One tip I would give is take an old buggy/pushchair with you as they get one hell of a battering in the hold of the plane.

Otherwise, I can't see why you would need to take much stuff with you. Pampers etc are available and are not any more expensive than the UK ( or they weren't a couple of years ago!) and as for food, why bother? Babies don't tend to eat as much when they're hot. I recall I never took specialist food with me for my children. They used to survive on yogurt (fresh. cheap and yummy in Greece) laced with honey or mushed up fresh fruit, cheese, ice cream (!), boiled rice (always available at Greek restaurants) and bananas. When they were in the mood for eating I used to give them a little of whatever was on my plate. The Greeks are always happy to oblige with a small bowl.

Take lots of plastic feeding spoons though!

Hiya

We took our son to Pefkos in May this year and he had just turned 1 and he coped really well.

I carried far too many nappies, but did run, but they are widley available from the local supermarkets. I think their own brands cost me around 11 euros.

If your little one eats everything and anthing like my boy Pefkos has a wide variety of foods. There is even a take away at the end of the strip which does smiley faces!!!

As my boy likes porridge I took single packets with me, very light to carry and I just took a few tins of spag and beans.

The greeks do love the babies and Ellis was always getting icecream and lolly pops.

We found May was just the right temperature for him - even a little too warm at times. At night I just put him in a babygro to sleep in.

I am sure you will have a great time and don't forget to visit Pefkos By Night they are a great bunch of lads.

Thanks for your tips, Daniel eats most things, just hope we can keep him occupied on the flight.

Hi,

We took our son to Rhodes in July when he was just 6 months old and are taking him back next week. With no luggage allowance we really struggled to pack for him but, as it turned out we took a lot more than we needed for him and hopefully this time will be a bit easier. Some tips:-

1. Get him a new toy for the flight (or hide one of his favourites now and get out for the flight).

2. Keep him awake at the airport (but don't let him get over tired) - more chance of him sleeping on the flight!

3. Only take enough nappies for the first 24-48 hours. They are readily available in the supermarkets though you may struggle to find familiar brands.

4. Ditto food - take something for the flight and say the first day or so but as well as branded baby food there will always be plenty of fruit, yoguart, fresh veg, etc.. available. (Watch the salt though as Greeks do tend to use a lot of it in cooking.)

5. Take a decent pushchair! We have two - one is a Mamas and Papas 03 (quite large) the other is a more portable Mamas and Papas Pulse. We were going to take the Pulse but at the last minute decided on the 3 wheeler. How glad we were!! The Pulse would have shaken itself and the baby to pieces within the first couple of days walking around Rhodes Town.

The Greeks adhore babies and will bend over backwards to help you.

Enjoy,

Dave.

We took a nearly new pushchair and when we got it of the belt the wheel was broken, this has happened twice, but I should add we go away alot, this was our grandchildren's each time, we went and bought another, which was not easy to find, then found we could have rented one. The second time was on the way home from another country. So would now always take an older one, one was a mama's and papa's which was robust and only two weeks old.
Also we bought one of the tents that keep the harmful rays of the babies from Mothercare, again that was very useful both on the beach and around the pool as one of the babies was only 7 wks old.
The great thing is that as other people have said they love children and make a fuss of them and try to be helpful if you need anything.
We had taken nappies and some cartons of milk, again no need as you can by the same there.
