Hi Alain,
You dont know our grandkids even we avoid a day coped up in the car with them
They are water babies down to the beach early morning and still there when everyone has gone home
It is the Sotira near Ayia Napa.Speaking of helping your self to drinks, last night the owner of our favourite taverna phoned us, he told us he is shutting in July when we are over, I told him we would be heartbroken if he was not open, he said dont worry I will leave you the key just go in and help yourselves to drinks, I hope he is kidding about shutting in July its our favourite place.
I still think Cyprus is the best I have won a holiday for 2 to Teneriffe but i am not going as i dont want to waste my leave. Cant think why I ever entered the damm thing
There used to be a beautiful eating place just outside Sotira called the Village Tavern. It was 1979 when I first went there but a couple of years ago we couldn't find it and the locals said they knew nothing of it. I wonder if the place you are talking about is the one we have been to. Right in the middle of the town ? There are also some quite good eateries at Ayios Nicolaos, where the Garrison is. And, if the refugee village is still there, just on outskirts of Ay Nik, well....that was about the best Meze I ever had in Cyprus.
Not only can this be done for less than your figure but done easily, if you have been coming over so often then surly you are the wiser for this, as posted only last week three of us had a good taverna meal with booze for 30 odd euros for three of us, if tourist's cant be bothered looking a little deeper then as in all tourist's destinations you will pay that cost's...
I repeat since the arrival of the new currency (€) we have seen little in the way of price increasing generally.
If you are coming over to the Paphos area this season then take a look at where the locals eat or don't as the case maybe...hundreds to chose from here..

As Jim suggests, you won't find many of these in the tourist areas, but if you are going to the East of the island...
are in the ''tourist areas'' personally I prefer the quieter village locations and there tavernas that serve the local population, and to be truthful it is only a few miles usually from those tourist's traps that can at times rip you off...the very reason that I set up that section on CL...Lets hope at least some make the effort to find them..
cheers..
I am very good friends with Steve who runs the EOB site, the reason for my link is maybe to help those find a good eating place when in the Pafos area, many of those resturants and tavernas cheers..
I posted the link to CyprusEastern because nearly all of our favourite restaurants are outside of the tourist areas. This is something that we have learnt over the years. There was even a time when we would actively avoid the tavernas frequented by the locals, thinking that we might not be welcome "on their turf" so to speak. How WRONG we were, and wished we had learnt earlier...
Yes and of course my point also..cheers
Pubdog, spill the beans on some decent tavernas outside the tourist "traps" on the eastern side of the island mainly round the Pernera/Paralimni area. I take on board what you are saying JimBox and as I am on an extremely tight budget this year will have to get off my backside and seek out cheaper eateries although by the time I've paid for car hire I'm not sure how it is going to work out. I'm on a mission now to see just how cheaply I can do it as opposed to just splashing the cash in the nearest restaurant!! As Pubdog says though sometimes I too have felt a little hesitent going into out of town tavernas for fear of being seen to be muscling in on the local's territory so to speak.
If you guys see some of the earlier posts you will see that "muscling in" doesn't apply. All you have to do is see a place and take a chance. Even if they don't speak your language (ask them in theirs - Milate Anglika), if they want your business they will find someone who can. If the patter dies, then you'll have your answer but they are lovely peeps in the villages. It's certainly more interesting than sitting down the tourist strip.
or point to the picture on the menu and say thelo afto [i would like this] or then-thelo afto [i dont like this] drinks can be more challenging
If you were typing for half an hour I'd guess you way passed the total amount the normal text post will send !
always adviseable on large or difficult to contruct posts to hit "CTRL A" then "CTRL C" prior to posting. That way if something goes a miss you have at least copied it to the clipboard and can repost it (possibly in 2 posts if its a massive post)
