Hi Jim
It is no use Jim your advice is falling on deaf ears,How many times have you seen the little Suzuki jeeps upside down all with bald tyres.
When the Grape lorries come down the Polis Rd, just above your village it is like a skid pan.
Regards John

sorry kath
Weather..normal Aug Sept hot & humid..91f at the Mo!
Could anyone give me an idea of how long it'd take to drive from one side of the island to the other - ie, from Paphos to Protaras or thereabouts? We can't make up our minds which one to stay at but would want to hire a car for about a week and want to see as much as we can. Would i be right in thinking there's more to see from the Paphos side? I don't want to find we've got to travel miles each day in order to get out and about!
Many thanks,
Bec
Ooh wizard I had to re-read your post! On first reading I read it as 3/4 hour (i.e. 45 mins) and thought wow you must drive really fast!
about 4.5 hours at a leisurely drive. We were diverted to paphos a couple of years ago and it took the guts of 4 hours in a taxi but my parents go quite a bit and they usually give 4 and a half hours for the journey
One week at one end, another at the other.
We stay a week in Larnaca and a week in Pissouri.
Admittedly, we have a car for the whole fortnight.

I can't comment about what there is to see from the Protaras end because I have not been yet but I'm sure there are lots of things to see.
From Paphos, you can get to many places quite easily. The Troodos mountains are within easy reach of Paphos, and many villages. You can also get to the Baths of Aphrodite and the Akamas fairly easily.
It depends what you want to go and see really. There are many historical sites to see in Paphos itself, you just have to find them.
I would recommend seeing the Tombs of the Kings if you are in Paphos and the mosaics.
My advice would be to look in a guidebook or on the internet, decide which places you want to see and then work out where it would be more convenient for you to stay.
When are you thinking of visiting Cyprus?
Now its mostly motorway, I can do Paphos - Protaras in about 2.5 hours, and thats without gunning it on the motorway. Its about 115 miles.
The scenic route?...now thats a different story

We're hoping to go at the end of Sept / first 2 weeks in Oct. Paphos does sound as though there's plenty to see and do round there, we would have a car for about a week and the Troodos Mountains would be a definite for us. Perhaps if we stayed in Protaras we might end up doing alot of driving to get from A to B!
Maybe best to stay in a central resort, Limassol? not a pretty place but you could get to most parts of the island fairly easily from there, please be aware of the driving standards here they can be at best bad!! please take care.
Thanks.
Which hotel are you staying in? Some are on the beach, and some across the road!
Was looking to book Luca Poiseidonia.
