Hi Laine

Just tried Cruise Reviews and I can access them too. :hmmm No idea what could be wrong. If you are still having problems perhaps it would be worth posting in the Help and Assistance forum.

http://www.holidaytruths.co.uk/viewforum.php?f=50

I see that someone has already posted in there that they were having problems accessing the Photo Galleries.

Thanks for the information re Naples to Pompeii. :)

I had already printed off the train times from Trenitalia but I had missed the fact that there were two different stations so it would have been a possible non-starter had you not posted!

The server is being updated and this could be the cause.

 I have been reading with mounting horror, Fay, the review of your cruise. I feel sad that obviously such a large amount of time was spent making lists of things that were wrong, or could have gone wrong, and wondered whether had you spent as much time detailing everything that was right, or nearly right, perhaps you would have enjoyed yourself a bit more!! For example this list could say, there was fruit in the cabin, or they got two of my excursion tickets right!!

I am all for reading reviews, but didn't find yours too balanced :(

Anyway, if there is anyone out there who now doesn't wish to use their cruise tickets based on the above, please feel free to pass them on to me!!!!!!! :D

Hello to everyone who is sailing on the Melody on the 20th June.

You are going two weeks before me Avril, so could I please ask you to make sure you leave the Melody 'all ship-shape and Bristol fashion'.

Incidentally, surely everyone knows that the only way to get foreign waiters to understand English is to shout at them. (Yes, I am joking, in case anyone thinks otherwise)

Hi

Thanks for the reviews it certainly helps in making ones mind up.

The only point not mentioned so far is on the question of 'tipping' - what was the system and about how much were you 'expected' to pay?

madsue - I certainly did say there was fruit in my cabin, as you'll see if you read my posts. I couldn't say they got 2 of my excursion tickets right as they didn't get ANY right. Making a list doesn't take long, just seconds to add an item - and I had to redress the balance as I'd heaped lavish praise on all my previous cruises (they were absolutely perfect in every respect) and I'd also said all ships were excellent (in response to a post wondering whether to pay for an upgraded ship).

There was something I didn't mention because I thought somebody else might: we knew from the previous week's Melodians that some tables got faster service than others. You've guessed it: my table was among the slowest. We were still waiting for our main course when other passengers started leaving the restaurant, and we were still waiting for our sweets when all the tables around us were empty. Someone on our table (not me) complained about it, and it improved marginally some of the time. In Ibiza we had very good service, as so many people dined ashore. I'm not mentioning the table number, as if enough people mentioned it on their comment forms I assume things will improve for later Melodians.

I met a lady who had paid R*** £200 for her cruise, including £93 insurance. She couldn't use the Internet, so there was no way of helping her. Another lady had paid £1000 to share with her husband, and realized she'd been done. She needed help, and I did all I could to advise her. Unfortunately, I got thoroughly told off for my efforts by 2 other people (who shall remain nameless). If this lady was helped in any way by anything I said, then the tellings-off were worth while. I was also mildly admonished for spending a great deal of time sightseeing ashore and watching the passing scenery when it appeared, but that ended when I explained that's the reason I cruise, and we're all different. You always get some people who criticise anything and everything you do, and while I normally listen to other views there are times you have to do what you believe to be right - which is why I'm glad I wrote in such detail. On the other hand, you always find there are people who are glad of your input, and even thank you - and now it's my turn to thank YOU for your kindness.

I can't find details of passenger/crew ratios in the MSC brochures, and certainly crew were comparatively thin on the ground - and far more exhausted than on any of the other ships I've been on. Maybe they're made to work even harder than on other ships.

Cigs in Malta: I wrote that I paid 13 euros for 200 on my list, that should have been £13. Sorry.

I've slept in terminals 1 & 3 at Heathrow out of the holiday season, both of which were VERY crowded - especially after 2-3 am. So if you're flying from either of those very early, you may try t2, as it was far emptier - getting there and back shouldn't take too long.

Just one or 2 comments on your previous posts. I had a pm from someone (who shall remain nameless) which substantially contradicted what they wrote on the forum. If more people had been more open about their true experiences, mine would be far from the only negative voice. I understand their reasons for not doing so, and don't blame them in the least.

Transfer vouchers weren't collected either going or returning, so don't worry if yours don't turn up.

The ''face flannel'' discussion was quite interesting. Those of you who say you wouldn't use hotel/cabin ones because you ''don't know who's used them'' presumably wouldn't use their towels, sheets or pillowcases either? Not to mention crockery and cutlery? If hygiene wasn't carefully planned and executed then illness would spread like wildfire - no ship or hotel can afford to risk that. Those who do, risk having their licenses withdrawn. I doubt any shipping line would survive if its ships were put out of action for long periods - word gets around, and their other ships might lose customers too.

I must have misunderstood your post on page 110 then Fay, when you said you managed to get your green tickets for the 3rd and 4th excursion. Yes of course I saw that you mentioned you had a fruit bowl, but again in a negative sense in that you don't like kiwi, therefore why did they give you another one! Perhaps they thought you were saving it for another day? Perhaps, that bit of your review should have read, there was fruit in the cabin, but unfortunately not to my taste. That would have been sufficient!!!!!!!!!

I am merely trying to suggest that such a long, rambling, and IMO mostly negative review, with again IMO irrelevant niggles about flannels, wastebins, etc etc, has not best helped those waiting for their cruises.

Still everyone has their own opinion, and I am glad there have been other reports from cruisers on the same cruise with totally different reviews.

EUREKA, I HAVE FOUND IT :!:

Lying on the doormat this morning, actually. No upgrade, but hey, l could care less. My bedroom floor is now littered with past holiday detritus, some of the sun creams have formed a crust. I'm off to put my James C.D. on and dance some more weight off.

On another subject; round our way, girls are brought up to boil their flannels in a big pan on the stove .Mother-in -law stick would be off the scale if word got out that this rule was being bleached, sorry, breached. If you don't believe me, read Peter Tinniswood.
