Sorry if in the wrong section . But i read on another forum that there was a earthquake at 6.27 this morning measuring 6.3 on the Richter Scale which is quite strong , it was felt in Hisaronu, Ovacik and Kaya Valley. Apparently the epicentre was a few miles south of Rhodes, does anybody know any more , is it anything to worry about ?

We have just been speaking to a friend who lives in Rhodes Town. A lot of structural damage to buildings & bits falling onto cars. One woman has died after falling downstairs when earthquake struck. Our friend has a broken ankle.Rather odd no mention of Quake on BBC News or Sky News web sites.
I heard this on the local radio news driving into work this morning.
My daughter and son-in-law are in Rhodes at the moment. The 'quake woke them----------no mean feat!It seems that the epicentre was at Prassonissi, the bottom of the island. They are warning people to be aware that as the epicentre was in the sea there could be a tsunami. Hopefully that's an exageration but it's quite worrying.
oh my god...thats really scary....i fly out in just over two weeks...getting married there!!!!! there was an earthquake not that long ago in turkey which affected rhodes...this is all to much...happening more and more!!!!

I'm sure it will all be fine. I've been in Rhodes during an earthquake twice!!
I am out there in 3 weeks time. Guess I had better pack a tin hat amongst the summer wear
i was thinking more along the lines of a full suit of armour!!..are earthquakes a regular thing then in rhodes???
She said it was quite scarey and everything was shaking. The drawers fell open and everything fell off the dressing tables.
Thankfully they are ok. She is staying in Trianda.
She said the reps were playing it down.

The t.v. in the hotel bedroom is on one of those arm stands. They couldn't get a picture at all but during the 'quake it swung across the room and the picture is perfect now!!!!
yes they said ,,,,, must have them all the time,,,,?
It wouldn't worry me too much but I can understand how others may feel. I experienced a small quake in Turkey once, we were sitting outside a bar and all the waiters came running out screaming. To me, as a London commuter, it felt like that sensation you get on the underground when a train is coming, so I didn't really realise it was happening till the waiters panicked. It was much worse inside the hotel though, my sister was having a nap and got shaken out of bed but we put much of this down to shoddy building and too much acid in her hippy days.
just returned from faliraki last week. we arrived on the 16th and were told by people already there about it, but saw no structural damage. we travelled from the top to the bottom on the east side of rhodes, only thing we could see going on were the fires in the south which apparentley had been started by a couple of men from a different country, The water planes were flying over, and occasionally some cloud would travel up the island with a faint smell of smoke. Don't worry and let it spoil you're holiday, it's all controll and very much away from all the tourist areas. Enjoy Rhodes, and make sure to see more than your resort, it's a beautiful island
