Hi...
Just wanted to let you all know that I have uploaded a new set of photos on our website :
The monsoon has never been conducive to outside play, but if the rain stops and the skies lighten we take the opportunity to get out side for a game of football, cricket or just a run round the local playing field. There's a lovely piece of land which we have 'adopted', the land ends with a stream and in the monsoon is a bright green from the broad leafed grass that grows there. Unfortunately the foot pitch has turned into a muddy brown colour from excessive use, but the children really don't care and it makes those sliding tackles even more fun. The volunteers are just as keen and can be seen giving their all, trying to beat the children at their own game. For the more reserved, small games of tig or skipping is fine to while away the time. * ( Photos courtesy of Amber Mezbourian )

Just found your newsletter, as we have been working hard in the garden this morning we took time out with coffee and biscuits and read it all in detail without feeling guilty.
It's always good to hear all your news and what is happening with the children,
We will be out in three weeks time and have already started to sort out what we have in the loft to bring with us.The list you gave me in an earlier posting was very helpful.
We are flying with Monarch, we paid about £4 each to up the baggage allowance from 15 kgs to 20kgs when we booked so 20kg will be yours.
Will give you a ring when we get there, really looking forward to seeing you all.

Glad you enjoyed the newsletter ( http://www.childrenwalkingtall.com/Newsletters.htm ), The next one (which I've already started writing shouldn't be too far away, we have been taking the children on a few trips (Baga Water Park, Mayhem Lake etc), It's also been Diwali celebrations) so lots to talk about...
It will be great to see you when you come, it's a shame monarch aren't doing Charity luggage any more, but the others carriers are quick sorting it out this year, which is nice...
If you haven't could you register and vote for us here ( http://optimistworld.com/RegistrationHome.aspx ) - It's free quick and simple...

New photos... The beach with the slum school and Chldren's Portraits... Enjoy!
Well it might not seem like it (here at least) but it's nearly CHRISTMAS!!! - We have been working hard sorting out presents to give out to the children over the Christmas peroid, unfortunately we don't quite have as many as last year. Currently we have wrapped up about 750 Christmas presents, I actually think each present has a few more items this year so maybe it's just us getting to generous per gift
Anyway, just to let people know that the week leading up to Christmas we will be out and about giving out the presents in the slums around Goa, So things will be manic, we also have to rehearse for the Panto we're putting on "Jack and the Beanstalk", renamed to "Babu and the Mango tree" where a put on a Sari and 'fill' the part of the Orge's wife (no funny comments please ) - We even have two volunteers playing Nandi, the cow. If the acting is up to scratch it should be very funny... I'm sure the kids will enjoy it anyway...
Anyway, best wishes to everyone "Have a Merry Christmas and a lovely new year..."
I have managed to finish the latest newsletter... Do have a read if you're interested... It was a bit rushed so please excuse any typo's
There's also a couple of new sets of photos and I will try and do the Christmas news i the next couple of weeks....

A great newsletter Rob, and very good to see there's an entry in the Lonely Planet guide. It's all good publicity Happy New Year to all at the Mango House!
I'm chuffed that we made it into the Lonely planet again this year, thanks for the best wishes, just wondering if anyone on here has been to visit this season? Just curious...

Some of the new pictures are great, it includes Goa Carnival, Holi, Christmas and lots more...
Let me know what you think...
Things here in Goa have been really busy with the new school term and lots of activities for the children. We went on a train journey with the kids before the monsoon and I've finally managed to get the photos up on the website. Do have a look if you're interested http://www.ChildrenWalkingTall.com/Pictures.htm
I've done 2/3rds of the newsletter and that should be out shortly. Just to keep everyone in the picture, Currently, we are waiting for our new licence to be issued after our last licence expired. Therefore, all the work ongoing at the present time is out reach work in the two local slums. This mainly consists of a morning school for the little ones (3 - 6 years). Around mid day we organise and provide a main meal to around 80 to 100 school children and provide fruit to around 120 to 150 children. In the afternoon there are homework and craft sessions for around 50 to 80 children.
Really sorry I haven't had chance to update everyone...
Rob
Well done, Rob!! You are all doing a great job! Good to hear from you!
Thank you so much for the words of encouragement, it does help to hear... Thanks..
We've been in the news a couple of times recently too, http://www.ChildrenWalkingTall.com/Charity-In-The-News.htm
When will you be coming to Goa? The weather here is OK now, there's an occasional shower but for most of the day it's blue skys and sun!
Rob, we arrive on the 28th December till 2nd March. Hope we can catch up with you this time!
Look forward to catching up. I've finally got the newsletter out, here's one of the stories...
Boiling Tea
Recently staff and volunteers had to deal with a child who had been scalded at Crossroads Slum. The boy in question had knocked boiling tea over and burnt his left forearm. It was left blistered, red and had open sores. His mother brought him to Mango House for treatment. She had tried to help him herself by covering the wound with ink. She believed that this would ease his pain, when in reality it could have given him blood poisoning and made the already gruesome injury look even more alarming.
At Mango House the wound was carefully cleaned, dressed and bandaged. The mother and son returned several times for follow up treatment which involved changing the dressing and cleaning the wound. The boy's arm healed well and any infections were thankfully avoided.

Keep up the fabulous work.
But thankfully we've had a bit of time to spend with the children and we did our bit the week up to Christmas... It was really good fun and we managed to wrap and distribute over a 1000 presents this year (thanks for all the support everyone!)...
Here's 3 sets of photos from the first couple of days... We had our party on Christmas eve and spent yesterday giving out presents in the local government hospitals in the children's wards and for the newly delivered babies... Was really nice....
