Hi, Mel - we are staying in Bitez for the whole of September! :D 'Sir' really wasn't ready to come home last year (first time I have ever known him not say "will be glad to sleep in my own bed again" after about 10 days) so we thought we would give it a try and see how it goes.

Hope Charlie enjoys Australia and that you get chance to go back to Bitez.

Please give my regards to your mum and dad.

Love
Pat

Hi,
Im sur I have read this before but cant recall it. How far is Gumbet?Bodrum from Bitez? and when are the markets in these places?
Have got Turgetries as saturday. Also how often do the dolmus run to Gumbet/Bodrum?
Thanks

Hi Kirstie,

You will be able to catch the dolmus outside the Kassandra. They run about every 10mins. to Bodrum, then you have to get one to Gumbet. Or.......if you walk up the hill from the Kassandra you can get the dolmus direct into Gumbet without having to change at Bodrum.
I don't know about the markets as they don't interest me very much. Well.......Mike doesn't like them.
Not too long before you go, is it?
LOL Marn.

Hi,

Gumbet doesn't really have a market to speak of - but the one in Bodrum is pretty good, and is on a Tuesday.

will be careful if I feel its 2 hot! My son is so excited this time. He has got all his rucksack packed for the flight already!
Posted on another thread, about laundrettes. Can anyone tell me if there is one in Bitez? It would mean taking a lot less clothes. Is it worth doing in the middle of your holiday? Will it cost an arm and a leg or is it better than standing hand washing everything?
All opinions gratefully received,
Thanks.

Hi Kirsty, I think there is one at the back of the restaurant near the harbour. Seem to think I saw the sign for it. It's probably used mostly by the yacht people.
Don't know about in the village though, and I have no idea on prices.

Kirsty, there is one on the back road to Bodrum. If you come out of the Kassandra with the sea to your back and go along the road to the T junction - turn left and I am sure it is on your left hand side on that road. I have passed it a number of times.

There is, as Marn said, the other one behind the loos down by the marina - it is signposted if you walk along the front past the restaurant/cafe. The name starts with a P but I can't remember it now.

Sorry can't help with prices but you can always ask before you decide whether to use them or not.

Hi,
Back safe and sound! what a trip, bomb scares to start with then a nightmare hotel, just as well we loved Bitez! Thankyou to everyone who gave me great advice before going, I had my wee note pad with all my info and it came in very helpful. Will definately go back, as we made friends with so many people.
Met up with Bignighty over there and look forward to his take on things! thanks again

Hi Kirsty, glad to hear you're back safe and sound.

Prawn is not going to be pleased about the Kassandra. :( Was it that bad? I'm just glad that Bitez it'self was good to you. Where did you eat out? Manuela?

Will you post a full report? Longing to hear all about it.

Marn.

Hi Marn,

You'd be lucky to get a table at the Manuela this year, it was very full when I was there a couple of weeks ago. The guests are mostly Turkish on full board. Having said that the food is still really good and the guys as charming as ever.

Hi just read Kirsty's report on the Kassandra and I'm shocked was it really that bad?.We are going there in august and the majority of reports I have read have been good and all say it was very clean,I was so looking forward to my holiday and now well I don't know ,I feel a bit down :?:

I know how you feel annemac - I, too, had read some very recent reports on another forum that said it was basic, but clean. At the price we have paid that was what I expected. At the moment, since I haven't let 'Sir' see the report, I am still trying to decide what to do.

Kirsty, did you take any photos? I know that was not the main thing on your mind, but it may help with TO if anyone wanted to change before they go.

Hi,
Im really sorry, but I would not go back to the Kassandra. I have read some reports, but I guess its what you are prepared to put up with. I for one expect a clean place to stay. I spoke to other people who were staying there and they had to be moved room because of the ants in their bed. Another refused to accept the "clean" towels as they were so stained.
I know you can expect the odd ant but for me cockroaches are not acceptable and to have one crawl over your face when your in bed is, as far as Im concerned, asking a bit too much. Im sure bignighty will be along soon and give his thoughts on the place, but you wont catch me back there.
As for the staff, as I said only 2 were enthusiastic or interested the rest sat round the pool bar. The guy in reception was nice to begin with but when questioned or complaints made to him he changed. Even doing me out of money when I cashed a T/C.
We spoke to a couple who usually go to Manuela but couldnt get booked and they were shocked at the state of the place. dont get me wrong its not because its basic, that I knew, its the dirt.
So I am truly sorry for giving you my opinion and I dont want to upset anyone before they go on their hols, but if it were me I would try and change.
P.S Spoke to a family who stayed at the Cennet apartments in Bitez, they got moved to Gumbet cos it was so bad. Another Holidays 4 u place.

I think no matter which hotel you go in Bitez. Bitez is a lovely place with lovely beach, friendly people, excellent Turkish food in Bitez Seaside restaurant. Simply great...
