our first cruise and I'm already looking to book again.

We did the Jewels of the Med 18th May. Take note of other the postings on DIY days as we found these excellent tips, especially catching the train to Pompei Scava, it's not the main line service but the Local (Similar to tubes in London)which is accessed by the escalators to the lower level. 3.5 euros return !!Catch the train going to Sorrento.
Deal carefully with the pony & trap bods in Palermo. Quoted 20 euros for a trip to the Cathedral & then to the ship from the town centre. Actually was taken direct to the ship (10 mins) and was asked for 20 euros each. The Driver was a tifle upset when I told him where to go and only gave him 20 euros.

OK so the shower leaked a little and the Loo stopped working for about 15 minutes once and the walls are a bit thin, not a big problem. recommend pre-booking a cabin on deck 3. deck 2 seemed to be a bit noisy for a few.
In conclusion, Never a dull moment, had a ball.

Like Mark-Yorkshire agree with him particularly the £4 charge on shuttle bus.
Food + entertainment very good, spent most evenings in the Oaklahoma lounge, game shows + live music good.
This was my 10th Thomson cruise + standards still high.Think i would still prefer Spirit,if only for the Lido cafe.On Destiny it is at mercy of the weather, last 3days of cruise was gale force winds + you had to wear fleece jackets to eat in Lido cafe.At breakfast it was freezing.
Dont imagine anything done to cabins in refit (small + scruffy)i was on Deck 5 in outside cabin.on last day paid £30 for late check-out cabin (09:00-16:00)as wasn't leaving ship until 17:00hrs,cabin was inside on deck 2 (like a cell)was a godsend as didn't get to bed until 03:30 last night.

Smoking,,,,,
Smoking is restricted to small areas on ship,
Clipper Bar,,,,Small area
Oaklahoma Caberet loung,,,Row of tables/chairs on one side.
No Smoking on poolside loungers
No Smoking in Blakes Bar
No Smoking in Sky Bar
No Smoking in Can-Can lounge
No Smoking at Pool Bar
No Smoking on one side of open decks
No Smoking on one side of Mast Bar.
Did one trip Milan (£45)+4 hrs travelling + 5hrs in Milan, not again.La Spezia on a Sunday shut.

We sailed on the Destiny on May 18th 2006. The ship was spectacular!! The place was so clean, the food was out of this world and the selection was amazing. It astounded me how much food there was. The staff were so friendly and we took our 3 year old son and they were fantastic with him. The kidszone was really great and my son kept abandoning us to go there, the staff were wonderful with him. We didn't get to see a lot of the entertainment due to my son being young but what we did see was fantastic. Before we went we heard a few bad reviews, all i can say is that we loved it and couldn't fault it one bit and think that those who have wrote a bad review you would not be able to please them for anything. If we did have a problem like the toilet didn't flus - we rang reception and literally within 2 minutes someone was down and it was fixed!! Really recommend this ship

Having sailed on the Sunbird and also several times with P & O we wondered what the Thomson cruise experience would be like.
We neednt have worried, the holiday was superb from start to finish. If anything it has improved on the
Airtours package.
The entertainment was top class, easily on a par with P & O, the dining options endless, and everyone from waiters to bar staff going out of their way to be friendly and helpful.
What a wonderful, friendly ship and crew, we cant wait to sail on her again!

Can I just add, anyone who thinks Butlins is anything like this ship has A: Never been to Butlins or B: is a professional moaner ( of which there are plenty ).

Hi all I would like to agree with everyone! There were issues with quality of the food, the age of the ship and the associated problems with the cabins being tiny, leaky showers etc however we had an all inclusive drinks package which was excellent value for money with brand name spirits, beers and cocktails completely free.

The entertainment was absolutely fantastic (we don't usually go but having hooked us in with one show we then went every night) and the whole crew were very happy, relaxed and helpful.

We did a Royal Caribbean Cruise last year and will be going again later this year and of course this cannot compare in quality on food, cabins, public areas or dress codes (I was constantly overdressed at my table even in little sundresses which I resorted to wearing) although having said that if you pick your resort trips wisely (we did cassis, pompeii, celfalu sorry not sure of spellings and all were excellent) and eat out during the day, and remain in Blakes for cocktails and piano playing you can have a fantastic cruise which is superb value for money.

I wouldn't do this ship again but might be tempted to try one of the bigger ones if I got another bargin.
