The closest i can think of is Arambol which has a shallow lagoon at the back of the beach which is good for swimming. The sea is rough here though.

Ashvem beach in the north has rocks that appear when the tide goes out,
the place was alive with red crabs.

when we visited last year it kept me interested for hours, dont know if i could spend a full holiday in the area but its cheap to get to in a taxi.

How about Vagator? We looked in little rockpools for ages when the tide had gone out. Nice place too.

Agree - Vagator has lots of rockpools.

hi
ashvem has got great rockpools but the sea has strong currents & is rough. however saying that there often is a big shallow area from the edge of the sand to the sea where it gets deeper, ( does that make sense??? )where i often saw kids paddling but definately not little kids unaccompanied.

Thanks everyone!

I think we might try both of those beaches as I dont think they are too far from Baga/Arpora where we are staying at the MD.

I have seen fish in there Barrie, it is fed by a little stream at the far end, maybe fish also enter here too ?

we have stayed at mandrem beach which has a rickety bridge as my grandaughters called it, leading from the shack to the beach, there is also beach shacks on stilts which you can stay, our grandchildren loved the adventure .you get your breakfast there are also a couple of groundfloor shacks with indoor toilet and shower and the food is fantastic.the kids wanted icecream but they did,nt have any so one of the waiters got on his bike and went for some.we had a wonderful time it was a novelty for the children.

Thank you, I have written details of that one down too! Did you pre book the hut? Or can you just turn up? and are there many shacks there?

I'd agree with little vagator. Arambol is good too. Not so much for rock pools but just for novelty. Its strange going from the sea to the lake as you can defiantly see the difference in buoyancy due to the lack of salt.

We went to Fishermen's Cove Beach Shacks at Mandrem. We stayed overnight in a hut on stilts and to get to the beach you had to go across a rickety old bridge, (like the Bushtucker Bridge in I'm a Celebrity get me out if here!) The sea was'nt as rough as I have seen it at other beaches, but you have to be careful of the waves. There were a few spots where the sea had left shallow pools and there were plenty of sandcrabs. I'm posting some pictures in the gallery. The first time we went we went just for the day and booked a hut for one night and we returned 2 days after to stay overnight. The year after when we went again, we had'nt booked, so our taxi driver got out and asked Philip who runs it if there were any huts available. there are plenty of other shacks with huts though ,there are some called Dunes which are next dooor and look as though they have many more huts than fishermans. Thoroughly recommend it, quiet beach with no hawkers, lovely food , watching dolphins on the sea. :D
