I know this has been discussed before but I guess things change pretty quickly.
Last year I took a small netbook to Goa to keep in touch with family on Skype and e-mails. I used Wi-Fi in two places and hey presto, half my contacts started to receive e-mails, allegedly from me, encouraging them to buy the little blue pills. Embarrassing or what?
I'm very wary of using Wi-Fi again so is the answer a dongle? If so, how easy is it to get one and what do they cost?
They are not cheap, approx 2,500 R/s plus a download subscription but it's the fastest on the market in Goa so far - I think.
I had the Tata Indicom dongle previously which was really slow. The Photon is almost as quick as my home broadband.
You will need passport photos, copies of passport & visa etc, like you would for a mobile phone sim.
You need to make sure when buying one that htere is a good signal where you are staying.I have the Tata Indicom, which is quite quick here, but tried to upgrade to the Tata Proton. However, there is no signal for it where i live.
I guess 2500rs isn't too bad when you deduct the cost of visits to the e-mail shop and add the convenience/security factors.
I always get my sim card from the little shop near the calangute roundabout, next to the market. He's always helpful so I guess I ask him about it too.
i also live on the border not far from you as you know,,i use the Tata Photon dongle and it works realy well ,got it from the Tata shop next to calangute post office ,the girl who works there is very good, take your lap top with you she will set it up while you wait, you need the usual copy of your passport visa etc ,you can pick various tarrifs depending on what you need ,also when you go back to Goa the next time just go in the shop pay your prepay and she makes a phone call and your back on,

but taken up to the roof terrace its very fast.so the signal does very from signal strength just by moving upstairs
its twice as fast. As you know we are just behind the football field Candolim. We tried to upgrade last year to Tata Photon dongle, but that had no signal in our area. think you need to try before you buy

so,just dont live downstairs
Hi Split, I am surprised you get no signal with Photon. We are not a million miles from you, near the Highland Beach Resort and I have found the signal to be great.

Hi Katie, even other neighbors next door get great signals ,they said we were in a black hole area and couldnt garantee
a signal. We have now stuck with the Tata Indicom dongle and use the terrace
