Pat42 is the person you need :tup Pat has been holidaying in this area for I think it's 20 years. Through Pat, we too visited Cabana's in September last year and are going again in July.

We had a hire car and drove to some lovely places up the east side of the Algarve.

I had a lovely holiday in Cabanas when my children were younger. It's hard to beleive there is a place this unspoilt but with enough facilities for tourists this close to Faro and Tavira is the icing on the cake so to speak. This was a few years ago so I hope they haven't gone too mad with the buildingworks. I am biased though as for a short haul destination the Algarve is at the top of my list. Went to the far west this year which we also enjoy.

Hi :wave
I have been visiting Cabanas twice a year for a long time and my hubby and I love it there. So if you have anything you want to know specifically about the area, just ask.
You didn't say if you were hiring a car or using public transport.
However places to go include Vila Real do Santo Antonio, Monte Gordo, Altura, Castro Marim (conservation area with beautiful scenery), Tavira, Olhao, Fuzeta. These are all in the east of Faro. You can also go across the border and visit Seville which is amazing.
The people in Cabanas are so friendly and I'm glad you enjoyed your stay there but please,..........keep it quiet........we want it to remain as it is :zip
We are goin back in 7 weeks time and will also be there in September 11-25th, so we might bump into you :rofl
If you need restaurant recommendations, I can tell you our favourites!!!

Hi All, thanks for the replies. Yes Pat we did hire a car, and will be doing so in September. We enjoyed the places you mentioned, in particular Casto Marim, also Velha and Villa Real. We tended to eat at Pedros, but also went to Mariscos & Petiscos. We were interested in a small restauarant down the back streets, think it was called The Orange Tree, but it was closed when we tried. Do you know if the water taxi will be running in September-we did manage to get across to the far side of the beach at low tide in Velha, but would love to see the main part off Cabanas. We've booked a different appartment via Owners Direct, and are just now watching the airline sites for reasonable flight deals. We think Cabanas is a true gem and look forward to our return-and yes, we may bump into each other!
Many thanks. :)

Hiya,
The water taxi will definitely be running in September. I think it ends about October. The beach is beautiful and you can walk for miles.
Mariscos e Petiscos is wonderful as is Grelha Peixe next doors and run by the same family. We stay in the apartments there.
Personally I think Pedro's is overpriced and overrated. Along from there is O Monteiro which I think is also good. On the main front is Solmar and the food in there is good too.
The place you are talking about is the Little Orange. I have never been in it as it is an English restaurant (no offence but we prefer to go to Portuguese places). I have known many people who have been there and said it was very good.
Where is your apartment.....is it at Quinto da Gomeira? (that is where most of the apartments from owners direct are). If so you will have seen the Cabanas brasserie which is not bad. But for great value at a cheap price, try O Escalho next doors (cafe/bar) where you can get snacks or main meals all home cooked. :tup

Hi Pat. Thanks for the info. Yep, we'll be staying at the Quinto De Gomeria-we had a walk around there when we visited, and it looks ok and comfortable. Ideally we'd like a front line appartment, but most were booked-maybe next time. The appartment we had in March was lovely-on the Avendia de Pescardos, opposite the Pedros de Rainha. Tried to get this again, but already booked. We rented our car from Rent Auto at Faro airport, but will test the market-any recomendations?
Regards, John

Hi, I have just joined this site. My wife and I regularly visit Cabanas as we have an apartment in the Quinta da Gomeria. We bought it in 2005 and just love being there. Another good place to eat is just a long from O Montero, next door but one. It's name esapes me but, we have eaten there a few times and it has always been good. If you like you meat you should the Beef Kebab Madiera style at O Montero or if you are a fish lover you should try grilled Scabbard. Most of the restaurants serve it.

Antoher nice place to visit just over the border is Spain is Ayemonte. You can either drive there or take the ferry across from Villa Real.
