This was our 3rd time on this ship, it was fabulous every time. We had a cabin with a port hole small yet adequate, very clean towels and bedding changed regularly thanks to Nicole. I celebrated my birthday and was made a fuss of. Nicole the maid set my flowers and cards out in the cabin and then made 2 swans with the towels lovely. The ship was well maintained always being wash and painted. When I read the negative reports I cannot believe we have been on the same ship. We had chocolates on the pillows every day. The security was of an high standard, the food, what can I say it was beautiful on all areas of the ship. Our party arranged from 13yrs to 64yrs; and there was food to suit us all. I am a diabetic and I had such a good choice. Anyone who complains about the food must be hard to please. The staff we spoke to mostly was Ariel who was rather dishy and disappointed that he had moved to the Emerald when we went on our 2nd cruise on this ship. Then there was Thomas who was very friendly along with the rest of the waiters. Captain Lee spoke to us several times we found him friendly and easy to speak with. We found the entertainment good especially the murder mystery.
The chocolate and ice night was great the teenagers loved eating it. We had our evening meal in the restaurant every night and it was really friendly we sang songs and I had a dance with a waiter. I enjoyed every place we visited except Morocco even though we paid for a guide to go with us around the place. I felt vulnerable it was a terrible place if I had known I would have stayed on the ship. Gibraltar was a lovely place until a monkey jumped on my head ahhh.
Our daughter had her wedding vows blessed she has been on the Destiny 4 times and will not try another ship. We are all looking forward to our next trip on this lovely ship Destiny.

Just got back from a fabulous Thomson Destiny cruise and would recommend it anyone thinking of going on a cruise. The ship was spotless and cabins cleaned at least twice a day. The staff were very friendly and always greeted you with a warm smile. The food was great, in particular in the seven seas restaurant. I just regret not getting a photo of our wonderful waiters Bernard and John so if anyone has any could you PLEASE PLEASE post them in the gallery.
The entertainment was always excellent with something for everyone both day and night. The only downside was the first day at sea when many people, including myself, were very ill. This only happened one day though and usually doesn't happen so don't worry.
As regards dress code, there were 2 formal nights on this cruise and the rest of the time trousers and jeans was okay. If you prefer not to dress up you can go to the 24 hour Lido buffet.
If anyone has any questions please post them in the review section and I will answer them as best I can.
(Hope someone can post the photos up for me!!)

We did the Jewels of the Med cruise on the Destiny and found it difficult to fault in any way. We had calm sailing for most of the time, just a couple of nights when we could actually feel the ship moving and all that did was just rock us to sleep. Even the thunder storm we sailed through when arriving in Naples just added to the excitement. The ship was contstantly beind cleaned, vacuumed or painted and everytime we docked someone would be out on a trapeze or in a dinghy painting bits of the hull. Our cabin was kept clean and tidy by the wonderful Alina who seemed to work 24 hours a day and still keep smiling.

Our cabin was on deck 7 and was much bigger than we had expected. It was actually a suite with a completely separate bedroom, a sitting room and a bathroom with a full size bath. It was wonderful and really made the holiday special.

We mainly ate in the Lido Restaurant as we loved to eat whilst watching the sun set and the coast line of that day's port recede behind the boat. In both the Lido and the Seven Seas the food was great and the staff attentive and friendly. We didn't see many of the shows but what we did see were excellent, the entertainment staff are endlessly enthusiastic and energetic.

It has been mentioned here several times that the reception staff were not friendly or helpful regarding DIY excursions. I don't know if Thomson have picked up on this and done something about it or if we were just lucky, because we found the reception and destination services staff couldn't do enough for us! There was a talk in the Can Can lounge on the Friday afternoon showing the various ports of call and how they could be explored without going on the organised trips. Ferry and train timetables were available and the staff were incredibly helpful and chatty. The lovely El Mira deserves a special mention, especially as she kept our son company for a while in Barcelona while we visited the duty free shops!

We arrived too late and left too early to explore Palma but our other ports were Palermo, Naples, Ajaccio, Toulon and Barcelona. In Palermo we spent a couple of hours walking round the town. Nice architecture but apart from the Fountain of Shame, noting to get excited about. At Naples we took the trip to Pompeii which was incredible and one of the highlights of the whole holiday. Ajaccio was gorgeous - we took a trip to a tortoise sanctuary which was amazing, but would have been just as happy exploring the town. We arrived in Toulon on August 15th, Napoleon's birthday and a holiday in France, which meant that most of the shops were closed. This was compensated for when the French equivalent of the Red Arrows did a display over the town in the afternoon, some of it took place actually over the top of the Destiny! We did the road train trip around the town and then did a boat trip around the harbour. There was also a craft market in the dock building beside the ship which was great for souvenirs and presents. Finally, Barcelona. The ship docked a long way from the town but a shuttle bus ferried us to and fro. The open topped tour buses are really good, if you don't understand where you are going just ask the guide on board as they are very helpful.

Of course the main test of a hoiday is whether you would do it again. Would we? You bet!

Just posted a review, and can't believe that we forgot to mention Kidzone, onboard entertainment for the children. Rebecca adored going to Kidzone. She was, on occasions, picked up from the cabin for breakfast, she collected crew's autographs, had her face painted, and disappeared for hours whilst she was being entertained. Very, very impressive!!!

well here we go every thing you need to know about the cruise thomson destiny.FANTASTIC what a ship.there was four in our party.we stayed in a hotel for a week first. wish we hadnt just stayed on the cruise for two weeks.we arrived at palma port saw the ship and went what a ship.we went onboard and was greeted as we boarded the ship and showen to our outside cabin.dont listen to anything to what people tell you the cabins are not that small we had two single beds one pushed up during the day time in to wall and the other one had a cover on it to be used as a settee.there is plenty of cupboard space, three drawers, shelfs where your safetybox is.the bathroom is not big im a tall person and a bit of weight on me and i had plenty of room in the shower which was piping hot everyday.table and chair and a large mirror.plus for you ladys a hairdryer in the top drawer.plus if you need to use hair crippers or shavers go outside your cabin and look up beside your door you will find a two pin plug you can use that as well as the plug in your cabin is 110 volt to small for your travel plugs.you get all information about the ship and excurisons in your cabin so dont worry.you get a thing everynight called cruise news keep it save for that day it is your bible it tells what is happening everyday and that night on the ship and where you are going and what time you arrive and depart on the ship.when you retire to bed that night you can throw it in the bin you get another on for the next day.the main thing is what to wear on the ship.dont worry wear what you want.the captains night is a bit formal people do really dress up put as long as you wear trousers and a casual shirt that is fine i wore a shirt and tie and trousers no jacket it is up to you but dont worry people are wearing dickie bows and all that you dont have to.you dont even have to wear a tie.just remember you get a nice photo taken with the captain and you will be also on video camera for you to buy a dvd at the end of the cruise at 20 pounds you dont have to buy anything if you dont want to.we got the photos form the captains night and paid 28 pounds and they a fantatsic looking.the rest of the week in the restaurant as long as the men wear trousers you are fine you can wear a t shirt with them as for you ladys my wife wore knee length trousers and a t shirt wear what you want and if you want to wear shorts and a t shirt go on deck and eat in the lido cafe you get a great dinner up there in fact the food on ship is all night and loads of it and very tasty.the staff work so hard from the person that makes and turns down your bed and cleans your cabin,to the bar staff,to all the restaurant staff, the entertainment staff everyone works hard you see everything.the entertainment on the ship is fantastic make sure you go to all the shows.there is plenty to do if you dont leave the ship or you can relax and enjoy the sun and when you get thirsty the pool deck staff bring you what you want to drink you dont even leave the bed you are lying on.my advice to you dont take all the excursions through the ship as they are a bit on the stip side just go of the ship and plenty of tour buses or wee trains that goes round the town our walk.make sure you do one or two with the ship as they are well done.we went to nou camp football stadium and that was great.if you are all inclusive and drink you have a great selection and plenty to choice from all in all a fantastic cruise we had. there was only one problem we had.that was to get of the ship and go home we are only back one day and i am going down to thomsons and book for next year.my thanks go out th a few people who made are cruise that bit special that is maratas, rodger, galina and last but no means least thanks goes to thomson cruise you know how to look after your passengers.roll on next year.

Where do we start? We have just returned from what can only be described as the holiday of a life time on board the Thomson Destiny.

We sailed on the Jewels Of The Med cruise which had some outstanding destinations. This ship is magnificent. You can eat around the clock in a variety of resturants. The seven seas has a five course extrvaganza every night and we were pampered by our waiter Ivan and our head waiter James. Our son (12) was especially pampered and was offered absouloutly anything if he did not like the evenings menu. Every night James gave us the next nights menu just to wet your appittite. We had 2 formal nights (one formal and one semi formal) where my son and myself wore the kilt. There is no real need for dinner jacket and tie however most of the passengers scrubbed up pretty good. The fist formal night was the captains cocktail party which was rather special.

The entertainment in the can can was just as the brochure says. It was fantastic. An hours show just after dinner every night with a fantastic array of dancers, singers, comedians etc etc. The cruise director and her assistant were a geat double act.

You dont have to laeve the ship as there is always something going on to entertain you and you get all of the details in a daily cruise news which is delivered to your cabin every day.

The staff on this ship can do no wrong. Our cabin was looked after by Annya who was always smiling. At night the beds are turned down and there was a wee chocky on the pillow. Sometimes we had eaten so much that the chocky was left?

The bar staff in the countless bars are so attentitive. They always stop for a chat and you never wait for drinks. We had the all inclusive dinks package which we think worked out ok for us.

Probably the only minor grumble was the size of the cabin (we were on deck three) it was a bit cramped for the three of us however its only for sleeping in really.

We only did one organised trip and that was to Pompeii. The trips are quite expensive however everyone that we spoke to who went on one enjoyed their day.Go to Pompeii in the morning it is much cooler.

We are not that good at being the independant traveller however we found that there was no real need to wander to far. At Palermo you dock right at the city and a ten minute walk takes you to the open top bus which was a great way to see around. There are also countless taxis at the posrt offering you their services. At Ajaccio the ship bearths just about in the town centre and you are in the shops in seconds. Toulon in similar to Ajaccio and there is a little tractor train that takes you on a nice wee trip around the place.

Our last port of call was barcalona and here you bearth in the very industrial dock area howewer there is a port bus which for 2.5 euro return will take you to the bottom of Ras Ramblas which is the best place to start your day abnd were yiou can get a cracking open top tour. As with Palermo there are plenty of taxis too.

The second week of our holiday we had on the baech in Sa Coma Majorca. This is a great way to unwind from the splendour of the cruise. A lot of people said that we should have stayed and then cruised the second week however we can only say that Cruise then stay worked for us.

We cannot fault the Destiny, her capatin, her crew, her food or her entertainment in any way and we cant wait to book again.

Once you have done this tpye of holiday you will never spend two weeks on the beach ever again.

our first cruise and can recommend it to anybody! we have only been back a few days and are eagerly scanning cruise brochures for next year. Destiny was very clean, although certain areas did look a little tired. the steamer sun loungers on the promenade deck had seen better days, and the cushions to place on the sunloungers were hard to locate. Pool sunloungers were quickly snapped up too.
tha cabin was on the small side, but was comfortable enough. the engine noise was audible especially when the ship was coming into port early morning.
the food aboard was excellent, especially the seven seas restaurant. we were located in a little annexe called the gallileo which was more intimate than the main restaurant. the waiters were friendly and attentive, nothing was too much trouble for them.
the rest of the staff on board were helpful and friendly.
the entertainment was good, and seemed to cater for most tastes. we discoverd Bill the pianist in Blakes Bar two nights before we left the ship. He's a very talented musician!
All in all a wonderful holiday, you could be a little picky with certain aspects of it, but value for money was excellent and we have been bitten by the 'cruise bug'

This was our 6th cruise, and we had an absolutely wonderful time. The ship was very clean, and you often saw crew members busily cleaning bannisters, mirrors etc at any time of the day.

The food in the Seven Seas restaurant was of a constantly high standard, with enough choice to suit all tastes. We ate in the Seven Seas each night and were fortunate to sit with really nice people. Actually, most people who cruise are genuinely nice.

Our room was always well maintained. Yes, we know the cabins are smallish, but you don't spend much time in them. My 7 year daughter refuses to sleep on the top bunk, so her 46 year old father (me!!) has to sleep there instead, but so what...!!

The onboard entertainment is amazing. I've felt that about all the cruises we've been on, but I think the quality on Destiny was even higher than past cruises. Sue Denning is a highly talented, hardworking and personable Cruise Director, Gavin, her assistant, who we've encountered before is extremely amusing (and knows it) and Lauren Wood, Showteam Leader, should be on the London stage. She certainly sings as well as most West End leads.

We would certainly sail again on Destiny. The sooner, the better.

Having arrived back last Thursday at least two stone heavier (at least it feels like that) I thought I'd put my views forward.
Accommodation:
For four of us the cabin was a bit small but we expected that so it wasn’t an issue for us.
Just a tip take holdall type luggage that flattens when empty and not the rigid type cases as you wont be able to store them under the beds, floor space is of a premium.
Our cabin steward Adelina was exceptional tidying our cabin twice a day and leaving chocolates on the pillows every night.
On the visit to Gibraltar she made a towel monkey and hung it from the ceiling as you entered the cabin, damn near gave me a heart attack but a nice touch all the same.
Food:Exceptional, our waiter Ivan and his oppo who he called big boy were brilliant, nothing too much trouble. Our wine waiter Caleb kept our glasses topped up at every opportunity and their boss Ariel was also very attentive and pleasent.
The food was outstanding with enough choice to keep most people happy.
The best part for me were the songs the waiters etc gave after dinner, very good fun and entertaining.
My little boy ate from the kids menu and was well satisfied.
The food in the Lido and Pool Buffet was fresh plain good quality with plenty of choice. The barbeque on deck which happened once a week, although the people on trips missed it, was outstanding.
Kidszone:Was a Godsend, much as we love our boy it was nice to have other people entertain him. The Kiszone reps Lianne,Skye, and Lorna were brillaint.Michael loved it and so did we.
On a couple of days they picked him up from the cabin at 0800 for the breakfast club which lasted until 1100hrs.Then again in kidszone 1600-1800 and again 2000 until 2200hrs giving us a break of 7 hours where we could relax.
Most days were at least four hours kidszone per day.
Our daughter (16) entertained herself with her new found friends and had a great time although she didn’t appreciate having to hit the sack the same time as us.
We didn’t want her bothering any of the other passengers with her mates.
The Teen rep seemed a nice bloke with plenty of control over the Teens on board.
Entertainment: Was top drawer with the singers and dancers very talented. All the shows we saw were brilliant. The only disappointing thing was the bad mannered mass evacuation to the Okalahoma lounge before the applause had died down and the Cruise Director Sue had finished speaking.
Some people are just plain rude.
Alcohol: Draft beers were Boddingtons or Stella.I like a nice Gin and Tonic but another tip, ask for the Gin/spirit you want. I like Bombay Sapphire which was part of the all inclusive option which came as a surprise.
Check the menu to see which brands are included in the all inclusive option.
You really have to try as a nightcap the Baileys Irish Cream Whisky Coffee which was gorgeous and came at an exorbitant cost (NOT) of .85p
Tipping: We know tips are included but we like to show our appreciation of good service which was gratefully received as I don’t think the wages on board were all that much.
All in all a fantastic holiday.
Nicest place visited Propriano,Corsica.
Best excursion(although we didn’t do many having been to some of the places before) was the catamaran trip in Mahon,Menorca was a really nice day out.
Funniest thing: Gibraltar there were ten of us in a mini-bus up the Rock to see the Apes. One of the girls with us, our friends daughter, would'nt get out of the bus as she was scared of the monkeys. She sat in the middle seat in the front with her seat belt on.
Anyway she said she saw the door opening but there was no one there.
Suddenly a great big ape jumped in next to her and shut the door behind himself proceeding to search the glove box/bus for food.
The ape was screaming and doing the wall of death around the bus,Frances was screaming frantically trying to get her seat belt off.
She broke two nails,(a disaster for a 16 year old) and grazed her knee in her haste to parachute roll out of the bus.
Her dad and me couldn’t stand up for laughing, cruel I know but you have to know Frances and had to be there.
As the driver said she wont forget her trip to Gibraltar
Anyway I hope this has been of help to people that haven’t cruised before and if you're off on the Thomson Destiny have a great time we're just sad its all over for us for another year.
