weather in Cancun

Hi savannah!

I had my honeymoon in Cancun (albeit 7 years ago in November!) and we had a bit of rain during those 2weeks. When it did rain it poured down for about half hour, (we got caught walking back to the hotel from the shops and were drenched to the skin), but just as quick as the rain came, the sun then came out and everything dried up in about 10mins!

But its so warm there, its not like a horrible rain shower here in blighty, it passes quickly and then its back into the sun from the bar!

For a website to class a certain day as rainy/showers, it only needs to rain once on that day, so you may find all you have is the odd shower.

I'm off to Dom Rep in 2 months and its the rainiest month of the year! but i know we'll still have fun even if it does rain!

have a great time anyway x

Thanks for that.

I did think that what we class as heavy rain they might class as a short rain fall. I just hope its really sunny so I get a good tan.

Only 1 day to go....yipeeeeee :pele

Sorry about that last post it didnt make sense at all :whoops hehehe

What I meant to say was..........

What they think is heavy rain we think is just a small rain fall. The website I was on said that there is constant rain and thunderstorms but I've since been told its only short bursts of rain.... and of course it is appreciated because its so hot :sun

I went to Playa Dorada in Dominican last year for the last week in July/first week August, had the most amaxin holiday!! the weather did get a little cloudy a few days and rained during the day really heavily but for only about half an hour and then it was back to glorious sun. had a thunder storm the last couple of nights but it didnt matter, you still had a great atmosphere and by the next day it had all cleared up and was hot again.

Can anyone help me? I am looking to book a holiday in the DR 2007 - when is the best time to go weather-wise? I have two school age children, so a time in school holidays required, albeit avoiding hurricane season. Would like to go when you can basically guarantee sun, sun, sun and more sun!! :D Mixed views so far on here. I hve been told to go November to June to avoid hurricane season, but it appears this can still be a bit dodgy with the weather. Your help would be appreciated!!!!

Many thanks :thanks

I have a question too!

I want to go to Cancun on September 6th for 2 weeks, but have been told it's not advisable due to the risk of hurricanes/rain.

What do you guys think? Should I be looking to holiday closer to home?

I have been to the Dom Rep 2 years running in July. The first time the weather was very good, only a couple of wet days. Last year it was not so good. 5 or 6 bad rain days and a few cloudy days. This was down to the 2 hurricanes that passed by. Hopefully it will be better this year. I am of to mexico at in July and I think it is pot luck in the carribean in July.

Just got back from Punta Cana Dominican Republic. We were there for 14 nights. The weather was fantastic. Got burnt using factor 50!!! It rained for 2 minutes at the beginning of the holiday and was cloudy on the last day.

hello, can anyone help me.

i have booked to go to the domincan republic in september. after looking around for prices it was cheaper to go here all inclusive than to spain half board, but now i am a bit worried about the weather. everyone i know have gone in either august and september, and they said the weather was great. has anyone been there this time of year? i have booked the gran ventana beach resort. has anyone stayed here?

thanks for any help

Hi Lucie1 :wave

Welcome to HT.
You sure have picked a tricky month to call.
September is the hurricane season for the Caribbean so weather is unpredictable.
You can search the following site for detailed past records of weather patterns to give you some idea of what you may get.

Other than keeping my fingers crossed for you i'm afraid there is little more one can do to bring the great weather for you.
I know whatever the weather you will have a great time.
We went in May and it rained on and off afraid its just one of those climates hard to predict.

Have a great time.
Cheers Ken. :)

Hi Lucie1.

Don't worry.
I'm sure you will have a great time.
You have made an excellent choice for your partner's 30th, my comments earlier were just so you understand that the time you are going weather is changeable.
Have a further look here at reviews from other HT members especially members that have travelled in the month you are concerned about.

You will have a great time i know and remember if the weather turns for the worst like it did when we went on the jeep safari just enjoy it.
Rain in the Dominican Rep etc is nothing like you and i know our holiday was the first time i ever experienced warm water falling from the heavens(what a feeling we even danced in the complex to the music while getting soaked).

You and your partner will love it :D

Cheers Ken. :)

I was worried about the weather in Cancun at the moment, because it says thunderstorms - my hubby just got a text off his work colleague who's there now and he said "your having a laugh! It's boiling hot!!"

Hopefully it stays that way...........16 days and counting

Hiya, this might sound like a stupid question but here goes!!....

Ive read that its cloudy this week in the DR and I'm going next week, can you still get a tan when its cloudy!!??
Reply
I would imagine so, yes.
It's a fact that more than 70% of the sun's rays can penetrate through cloud.

More info HERE (scroll down to the 'prevention' section).
