We had decided that December 2007 was going to be our last trip to Goa for a while, however, my other half decided that perhaps we would go there this year and then go somewhere else next.
I have just come off of the First Choice website and nearly fell off my chair when I did a search for our favourite hotel. The price has gone up by a minimum of £400 per person. If we wanted to go there over the Christmas period, the holiday would be over £2,000 each.
I think I will leave it until towards the beginning of the season before we book anything. If the prices haven't come down a bit then I think we will have to go somewhere else.
I know holiday prices have gone up, but cripes, the hotel is very nice but there have been a lot of complaints about the basic rooms given out to F.C. clients, which is why we usually contact the hotel and pay them direct for an upgrade.
Sorry for ranting, but I am disappointed.
I booked the Marinha Dourada for Christmas and New Year (2008/09) in November last year and got a really good price, in fact it was cheaper than for the same period just gone. When we got back in January I upgraded our flights and still the deal was excellent.
Mum & Dad decided to come with us and I arranged their booking in March. They cannot get the upgrade on the flight and the total cost of their holiday (without upgrade) is slightly MORE expensive than ours - so it obviously paid to book that far in advance although OH thought I had gone completely off of my rocker Also with booking that far in advance we only had to pay a £60 deposit with the rest being payable in October. Mum & Dad had to pay close on £400 deposit!
I had been looking at the Club Mahindra as I couldn't get a price for the Majorda Beach out of First Choice. Last week that hotel was a bit cheaper than it is today. For example from the 11th Dec to the 25th Dec it was £601 per person which was the cheapest I could get pre-Christmas; when I looked yesterday it had gone up to over £700 per person.
Does anyone know why the holidays suddenly go up in price, is it because the holiday company puts the hotels on their website at a cheaper price just to see how much interest they get and then once people book, they put the price up?
Sheila.
friend of mine who's a travel agent told me the holiday companies can judge popularity by how many "hits" a place has on its website. If a particular place or hotel is attracting a lot of attention they can increase the price overnight because of it. I looked yesterday on FC website for a friend of mine and the price from 10pm last night to 7am this morning went up by over £100. FC do seem to have the best prices around at the mo for the 2 weeks Christmas period leaving around 12 th December. Some of the others are quoting prices for 2 well over £2000. Olympic have pretty much soldout their hols for the same period. My friend booked with them yesterday for the 13th dec and there are only 3 seats left on the flight now.
Also if FC have only just added Sydney's hotel how many hits could it possibly have had by now!
Not sure it's the hotel....might be the resort that gets the hits. I found a good deal 2 weeks ago with thomascook. It was £1000 for 2 people for 3 weeks from gatwick to Goa around 6th /7th December and staying at a decent hotel in Baga. I left it overnight because I like Candolim and couldn't decide about baga. Decided next morning that at those prices I could afford to book a hotel in Candolim and spend some time in each resort. Went back on to book and it'd gone up over £250 ! Not only that hotel either but all the hotels. Goa might be going to be quieter next season but Christmas still seems to be as popular.
I've also been told it depends on how many views they get on the internet that increases the price. I think £500 each for 3 weeks in December is an excellent price. The cheapest flight only i've found is £684. I've booked for 3 weeks, my friend 2 weeks, going package this time. Prices tend to stay high or flights sell out, I definitely don't want to be here for Christmas so have booked now.
forgot to say if anyone can find a good deal for around the 15th of march 2009 will you please let me know ..thankyou
Also with all the problems Goa is currently experiencing e.g. early bar closing, limited number of sun beds I think I will wait and see how things pan out.
However if my Birmingham flight does fly( not hopeful) will be going to Goa, however at present it is on hold until the tour operator decides to cancel, change the carrier, alter the time, day, departure airport of the flight - thats ok I am only the customer I don't expect to b considered. Agree with Neil's previous post can't trust any of the charters at the moment

Yes... I was going to put a deposit down on 2 flights to Mumbai but I'll wait.
Looks like the River Princess might just be North Goa's nemesis. What next? Well we haven't had a tropical virus or health scare yet! I don't think I would put a deposit down on a package to anywhere on the CCB strip at present. 'Caw canny' as they say roond here.
