Asda travel do Kingfisher airlines and had some good deals they can be booked online before going, Jet Airways and indian airlines can all be booked online. Kingfisher is my favorite they have proper knives and forks and the food for such a short journey is lovely.
IC i have pm you.
A train journey is a must for the experience - we travelled to lots of places on the train, they were very cheap and there are coaches for women only. It does seem chaotic but it's not.
http://www.mumbaimagic.com is a good tourist website. Don't miss Chor Bazaar (also called Thieves Market) the Dhobi Gats and Ghandi Museum - Mani Bhavean - Laburnham Road is a must. To get there go to Church Gate railway station and get a ticket to Grant Road (4rps) and walk to it or get a cab. http://www.sacred-destinations.com and click on the Asia tab and there is info on lots of things in Mumbai.
We love it and went twice earlier this year and are going up on the train again from Goa in October.

we have been trying to book another hotel but they are just are not interested until 3 months before- but then you haven't long to go. I had to phone my CC before I made the booking to alert them as we had problems the first time we tried to book.
I'll be interested to see what you think of the Residency as it was another one we were looking at.
yes Fiona that seems to be right ..we had some fun today with our CC they locked us out or something but its all sorted now ..well apart from the hotel hubby is just saying we want to book the hotel from the 24th nov so you would think it would be ok to book that now ........
yes - you should get it booked. Have a look around. The one I am looking at (Ascot) varies in price from just under £50 to £105 :yikes. I could get it now I paid £105 but I can get the 4 star I was at the last time for less than that.
we have just looked on T/A and Expedia can get us the room and the date we want but its an ex £17 per night don't know what to do Fiona ..if we do book it through the hotel itself it has 10% for this and 10% for that so in a way it would be 20% on top of the price of the room anyway ....
I wouldn't worry too much about an extra £17. A great benefit though of booking through the hotel is that you can decide its not for you and back out after one night as you don't pay till you leave. But thereagain finding a nice hotel at a price below £100 a night is not easy in Mumbai.
Hi IC glad you have sorted it out.

Lassi im have a blonde day silly me
This is basically what you will experience (as I did on my first trip): You tell the pre-paid guys where you want to go, they give you a ticket and tell you not to give it to the driver until you have reached your destination. He will instantly take it from you and lead you to a cab. You will be tired and weary and confused as you desperately try to keep up with the driver through crowds of people. All the time paranoid about keeping a firm grasp on your bags. Then, just as you get lost, the crowd will part, your taxi driver will appear and about ten people with smiling faces will escort you to the cab. Fifteen people will help load the bags and wave you goodbye. As you drive off you will be relieved but feel a bit guilty about the negative thoughts.
You will have to let me know if your first experience of Mumbai airport was the same as mine!
As far as I can tell taxis are about confidence. You will soon figure out the going rates. Flag em' down and ask how much. If you don't like the price, just say so. They know if they are trying it on - will grin and give you a more realistic price.
Tedster do you mean the taxi man will take the ticket of you at the airport ...and is it ok to give it to him there rather than when you get to your hotel .....also can you remember how much it was to your hotel so I have a rough idea ... colleen
The first time I went we somehow gave our driver the ticket straight away. It seemed easier than trying to tell him where we wanted to go as he didn't speak much English. We never had a problem.
I'm pretty sure it was about 400R / £5. I remember thinking that was quite a lot (I was expecting everything to be cheap). But for the distance involved it was very reasonable. We stayed in the Churchgate area which I would think is prob about the same from airport as Coloba - maybe slightly closer.
Tuk-tuks are much cheaper - but you wouldn't want to do that journey in one.
Thank you Tedster have you any othere little tips or hints please .....colleen
