yes we did stay at the Laura, i got a bit mixed up
We joined up wth the world meeting of Round Table (500 people) and managed to see a fantastic dance show at Kourion and also watched the dress rehearsal of the opera at the castle.

Looking to hire a car for 4 days in Protaras, been quoted £95 pounds for a Ford Fiesta with air con, all insurances included with no access to pay, for damage, theft or accidents, does this sound reasonable or should i be getting it cheaper.

Who's that with?

I have booked ours with Pestsas (sp?) for £18cyp per day for 5 days inc all insurances etc. If its the same price for 4 days hire then they might be slightly cheaper?

That was for a yaris/polo/fiesta size car.

(had originally booked for 2 weeks at 16cyp but decided 5 days was enough)

That was with Economy car hire, it says they are a uk based firm, but i think they use a company just outside Protaras to bring you the car, I thought 95 english pounds was not bad for 4 days, a fiesta with air con and no access for any claim. That was for 1st-5th October.

No harm in emailing pestsas or another company just to get another quote to compare to then decide? It seems ok though :)

We are hiring ours from 28th sept - 3rd Oct.

Were in Protaras from 23rd Sep

Seems a bit much to me......

I would definitely try an email to Petsas, don't go with their website prices, you know you are dealing with a reputable company with them.

(Mark, hope this won't affect your commision  )

Well, I'm sat here in Oroklini's computer shop.
Outside is parked a Petsas Corolla with air c0n. I booked a Polo without air c0n. CYPounds 15 per day. (Where's the bl##dy pound sign on this laptop?!)

Mark

PS: Always email for a quote, never take a website price as set in concrete! Especially Petsas.

Got the hire car from Petsas today. They can give insurance for the north for £15 extra. (need to give 1 days notice)

Has anyone driven across the border? I have been hearing conflicting stories here, some saying you wil be chased to stop because of the hire car plates and others saying its ok but scarey. etc

When you go up to Famagusta can you only see around the walled part?

Sorry for the questions, just hearing so many different things here.

Heading to Pafos tomorrow so will try and check back on tomorrow night to see what you all think.

Thanks a lot

We hired a car off Petsas last week and went across the border twice, as we took the insurance for a week (20CYP). You cannot go into the UN patrolled part of Famagusta, which is fenced off, but you can walk round the old walled town and gain access to the beautiful beach near the Palm Beach hotel. From there you can walk along to the barbed wire fence and look at all the empty hotels, which feels really eerie and sad. The second day we drove up to the hills and to Kantara castle (great views from there) and then down to Bogaz on the coast for lunch. We didn't have any trouble at all, but made sure we stuck to the speed limits.
We didn't change any money as we used £CYP in Famagusta and £sterling in Bogaz for our lunch, although if you go more off the beaten track you might need Turkish money.
I'm sure you will have a great day out , don't forget your passports, you will need them at the border, and don't forget you can't bring more than a couple of packets of cigs back, the border guards will search the car!

Trust me, Marky knows best!

I'm quite fickle, and it takes the least thing to put me off something. I've been using Petsas for years. That must tell you something!
