I have just noticed this thread about postal applications, can anyone confirm that the visa surgeries are still running, hope so although if they are it looks like the queues will be longer then ever
Thanks

but they stopped it because..the man they used to take the passports up to the High Commission was 'very old'...and 'couldn't be trusted with the passports'
sorry but
I KNOW! I couldn't believe he was telling me that!!! Then in the next breath telling me to send the passports via Special Delivery so that they would 'be safe'

Surgeries are stil running dates/veues here
Requirements to be met by the applicants for visa during these surgeries are as under :
1. An extra processing fee of £ 10/- per visa will be charged;
2. Only Postal Orders or Bank drafts will be accepted as visa fee;
3. Cash or personal cheques ( with or without guarantee card) will not repeat not be accepted.; and
4. Visa surgery timings will be from 0930 to 1300 hrs and 1400 to 1600 hrs.
A bit confused here- does this mean that I have to post to Edinburgh or Birmingham only for visa. Thanks
It looks that way at the moment OAP...but as others have said....allow PLENTY of time as there is usually a delay normally without all the London Visa applications being sent there. ... and as someone else said...HOW LONG..before they stop accepting postal applications..and we'll all have to either visit in person...or pay the extra £20 or £25 via a travel agent! I feel the visa is expensive enough as it is..without the add expense of an agent!
Thanks Pam, will start the ball rolling for November
I've read somewhere that Edinburgh will only deal with applications for people with Scottish addresses so you'd better check before you send off.
I agree with Pam about the cost, especially if you're only having a single 2 week holiday over the 6 month period.
Why can't they just charge a fee on entry like a lot of other countries do?

To be honest, I didn't have a bad time queing in London. I got there at 7.15am, waited until 8.30 for the dorrs to open, we walked out with our visas at 9.30. I know that sounds like alot of waiting, but it didn't feel that bad at the time. Although I did get the shock of my life watching how crazy people became once the doors opened!!!!!
So now I will post to Birmingham this week as I've 7 weeks before I go.
Can someone help and give me the address for Birmingham please.
Ive found it :-

i]What are the requirements for a postal application?
Kindly ensure that all columns of the application are filled in, required documents, photographs and the correct fee in postal orders or banker?s draft are enclosed. When applying by post an additional handling fee of ?1/-should also be sent. Applicants should also enclose a self-addressed special delivery envelope for the passports to be posted back.[/i]
Does anyone know if there is still a handling fee for postal applications. as stated above. This appears to be getting more and more difficult to get a visa. I live in South Wales so really I have no chance of getting to a visa surgery.
Are they trying to put us off visiting???
Gill
Yes....you have to pay the £1 for postal applications. Trying to fill the form out correctly is like doing an exam - you have to read ALL the small print!
Last year i was told £1 fee had finished,i only sent £30 fee and never had problem,so did a few friends of mine and they had no problem.
We only sent £30 fee too and can't see anything on form about extra £1
It says so....just here......
You will find that is a old application form,last year and this years dont have it on.i have been going to goa for over ten years ,and i know you have to read small print
Check for yourself... http://www.hcilondon.org/visadown.htm download the PDF or the Word version.
Its on Page 2.
http://www.hcilondon.net does not have it on,nor did it last year,i think we need someone on this site to clear this confusion up.
you are right the form you are looking at does have it on,but the form i am downloading from
