A few years ago in Goa i saw a man sunbathing with his arms up in the air (obviously so he could get the inside of his arms brown). He looked a right state, everyone laughing at him

You're laughing but for all you know he could have been being held hostage!!!

And when you get there, Darren, you will have 1 or 2 weeks of rest from all of us HT Members asking your advice!!
It is always appreciated though. Thanks.

I love setting my out of office at work, knowing that all those whinging customers will be dealt with by someone else while I lie on a beach. Also driving home on that last day knowing you wont be making that journey for a few weeks....oh yessss! :tup

Ah crickets - yes! I remember my husband brushing one off of my shoulder and it landed between an ample bosom of an lady we had only just met! She screamed as he tried to retrieve it but they ended up as friends so crickets have another good memory for me (and my Husband!!!!)

Another one for me is that first night you go out for a walk - the smells of garlic and barbequed meat wafting from all of the bistros as you walk along! :sun2

I love landing safely the other side, and I can't wait to get off that plane!! I forget about it then until the day of return, then the panic sets in again :yikes I also love knowing that I get hubby all to myself for 2 whole weeks :tup

I forgot about one, I also love it when I safely have my cases on the trolley ready to set off for the apartments.

Does everyone else stand there praying that their luggage is on that belt? ;)
Reply
Yep - every time - especially if they're some of the last to come round. I also wonder whose is the suitcase that seems to go round & round & round on the conveyor belt :que

we take 4 cases and last year 2 of ours came off first and the other 2 seemed to come out last, was starting to panic thinking they had got lost :rofl

Definitely the sound of crickets and then the smell of the barbecued food. :D

Also, when you first step off the plane and the heat hits you. :tongue

That's when you really know you're on holiday.

Love it. :tup

Lots of things to love about a holiday. Having pondered over many of the things mentioned in the posts I think my absolute favourite thing and the true start to my holiday is walking in to the room/apartment for the first time. The flight worries and the worries over non-arrival of luggage is over, as is what can be a tedious transfer to the hotel. The only mundane thing left to do is to unpack the case.

I agree with the crickets at night by the pool. and believe it or not, the spanish riding past on there mopeds you know your on your hols when you here that every 2 seconds, also agree with the case, waiting for the baggage and stressing that mine comes round safely panick every time. mine seems to be one the last ones off, cos its that heavy... :cheers

Oh and the heat hitting you when you get of the plane, jus tlove that feeling and hearing the spanish language and seeing lots of spanish at the airport, and that smell off warm, weird smell but love it... :sun2

What about the bit where you check into your hotel and they give you your room number.
You have no idea where that room is and you get into the lift with your suit cases etc, open the door and rush straight to the balcony, push back the curtains which are always closed and your view is exactly what you were wishing for!!!
We have been lucky most times but once we did just that and our view was a graveyard which obviously was not the view we were hoping for. Since then, we have our fingers crossed until we know what we are getting for the next week!
