Shortish 2012 Report
Many will know my reports don't really change from year to year and this year is no different ! Way back the good lady and I booked for CT. Months later our youngest and her fiance asked if we would mind if they went at the same time then the eldest decided she would join us ... So, five of into a people carrier into Glasgow Airport for the 7.00am flight to Dalaman. Early rise of course but worth it as you get the early evening and night in the resort. ThomasCook flight, minimum leg room but fine. Met three other people I know on the flight (small world) Got through Visa/Passport control reasonably quick and the cases didn't take long either. Transfers with transfersforyou and were fine and reasonably cheap. Travelling in daylight lets you see just how much work has been done on the road into Marmaris.
All checked in to CT and down to the Seagull Bar around 5pm, first Efes. Sent a large white wine up to the room to the good lady who was unpacking (least I could do). Met lots we knew both staff and friends. It was good to be back.
Eating : we decided to take advantage of the upgrade option for 4 days of our stay. This gives you anything from the breakfast menu and anything from the main menu at night (T Bone if you like) drinks not included but excellent value at around £11 per person. While on the eating theme we all ate twice in the Taj Mahal and met up with Huseyn there, usual very high standard. Mandarin chinese above was visited too and was very good. Also went to the Kervan (Turkish) and the food was to die for. For those who know it note it has moved. Used to be next to Club Julian and now in new premises near Club Aida. Ate down at the Marina one night and food excellent too. Only one bad night and that was in the Chuckle Brothers, food / service very poor and not near the standard we come to expect. On avergae we were paying around 28-30 ytl for our wine which is good as we were getting and exchange rate of 2.80.
Paid a visit to the Romance Hotel to see Mehmet (Big John) who worked in CT last couple of years. He's doing well and spent some good time catching up. Every year our holiday throws up som, ething different and this year was no exception. Just about to leave the Romance one night when I met my cousin from Belfast, haven't seen him for two years (family funeral) and haven't seen his wife for 25 years !! now has two grown up sons who obviously we hadn't met either, what a time we had playing catchup with the old family stories. One night I gave them the tour of the new square with the fountains (old Tansas), a meal at the Marina and a walk through Bar St, great night.
New entertainment team at CT with Dom Dom being the only one from last year. Cubie and FiFi now there and as always all working hard to put a smile on our faces. Decided to play killer pool this year and won 5 out of 8 times I entered ... shark I hear you say. The five of us also won the Quiz night and won a whole bottle of wine between us ... few sips each.
Did our usual boat trip but after reading so much about it decided on the Mega Diana. Booked through A&S Travel just along the road where I found out sadly Rose had passed away last August. Mega £20 a head but excellent. You don't go to the bar they bring the drinks to you, over and over again ... Welcomed on board with a toastie and tea or coffee and lunch was decent too. Usual stop in Turunc, all in all one of the best boats we have been on.
Met loads of regulars (seems to get more each year) and made other new friends. Great having the girls with us again even if it cost me a fortune ...
We had booked the late flight home (4.30am) and encountered another hour delay. Arrived back in not so sunny Glasgow desperate for some sleep but as luck would have it we had to stay up and get ready for a wedding !!!
Another brilliant time in Club Turquoise. Before anyone thinks I have rose coloured glasses on every time I go the place has its faults. It is badly in need of investment to upgrade the rooms. Irfan the manager has told me that funding is now in place. That said, the rooms are absolutley fine, spacious with basic cooking facilities, certainly all we need.
Can't wait to go back ...
