Mel
Prawn,
Just got back from Bitez our second visit in 2 years.I would recomend the following resteraunts.
Golden spoon (see Sammy or Charlie for a deal)tell them hello from Mark,Sam,Rolly & Freda
Sultan (2 doors down)
Salamakis for Chinese
Manuala/Temple Bar (Chicken Curry superb)
We were dissapointed with the Vona this year (poor service, small menu and portions and still expensive)
Also we did not see what all the fuss was about with the New Season ,meal was ok but nothing special(Daniel on the front is a bit of a pain in the a**e )
Must also mention the Summer Garden where we stayed,Excellent Hospitality and very good for meals and a well stocked and cheap supermarket.Would recomend it for everyone.A big hello to the man "who knows nothing " Ali
For the Boat Trip use the BBC the cheapest and best trips out of Bitez with no tours at all £7.00 for all day inc lunch.
Scooby - thanks for the info.
I was just wondering if anyone could recommend any nice self catering appts in this area, cos we are thinking about going next year, many thanks,Maz.
As my report I would highly recomend the Makumba Summer Gardens
Located just 1 road back from the beach literally 50 yards down a 10' at the back of the Temple Bar and Manula Hotel. If you want it a bit quiter place than on the front this is the place, the music is turned down at 11.30pm so you are not kept awake. As we used the Manula beach and cafe for most of our breakfast and dinners they let us use thier pool so we were only 20 yards from the sea or the pool all day. When I work out how to do it I will post some pictures. There is already pics of the Temple Bar Manula and the beach in the Bitez Gallery page 8.
Bitez is great a better more relaxed atmosphere than Gumbet. We have been twice in the last 2 years so it must be good.Going to try somewhere else a little closer and shorter flight next year but will definately return to Bitez in the future.
We've booked to go to Makumba Summer Garden in August.
Did you stay in the apartments or the hotel? We're staying in the Hotel.
All iinfo on the Summer Garden would be helpful.
Thanks,
Sharon
I know the hotel is but when i try and use the contact page to email them to ask I cannot get through
Would be very grateful if anyone can advise
We stayed at Summer Gardens 10-18th June and it was excellent!
Didn't realise it was a hotel as well -we just assumed all the accomodation was self catering.
We stayed in a studio for 2 people. It was basic but clean and all the amenities worked and there was always hot water for a shower any time of the day. We were at the far side of the pool on the ground floor (only 2 floors) and had a small but adequate balcony overlooked by flowering shrubs and fruit trees-very pleasant for breakfast and pre-evening meal drinks!
The staff at the Summer Gardens are wonderful (a special hi to Mehmet, Ali, Oscar and the lovely Salma and Marie).
The pool area is great with plenty of sunbeds (no having to get up at 6am with a towel) and drink prioces at the the bar are no more expensive and in some cases cheaper than along the front) -bar snacks are very reasonably priced with great food and generous helpings!
The main restaurant is also recommended and if you turn right out of the buiding and walk about 5 minutes along the raod there are a couple of other good resauarants The Blue Moon and The Red Dragon.
I'm sure you will have a great time- wish we were going again!
Any other info. you would like just ask
Scoobyclaret has answered your quetion and I agree with all the points made.We stayed from 19/06/2006 to 03/07/2006 and had a twin room appartment 2nd floor on the left opposite the bar 1 bedroom and 1 kitchen lounge area where our 2 children slept.Inlaws had 1 room studio diagonally opposite
The only item I added to the review list on leaving was I thought it would be better if there was air con in both rooms not just the bedroom. All the boxes I ticked as excellent.Selma is lovely my 11 year old son really liked her .As I said before the restaurant at Summer Garden is excellent also (chicken and mushroom and Steaks are superb).
It even better than the Paloma where we stayed last year and that was good.
Enjoy (also 3 lira to £ available in all bars etc. so great value )
Also another suggestion was that because the nearest pool table was at the Anatolia (which we were'nt that fond of) it would be good if he could have one for the youngsters and that way he would'nt loose the trade from people having to go down the road if they wanted a game of pool, anyway he emailed last week to say he'd managed to get hold of one and its been really good for the bar trade.
So thanks for that Oktay if you're out there your hard work in making our stay at the Manuela is all very much appreciated and I can't wait to be back in 3 weeks time.
Mel.
Hi Ya , we tried Bitez for the first time this year, and absolutely loved it, must recommend the Blue Moon restaurant opposite the Chinese on the back road left out the Manuela gates towards the mosque, Billy, Tommy, and gang were the best host and the food was absolutely mouth watering.
We enjoyed the Blue Moon as well. Last September we promissed Billy that we would go there for a meal. Food was good, and so was the company. The trouble is, there arn't enough days in the week to try all of the restaurants. Most of which are very good.
Just remembered to let Briar, Mel, Prawn, Del, and anyone else going to Bitez -- The Dolphin Restaurant has been rebuilt.
Don't know if any of you have eaten there, but it looks nice. They only finished it two days before we came home. They have even done up the beach area with new loungers.
Hope you all enjoy your hols.
Marn.
We did not try the Blue Moon However the guy who owns it must have a very good memory we only walked past once and he gave a card to my wife, a week later I am At Turgettiues Market and this chap is asking me if I want to buy some jeans ,which I didn't,and then wants to give me a card which I also did not want and he says "you are staying in Bitez and I gave your wife a card and you have not been,I will give you 2 bottles of free wine if you come "he also has a stall on the market as well as the Blue Moon.We only had 2 nights meals to have and had already decided to go to the Sultan and Summer Gardens .From the other reports I wish we had given them a go.

Hi, Andy. Sorry for the delay in replying but I must have missed your post. Someone else may know otherwise, but I can't remember seeing anywhere to change travellers cheques. We always changed them when we were in Bodrum, but this year we do not plan on taking them. Sorry not to be of much help but didn't want you to think we were ignoring you.
Thanks anyway prawn this is my last chance to check online as were off on monday so thanks again.
