You can use your UK dongles and just put an Indian SIM card in. The only additional information you need is the "new" network APN details which you can get by googling (i.e. Airtel APN).

Lots of UK dongles come already unlocked but some don't. They are MUCH easier to unlock than a phone though. Try simply asking your network provider first but if that doesnt work then Google "Unlock Dongle". Or ,of course, ask at the Elephant Shop.

Well for those of you who use it BSNL wimax it is down completely, has been for a week and will be for the forseeable future (this is the BSNL wireless, not the landline connection which is slower and not wifi) :rofl that will teach me to show off :rofl

i find it quite unbelievable that something so big can just collapse :que they are actually telling their customers to look for an alternative as they have a massive bug on the system and will not be sorting this any time soon, but they are still happily taking the mthly DD of 1900 rps!!!!!!

So yesterday after much ummming and ahhhing i bought the new (latest) reliance dongal, (only been out 2 mths & apparently it is better than the tata photon according to victor at the little shop by rising waves, he also said the photon would not work for me in my location) anyway, i am very very happy with it.... downloading my TV progs very fast and also loading my web pages very quickly and I am even sat under the stairs using it right now and its still as good even in this enclosed space...

Skype is also brilliant using it, even better than on the BSNL wifi broadband i had, no dropped connections etc... highly recommend this dongle ... I am in candolim near Lawande and cactus...

Does any one know how much the dongle's are and if there is a time period you have to have them over,

The Photon dongle costs around 2,500 then you have to subscribe to a monthly package. The recharge on mine for unlimited downloads was approx 700 rupees for the month but only needed it for 2 weeks.

Rs 2500 sounds a lot for just 2 weeks to me. I appreciate that for long stayers it might be a different story. Anyway the make of dongle is largely irrelevant, it's the carrier that's important. If you have a dongle in the UK then take that, most are unlocked but even if its not then they can be unlocked very easily ( either here or in india) and then you only have to pay for the sim & data

Edit: To check if your dongle is unlocked put any different sim in it and see if you get a signal

I dont think it is that easy to get a dongle unlocked, the places here I have tried have not been able to, there is so liitle call for it, so I would have thought it would be more difficult in goa :(

I unlock them regularly for our employees that work internationally. They are much much easier to unlock than phones and as I said many are already unlocked. The mobile companies aren't as paranoid with dongles as they are with phones for some reason but even if it is you can download lots of freebie programs off the web to unlock them....google dongle unlock.
