Went to the Melia Cayo Coco in Feb of '05 and have to say that it was perfect. Know it was a while ago that the thread was started but for anybody that wants a livelier?? night talk to the dancers at your hotel and I can pretty much assure you that you will be invited out to a club with them, and when they're not working they deffinatly know how to have a good tme

anyone heading down to cayo coco in june
Ali, we are going to Tryp Cayo Coco in June. Never been to the carribean before, and we can't wait. Any tips from anyone would be great (electricity, plugs, clothing etc etc.)
Cheers

Mark we were at paradisus in Holguin 18 months ago absolutly fell in love with Cuba and the people we just had to go back but decided if you are spending all that money its nice to see somewhere different, i`m sure you will love it. Remember the caribbean is a total different culture to europe so don`t expect anything to be the same. Plugs are flat 2 pin the same as America, rooms normally have hairdryers but i always take my own and its fine. Clothing you need very little for during the day just the normal shorts, tee shirts pleanty of sun cream don`t forget insect repellant and to have all your injections. Make sure you have pleanty of toilitries as they are very expensive if you run out and very limited the same goes for sun cream. Evening wear can be smart but casual and most hotels men have to wear long pants for dinner however some hotels only say this is for the al`acarts but this does not normally mean jeans. Hopefully you are after a relaxing holiday because thats what you will get in Cuba. When in June are you going we are going on the 19th. Anything else you need to know just ask. Alison.

What is available?
how much does it cost?
Is it worth the money?
I have read about the speedboat trips for two people, but we are a party of three. Can the boats accommodate three, or does one have to go alone? Thanks in advance
Mark
we would also like to know as much info as poss about excursions from the tryp. in particular the swim with the dolphins. does anyone know if we would have to fly somewhere to do it or is it close to the resort complex?
found out yesterday that friends of ours parents went to the tryp last year and said it was fantastic.
really cant wait now!
Thinking of going to Cayo Coco in October. Grateful for any advice on destination, is it the ideal time of year to go, what should I see, where should I stay (been looking at the Melia) and what should I advoid?
Thanks for your time,
Pauline
Weather
We went in May and the weather was lovely- one day of tropical storms but it was a nice break of the blazing sun
Hotel
We stayed at el senador now nh krystal resort. The hotel is nice and has the best beach out of all the other hotels. When we went 1/2 the hotel was closed off but there was still plenty to do.
Food
Food is cuba is nice, Chicken, Rice, Pasta and lots of Pork. I read reviews about the hotels only providing fish, this is very untrue, there is fish to eat but alot of other choices too.
Airport
Ok, The airport is a bit of a nightmare, you get asked lots of questions but this is just for security and we didnt really mind it. $25 pesos to exit, Remember to keep your money saved.
Travel Adapters
We took a flat pin adapter as advised on here but the hotel we stayed in was the round pin adapter. Luckily the electrician made us a adapter so Id advise to take both with you just in case.
Excursions
many great trips you can do, some of them areexpensive from cayo coco like the one to havana and to swim with dolphins but others you can do locally are great prices and alot of fun.
People
The cubans are really friendly. If you decide to go take some small gifts for the children as they dont have much for themselves. The hotel staff speak spanish and very good english. you mainly find candians in cuba as its close to them. Most of the candians we meet were very friendly.
Anyone who wants beached with pure white sand, clear blue sea, fantastic weather and a relaxing time GO TO CUBA
If anyone has any questions let me know :-)
There is deffinatly nothing there. There is normally a lot to do in the hotels however.
14 days to go very excited
Thanks for your report. Glad to hear you had a great time in Cuba.
Myself and boyfriend are off to Cuba (not till 23rd April next year!) Already really excited!
Interested to hear more about the excursions, we were hoping to go to Havana for the overnight trip, how much does this cost and can you remember what it included?
Can you elaborate further on the trips that you did?
Many thanks
Katie.
I would just like to know if anyone has been there before, and could give me any useful tips? also is there anything to do at night? not necessarily clubs, but just some bars or anything??
any help would be greatly appreciated....
Thanks x x
if you fancy local flavour in Cuba, then Cayo Coco would seem to be a poor choice.
Having said that, my wife and I are off there in Feb. 2007 for two weeks (including three days in Havana) as ten days sitting on a beach/poolside with cold beer and a book to read sounds bliss. Not to bothered about being tied in as Havana will make up for that.
Cheers,
Jet.
