CORAL BAY

I live very close to Coral Bay and its the best beach in the west of Cyprus, busy in high summer but you will almost have it to yourself at Easter, if the weather is ok...
There are plenty of bars, shops and restaurants to chose from, and you have Peyia village just up the road a little that has more traditional tavernas and bars, well worth a visit, again just a short ride form that area is the village of Kissonegra, pronounced ''Kissonica'' again some very nice Tavernas and some good small restaurants, to sum up Coral Bay is not a big area and most aspects of the bay can be walked to, Kato Paphos is a taxi ride or catch the local bus and is about ten kilometers east...I am sure you will have a great time..

JimBox is right in what he says. I liked Coral Bay so much I bought a home there for my retirement (still a few years away!!) For now I rent it out, if you have a look at my webpage there is a section there on local restaurants where I have written some reviews, hope you find it useful and i'm sure you'll have a great holiday.

The info on the resteraunts was very good, we had heard about "Phideas tavern" and that was very interesting about the tea towels :)

Hi all (Jimbox you sound a star :P )

Me & my Girlfriend fly out to Cyprus on Sunday & are staying in Coral Bay. I know it's away from Pathos which isn't a problem But we would like more details on places to eat and drink in Coral Bay  Not too bothered about nightclubs anymore (27 now getting old) but like a freindly bars with a decent atmosphere + football on tv .

How many taverna's are there in Coral Bay roughly ?

And Gemma is worried that she wont get a tan  Should she be worried or can I tell her she can sunbathe during the day while I find a bar to have a few beers :P

Any other Coral Bay tips would be great too.

Thanks

A star...well that's a first.. :D

Coral Bay has many restaurants and bars, but only maybe one what I would call a taverna, that would be Phidias's almost next to the left turn into Coral Bay Plaza, you cant miss it..look out for the owner..he calls his food ''Sexy Food''..yes well...if you drive up to Peyia village only a couple of minutes away you do have plenty of proper tavernas and one bar ''the Jail pub'' but the food in most of those tavernas in traditional meze and other Cypriot fair..
Also another short drive away east about three kilometres is Kissonegra (Kissonica) there you will find two proper restaurants and three tavernas, well worth the three minute drive..
Coral Bay is very touristy fine if that is what you are after, it has a chip shop, probably the best in the Pafos area (not Pathos please pet hate!!) and also a Chinese and an Italian restaurant, further towards the west of Coral Bay you will find the ''Keralam'' great Indian food, well worth a visit, not cheap but the best they tell me.

You have the only decent beach in the Pafos area in Coral Bay and if it's warm enough for you it's great for swimming, safe and clear water..nice, I hope the weather warms up for you, as today it is clear and sunny but certainly not warm enough for the beach or swimming for me...at this moment it is 72f..21c...and in my opinion perfect weather, soon it will be too hot...honest!!

have a great stay..

Hi Rawowl

theres not much more to add about coral bay, except for if its football you like try Kykkos's cocktail bar he has all the footy on.

You'll love your time in Pafos & Coral Bay. but if you can , try the drive to peyia for a real cypriot meze as jim suggests..Its an eating experience you'll never forget.

Jim
where exactly is Kissonegra (Kissonica), ?
cheers

Gazz easy this one...

Turn right out of Coral Bay towards Pafos as you drive past banana bay..the big bay just out of Coral Bay take the next fork in the road to the left otherwise you will end up in the sea :D or in Pafos town... the next village you come to will be ... Kissonegra (pronounced Kissonica)..also drive through Kisssonegra and the next village on this road is Lemba, it has a great Taverna with a large menu, they also do Souvla (BBQ) and steaks... and of course other Cypriot dishes...don't miss this taverna ...it is called ''The Lemba Taverna'' it is on the right hand side of the road next to the Lemba Church, in fact you can park up in it's car park....I will be in there tonight...wish you join us!!

Cheers for the info guys. The Girlfriend wants to know will it be hot enough to get a tan  Im not bothered about it being hot hot but would be nice to relax in the sun.

Also I love a lager :) which of the local brands would you recomend & how much would I rougly pay in a bar ? not too fussed if it's the same as over here but curious all the same.

What meze by the way ? I love spicey meats so I hope its like that .
Reply
A meze is not spicy it is actually a Turkish menu of lots of small portions of local food sometimes as many as twenty different meats, veg, and dips, a must have if you come to Cyprus, but not at Coral Bay go to Peyia and get one there, local beer is one of four now, Keo, Carlsberg brewed on the Island bottled beer ''5'' is very nice and Leon...one to forget! most other brews of the imported kind are available, but a little pricy I think...

as for the weather that is of course in the lap of the gods, it's a little early in the summer to guarantee hot weather, but a lot better than where you are coming from for sure..

Hi all 8)

Got back from Coral Bay last night after two weeks of beautiful hot weather 8) (just cloudy for about 4 days  )

We found the best restaraunt was "Al faro" on the same road as the chippie (but further down on the opposite side).

You can't miss it at all, you have to walk between a giant statues legs to get in

The food is second to none and it is a very popular place, tuesday night is Greek singing and dancing (book your table first!)

I would highly recommend the "Ostrich steak" i had them nearly every night :)

Babe you cant be serious hot weather, why have we had our fire on most nights, hot comes in July and August it certainly is not hot at the moment...sorry you must have spent the holiday in a bar or two!! :?

jim...although we ate out tonight...I mean outside!! first time this year though!

It was certainly warm for someone who had come from the North of England and then was greeted by double the temperature

i agree that the temps could get cool especially at night....but we were used to central heating...we cuddled up more in bed, after all we stayed in a villa without any heating.......but the sunny days made up for it.......i even braved the pool a few times (unheated)....i have returned home with a cracking tan and fab memories

we have considered moving out there..........but we would consider central heating for the cool nights and winter, plus a few rugs on the floor  apart from that.......it was great and i would strongly urge anyone to stay there 8) believe me temps of 24c plus were good to us

Well if it's like a good summers day back home during the day that is great :) I dont mind how cold it gets at night.

What are the bars like tanned babe ?
Reply
The bars are good too..........especially the cocktail bars

all the staff and service is friendly..........enjoy your hols and let me know how you both got on over there....i'm not jealous...honest  8)

The 698 bars are wonderful in the Pafos area...how many can you use?

Today (Friday) we have a Coptic storm going on in Pafos overcast and amazingly powerful wind that is blowing sun beds and all and sundry that is not fixed down, the other amazing fact is it is a hot wind, just like standing in front of a massive hair dryer, dust and leaves cats and dogs are flying by, plenty of room on the beach though!! :?

a hanging on Jim....
