We spent a week on board the Destiny (Med Renaisance) followed by a week in Cala Millor.

Couldn't fault the ship, from arrival at the Quayside prior to embarkation to boarding the ship, everything ran smoothly, Like most comments yes I agree that the Cabin was on the small side (especially when there are 4 sharing the one cabin), but as it is used as a base to get changed/sleep in we somehow managed to put up with the cramped conditions (although I am sure that my wife would disagree). The actual ship, although showing some signs of age could'nt really be faulted, neither could the ships staff, who we found to be most courteous.

The food was fantastic (and plentiful),we ate in the Seven Seas resteraunt every evening (big thanks to Tom our waiter - who couldnt do enough for us), and if we were feeling peckish later in the evening would then go to the Lido for more food (this ship is not for light eaters).

We went on a couple of the organised tours (Monaco & Florence), both we found to be exceptional value for money (and we were accompanied by really good tour guides - especially Dominique on the Monaco trip).

The entertainment on board was of a high standard - especially enjoyed watching Bernie Flint - really funny (didnt know that he had won opportunity knocks 12 weeks running - LOL).

We went on the All Inclusive package and would recommend that you take this option as it will save you a fortune.

To sum up - couldnt fault the ship/crew and would recommend you to go on this cruise - Thomson's certainly know how to run a good cruise.

Just got back from cruising on the Destiny yesterday morning, and had the most amazing time ever.

The ship was really clean although simple and cabins small. Frady who was looking after our cabin did a great job so never had a complaint about that.
Always waiters about in the Lido and Seven seas so things were cleaned up straight awayeven when really really busy.

The food in Seven seas restaurant was amazing, didn't have 1 bad meal...the only problem on this ship is how much there is around to eat. Easy to see how people can put weight on. Gotta give a big thanks to Semon and Vova who were 2 of the best waiters onboard.

All the staff we met were lovely, constantly asking if we would like a drink or anything which is lovely, big shout out to Bianca and Edward who worked around the pools and also in the can can lounge.

One word for the entertainment and especially the showteam...WOW!!!!
Was really not bothered about going to the shows each night, but after the first one we were never away...loved the Africa show and We are the champions. Matt, Craig, Corey, Jay and all the others are brilliant.

As to the question would i sail on this ship again????

I'm booking to go back on in less than 3 weeks time for another week...so YES DEFFINATLEY!!

First time cruiser - so glad I chose the Destiny to give me an idea of what this type of holiday is all about. As everyone has said the cabins are small but extremely adequate, fine for a single passenger, cleaned at least twice a day. I ate mainly in the Lido cafe and thought the food here was really good,(especially the fresh scones served for afternoon tea each day at 4.00pm) lots of choice all through the day and night. I had decided before my holiday that I wouldnt take any of the Thomson tours, however, I chickend out when it came to Rome and booked the Monuments of Rome trip (with lunch) - this was in my view well worth the £55 with a very knowlegable guide and the lunch was suprisingly good too - if I had gone alone I would no doubt have seen most of the things I saw on the trip, but wouldn't have had any of the historical commentary. In fact if I had gone alone I would probably have been pancaked by the traffic (crazy drivers). The highlight of my trip was Villefranche - just loved this place the minute I set foot, so I'm going back in September for a week. To sum up I would not hesitate to recommend the Destiny cruise ship and cruising in general especially to people travelling alone, I met so many lovely people, I took two books to read and got one chapter read - that's the sign of a good holiday.
Top tip - relax in the Sky bar when leaving port in the evening - hang on for the sunset - magical!

My Wife and I booked this trip last year and were really looking forward to it. We sailed on the Thomson Destiny from the 15/6 to 21/6. The first couple of days were fine, but early hours of the 3rd day on board the ship my wife complained of feeling ill. The ships doctor visited our cabin and my wife was confined to the room. She had a very bad case of diarrhea and the doctor treated her for Gastroenteritis. At one point she was even connected up to a drip.
Unfortunately, this obviously spoilt our holiday because my wife was like this for the rest of the holiday and indeed until at least a week after returning home. Also the above experience also left us nearly £300 out of pocket, which we now have to claim back from the insurance.... we were'nt told at the time of taking the insurance out that we would have to pay up front for treatment....

The ship is spotless constantly being cleaned and looked after. The food is excellent and in plentiful supply - probably far too much to be honest. On two occasions the meat was a bit tough and dry. The staff are very helpful and seem happy all the time. Avoid reception if you want to know anything other than where the organised excursions are going. Their manner leaves a lot to be desired considering they are the face of the ship. Best excursion is Pompei and Sorrento. Avoid Taste of Sicily as the local delicacies are an acquired taste - probably better to have gone to Cefalu. Do other venues on Jewels of Med cruise yourself as much cheaper. Watch out for bag snatchers in Barcelona and only take what you need ashore. We heard of three cases in five minutes from our fellow passengers. Shows in Can Can lounge were great and easily match Londons West End quality.
Be careful what/who you talk about in your cabin as walls are paper thin. Overall a good experience and the plusses certainly well out-weigh any minuses.

just returned from a two week cruise and what a fab time we all had, we were surprised at the drinks list ,we were all inclusive and the drinks that we were entitled to were great there was something on there for every taste i tried all the cocktails on the list free of charge.the staff were all really pleasant especially michaelea in the clipper bar we called her the doubles girl every time you ordered a drink she asked do u want a double.the food was fab especially 24hour buffet whenever you feel peckish. try the hot chocolate in one of the bars its on the ai list and is just yummy.
the cabins are adequate 3 of our party shared an inside cabin and they managed fine just needed a rota for the shower.the hairdryer isnt much use you need to keep your finger on the button whilst using it the cord isnt quite long enough either you have to realy stretch it to be able to do your hair in front of the mirror.if you need to charge something up ie:shaver ask your cabin assistant there are sockets in the corridors which are more power than the ones in the room.took my small travel kettle but it took about 20 mins to boil.saw some young ladies using there own curling tongues in the coridors.some of the toilets near the bars and also up on deck had problems they keep getting blocked it was quicker to go back to your cabin and use your own as some nights you were queing for ages especialy after a show .if you are on early sitting as we were sometimes it would be better to catch the later show in the can can lounge especially if the show is followd by something else in there otherwise you wont get a seat .there was nothing that spoiled this holiday and would go on the destiny again thumbs up to all staff and crew you gave us a great memorable holiday,no seasickness either

We did the Jewels of the Med and the Mediterranean Renaissance cruises. This was our first cruise and for one of us our first ever flight. Everything from arriving at Luton airport went without a hitch. Transferring from plane to ship was very easy, Thomson make everything very clear for you, so first timers, no need to worry. The ship is fantastic, we were completely in awe of it from the moment we stepped on board. You are shown to your cabin and our cases arrived within 30 minutes. The cabin was not enormous, but we found it adequate, we had a double bed, plenty of wardrobe space and plenty of room in the bathroom for all toiletries (we had an outside cabin on Deck 4 which is the main deck). This ship is run like clockwork, the crew are very friendly, catering to your every need. You never need get up from your sunbed for a drink! Those looking after the ship work extremely hard, there is always work being done, painting, polishing, you name it!

Our cabin stewardess, Olena, was wonderful, we had surprises on several nights with animals made from the towels. At night your bedclothes are turned down and a chocolate placed on your pillow, a lovely touch, she also draws the curtains and puts the lights on, which makes your cabin very welcoming.

The shows are absolutely fantastic, from the costumes to the singing and dancing, all very professional and as has been said before, as good as you would see in any West End theatre. We were particularly impressed with Matt, whose voice is worthy of a mention, he is very talented.

The food is out of this world, you can eat all day if you choose to. Some people tend to pile their plates up and then leave half of it, I think they forget you can eat all day, there is no point in going mad, you never need go hungry! We chose to dine in the Lido for breakfast as enjoyed being outside watching the world go by. Lunchtimes we went to the Poolside Grill, because it was convenient for sunbathing and the pool. In the evening we went to Seven Seas, for waiter service which is absolutely wonderful. We had a table for two, not because we are anti-social but we felt more comfortable. We also opted for the early sitting at 6.45 which suited us very well, even if you went on an excusion as you can turn up a little later if you have to. The service is second to none, they are all very friendly and you are treated like royalty. The food choices are very varied, at times it is difficult to make up your mind, there are 6 courses so be prepared! Vegetarians are well catered for. The waiters entertain you some evenings and they are a happy, friendly lot. Thanks to Abdulah who was our section head waiter, always interested in what you had done for the day, what you were doing next day and gave you tips for the next day's port.

With regard to dress code, like so many people say, men - if you don't have a dinner suit or bow tie, don't worry, a lounge suit is fine. There are lots of variations on the formal night, from trousers and jacket to the full works, you can dress up as much as you like, although we found it nice to make an effort. There is one formal night a week (Captains Cocktails) held on a Friday, which is the day at sea, so plenty of time to get ready.

You receive the Cruise News publication every day and your dress code for the restaurant is suggested. This also tells you everything you need to know, from what is happening on board that day, details of the destinations, places you might want to visit, the times and details of the shows, game shows etc, interesting snippets of information.

We enjoyed the pool, there are in fact two, one for adults only and one for families and children. Sometimes there is no one in the adult pool and you can have it to yourself!

On a Thursday when some of the passengers disembark the ship gets very quiet and it is lovely to wander around. The daily excursions also mean that if you stay on board, there are not so many people about. We went on several excursions, some we felt were better value than others but to be honest we could not really fault them apart from we felt at a couple of places you didn't need all the free time they gave you but that would not be the case for everyone. If you are not brave enough to do things by yourself they are excellent because you have nothing to worry about. We found the guides very knowledgeable and informative, all the places we visited were truly amazing.

We were lucky to have All inclusive (AI). This means all your drinks are free. There are however exceptions, these are shown on the bar menus and you have to pay a small supplement instead of the full price. Although this was a free upgrade and we used it at every opportunity, it would not have been worth purchasing this as an extra as we would not have had enough drinks to make it worthwhile. It is lovely though to just order what you like and not worry about it. The hot chocolate is wonderful! Thank you to Sergiy and Yuri in the Oaklahoma Lounge, very friendly, soon got on first name terms which made us feel very at home.

To sum up, this ship is wonderful, we wanted to stay on it forever, except our stomachs would not have coped! We could not fault anything, everyone was so friendly. We would definitely cruise on the Destiny again, or try one of the other Thomson ships. We already have the new brochure and are busy planning where to go, although you could do the same destinations again and visit different places, as there is so much to see.

4th May 2006 Idyllic isles cruise.
First time on a cruise ship and I must say was not disappointed! This was the first week of the season and we had a brilliant time. We had the all-inclusive deal with drinks package upgrade and an outside cabin on deck 2. The cabins are small but as you’re only in there to change or sleep quite adequate (store cases in wardrobe). The cabin staff are a hard working team and make your cabin up on a morning and when you return after an evening out the beds are turned down and an obligatory chocolate on your pillow. The electrics on board are only 110 volts so don’t expect your high wattage hair dryers/straighteners etc to work well. Check any adaptors/chargers you take to see if they are 110 – 240 or they won’t work either. Was greeted at Palma by heavy rain so didn’t get off to a good start weather wise but once on board we were shown to our cabin by friendly staff and our luggage followed less than 10 minutes later. Time to change and explore the ship! The boarding/charge card is activated from the time you get on board so you can use it right away. Some drinks on the bar list (liqueurs, malt whiskey etc) have a surcharge (the ones marked in blue) so be aware of that. Wine on drinks package is free by the glass but you have to pay if you order by bottle? We found the waiter service very good and think longest wait was about 10 minutes but you’re not going anywhere so what’s the rush? We ate in Seven seas restaurant on first evening, which is waiter service and had a nice selection on the 6-course dinner menu. Then into Can Can lounge to check out the entertainment. First night was a review of what was on rest of week and was very professionally done. This team work so hard and some deserve to go on to better things. Shows the rest of week were of high quality and the comedian on Tuesday (George King) was hilarious. The first night crossing from Palma to Gibraltar was very rough (thought I was on Titanic) but arrived safe on a nice sunny morning. Second night we decided to try Lido self-service restaurant. This is open air and very nice if weather warm otherwise wrap up well. Once again excellent choice of food! You can eat 24hrs a day so make sure to buy some bigger clothes for when you return home. Loved waking up in a new country every morning. Didn’t do any of organised excursions as thought they seemed a little overpriced, but it’s easy to make your own arrangements. Ladies toilets did not impress my partner, as they had a tendency to keep breaking down and long waits. Having said that once reported they were quickly mended. The ship is kept clean and tidy throughout voyage, always someone cleaning or polishing. Through day plenty of sun beds for everyone but put your obligatory towel out early if you want a good spot. Pools little small and use seawater so not warm! On the last day we were not due to leave the ship until 17.00 even though we had to vacate cabin by 08.00. Courtesy cabins were available to change and freshen up and our boarding/charge cards were valid until we disembarked. So to sum up… We could not find anything wrong with Staff, Food, Service, Entertainment or Ship. A wonderful holiday and we will certainly do it again very soon.Dress code is casual but smart apart from formal captains night. No shorts or T shirts in Seven seas restuarant
