Havent stayed there but looks pretty ok. Its just a short downhill walk to village of Bellapais, there are a few good eating places, but give the Tree of Idleness a miss on Saturday nights! Its belly dancer night! The weather can be really nice during day but really cold at nights, also Bellapais might be colder as its higher up and if you go down to Girne harbour it can be 10 degrees warmer.we love it at that time of year as its very quiet, have a car and travel about, the Karpas is great at all times if you like wide open sparse scenery.the castles are worth a visit ,Kantara,Buffavento ,and St Hilarion.Salamis is a lot of walking but a great place to see.The best guide book is Northern Cyprus, landmark visitors guide. As you might have guessed I love the place and visit about 4-5 times every year, especially for New Year. The Courtyard is good for food also Padisah in Girne.
Thanks for the information. Do you think at that time of year we would be better staying in Kyrenia rather than somewhere more remote?
Hi, its not remote at all if you have a car, at that time of year its a 3/4- 1 hour walk to Kyrenia (Girne) down hill all the way but of course it takes longer to walk back, but is nice , not in the summer its too hot for the walk.It takes 5 mins to walk down to Bellapais village, from the Almond Holiday village,if i am thinking of the right place(make sure that it is in Bellapais & I'm not mixing it with somewhere else) as its at the back of the village ,with nice views.Lots of walking around the village and paths all up the hills at back. If you are interested in walking, ask for Calo at the Bellapais Gardens Hotel, he does walks, and also Maureen & Tony Hutchinson who are known by many.I would always choose Bellapais over Kyrenia as its a busy harbour town ,but nice if you want to be in the centre of things.Hope this helps.
sorry just looked and Almond is not the one I thought ,I was thinking of Ambelia holiday village, the Almond is a lot further out, very sorry.
It says on the site that the Almond Holiday Village is located near Alsancak which is based on the slopes of the Kyrenia Mountains and is only 8 miles west of the glorious historical town of Kyrenia. Does this sound like the place you're thinking of.
its a lovely little holiday village with beautiful lawns abundant flowers and trees..its like being on holday in the middle of kew gardens.its also excellent value for money..see the holdays uncovered site for reviews
all of which are positive..the only down side to northern cyprus
is the litter which is all pervading.you cant escape it unless you go to the private beaches.its worth paying because they keep them spotless
but the public beaches are a disgrace.junk everywhere including used nappies.i just dont understand how people can just chuck this stuff
down and walk away.you can have a good cheap holiday in n cyprus but you have to try and ignore the rubbish but it can get to you in the end
which is a shame because the people are open and friendly...cheers..rod
Sound it bit like one of the beaches round here then
Sad but true
I agree, the rubbish is always where tides wash in, even on almost undiscovered beaches. It definitely needs clearing.
Any recommendations for a 4*+ hotel with it's own beach. Never been North before, are there direct flights yet?
I have merged your post with an existing sticky topic on Northern Cyprus. You may find some useful information in earlier posts.
I looking for a bit of advise please re Northern Cyprus.
1. Looking for B&B hotel thats near Kyrenia town centre, we like to have a choice of places to eat/drink not the same place each night. (I have looked at various TA but lots of hotels seem to be out of town centre)
2. Are we better flying to Larnaca and getting taxi (if so approx how much) or fly to turkey and then to northern cyprus. Im not kean on flying so the less take off's and landing and time on tarmac is a bonus for me
3. If we get taxi are we ok re the boarder etc
Thanks in advance for any information
Jules
Merged with existing Northern Cyprus topic.
