We have just enjoyed a fabulous cruise on the destiny around the canaries. Embarkation was very quick and smooth which was appreciated after a technical fault with the plane meant we were on the tarmac at Manchester for two hours before take off! We always found the ship absolutely spotless and there always seemed to be somebody cleaning. Thanks to Galina who was our cabin stewardess for the first couple of days ( she showed me the best way to plug my straighteners in without the plug falling out of the socket...wonderful advice of which I will be eternally grateful!) The food was excellent at all times especially in the Seven Seas restaurant, many thanks to Reuban who was our waiter and certainly made sure our wine glasses were full! We were on the second sitting and the waiters always used to sing and dance at the end of the meal during the nightly "showtime"! very funny, make sure you take a camera! We were initially apprehensive about the "fixed" seating but met some very nice and funny people who were good company during the week. We had one person on the table who made a point about complaining about the food/cabin size/excursions/waiters/AI package etc etc and we all began to wonder why he booked this particular holiday but it gave everyone at the table something to talk and have a good laugh about (Professional moaner springs to mind!!!). Weather was superb for most of the week, only bad day was Madeira, rainy but still warm. Only excursion we did was to Puerto Del Carmen in Lanzarote which was ok (excellent for cheap perfume from Charlie's) but did hear mixed reveiws about excursions in Morocco - many didn't enjoy them and it was a very hot day.
One night we thoroughly enjoyed was the Captain's cocktail party. Everyone looked really smart and made the effort to dress up for the occasion. We thought the entertainment was excellent and thanks to Sue and the team. If you get the chance go to Sue's one woman show it is very funny.
We also took advantage of the AI drinks package which was excellent value for money. Just drinking soft drinks during the day can be expensive e.g can of coke/fanta is £1.00. All I can say is it is worth every penny and we thoroughly enjoyed it. All the staff were excellent and we met some lovely people. Looking forward to the next cruise on the Destiny!!!

Upgraded outside cabin a dissapointment, not like the picture. Later found that late bookings were given far better cabins.
Crew made up for the early dissapointment. Rooms immaculate, special thanks to Carmen who part way through the cruise was given extra cabins to clean.
Food could not be faulted. Hand gel at points of entry to ship and food ares, some passengers choose to ignore.
Found the fixed dining to be negative as others on the table failed to appear and we were tucked away on an extremety. The Spirit dining arrangements would suit better and create more of a friendly atmosphere.
Heard a number of petty complaints but we were not cruising at the top end of the market and we were 100% satisifed with value for money.
Have sailed previously on Thomson Spirit, 3 times, it would be a hard decission but in our opinion the Spirit would win, possibly as it is a smaller ship.
Daughter & her boyfriend, 19 & 20years enjoyed the cruise, much to our surprise.

We booked our holiday 4 days before sailing and got a deluxe suite deck 7 for 1,500 for both (750 each) that included holiday insurance, car prking at airport but no drinks package as we dont drink that much and for £140 ita a bit pricy. The cabin Num 7000 was superb the lounge was big enough to hold a party, the bathroom was nearly as big as a deck 3 inside cabin, the walk in wardrobe was massive and the bedroom with queen size bed was excellent. Large windows and a port side aspect made this a lovelly cabin. The maids could not be more helpful with chocolates on the pillow each night and various animals made from the bath towels. The food in the seven seas was good but not always piping hot. The waiters very good and helpful. The ship was clean and well run by the crew. We had breakfast on the lido deck with fresh air and some views. The entertainment was more akin to butlins but overall not bad.
Overall we had a great time with good weather most of the time. This was our first cruise and we will do it again.

This was our first cruise and we thoroughly enjoyed it. We thought the organisation of the flights, transfers, embarkation, information on board (Cruise News), and dis-embarkation was excellent. We had a deluxe cabin on deck 7 which we thought was well worth the extra money - especially to have a bath and double bed.

We thought the ship was very clean. There was always some sort of maintenance going on, painting, washing, varnishing etc. The only thing that really affected us however was when they washed our window with a power spray at 3.00am. It just so happened we were still sort of awake at that time (been dancing the night away in the disco etc), so perhaps it wouldn't have disturbed us if we were actually asleep.

The food in the Seven Seas (waiter service) was excellent every single night, and the portions were of a manageable size, not heaped on plates. The waiters were very friendly and efficient, so we never had to wait for anything. Also on several evenings, they did a little "impromptu" entertainment where the waiters sang and danced. It was very funny, but obviously a regular thing. We always dressed up for dinner and at no time felt overdressed. A lot of people did, but just as many didn’t, it’s a matter of personal preference.

The food in the Lido cafe was also good, particularly breakfast. I can't comment on evening meals as we always ate in the restaurant. I frequently followed a previous posters advice and got tea from the Lido cafe to take back to the room in the afternoon/evening. However, we found the food in the Pool grill wasn't always up to scratch. They offered the same food several days in a row. And the crepes they had on special one day were quite awful. We didn’t bother to queue up for the Buffet Magnifique as the queue was ridiculous and being on late sitting dinner, felt as if we had just eaten and it was one of the days the sea was a bit rough.

Most of the staff were very pleasant and helpful, particularly the cabin stewards and waiters. The bar staff were keen and efficient and always on hand to take a drinks order and however one or two were a bit miserable, and even surly on occasion.

We thought the evening entertainment was excellent. The entertainment team worked extremely hard and the shows were well rehearsed and very professional. There were also various quizzes and game shows during the day and evening and these were quite amusing but not really our thing. The Captains Dinner was a bit of a palaver, queued up for ages to shake his hand and get a photo which turned out to be awful anyway.

I think the main thing that spoiled our holiday was the weather which was only really sunny on the first and last day, but not much you can do about that.

We went on a couple of excursions (Taste of Madeira and Souk and Fantasia-Agadir), but we didn't really enjoy them that much or feel they were worth the money.

There were a couple of photographers taking photos mainly at meal times and on the Captains Dinner night. We thought all the photos were very expensive. When we hesitated about one in particular, the man in the photo shop said “well, it’s your memories!” which we thought was quite rude.

We thought the drinks were reasonably priced which was good, but although I had plenty of choice (Smirnoff Ice, Woodpecker, and a nice Merlot red wine, there were very few beers/lagers, namely Stella, Budweiser or Boddingtons. We didn't take the all-inclusive drinks package and found this to be a good decision as we only spent half the amount it would have cost.

All-in all we had a great time and would definitely go again, although at a different time and on a different itinerary.

Having been on seven other cruises we would rate this cruise as good as, if not better than others we have been on. No complaints about ship cleanliness.Food was always good with plenty of choice where ever you chose to eat on the ship.Ship staff provided excellent service from the cabin steward to restaurant and bar staff. The entertainment was the best we have ever had on a ship and it also appealed to a wider audience.Thomson yet again provided plenty of information on each port to assist you to do things independantly to suit yourself. We took the all inclusive drinks package and were pleased with the choice of drinks available up to 2.00am.Would we sail on this ship again? NOT HALF !!!!!!!

This was our first cruise and a bit aprehensive, the cruise lived up to our expectations ,the staff ,the food ,the cabins were excellent.I had read the reviews before departing ,some good ,some bad,but I would say to anyone thinking about a cruise on Destiny go for it.The itenary was superb only one day at sea ,the captains night although a bit cheesy not to be missed,a lot of penguins walking around and ladies looking a million dollars. We will certainly be booking another cruise with thomson.I didn`t want to disembark.

well i went on thomson destiny around the canaries and it was fabulous. The only let down was the size of the cabin and the storage as i went with my boyfriend and my daughter and her friend and they had to keep thier clothes in a suitcase but apart from that it was great we didnt want to be stuck in the cabin anyway as their was so much to do.The entertainment was amazing it was like they were straight from the west end and matt and jemma were great singers and i will be going on another cruise with thomson this year x

20 october colourfull coasts. We celebrated our silver wedding on board. As previous reports yes we were "inconvenienced" by the toilet system but it did not put us off enjoying ourselves as it did to some. These thing do happen from time to time and we also heard that t shirts, nappys had been put down the toilets which all added to the problem.
We were also delayed for 7 hours on departure to the ship, but the captain held the ship up for us which he need not have done.
The food, service and entertainment was excellent and all staff very polite.
The midnight buffet is superb , ice sculptures and all food imaginable .
We would definately cruise again despite the problems this time.

This was our first cruise and it was to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. We were very lucky in that we had no problems with the toilet in our cabin (except when the whole ship was affected) or with the hot water for the shower. We had an outside cabin on deck 3 and although it was compact, there was good storage and it certainly filled our needs.

What excalated the problems with the sanitary system was the way in which the passengers were treated. Anywhere can have its problems but the manner in which it is dealt with can help considerably. Yes, we did hear that the problems were due to people putting bulky items down the toilet, but we also heard that there was a problem with the system, which the captain was well aware of, before we even left Tenerife. Some say we should not even have set sail.

All things considered, we had an excellent time, our waiters in the seven seas restaurant were not the most attentive, although the wine waitress certainly was and the food was superb. The only place we thought the food was not up the expected standard was in the Lido restaurant after breakfast. The entertainment was good, although Sue, the cruise director should have taken more of a back seat and let the youngsters get on with what they were good at.

We will definitely take another cruise, although possibly not on the Destiny unless they install a new sanitary system as we would not want to risk having the problems other people had.
