Hi Sliema2

Although I have looked, I have never seen Kinnie or Galletti biscuits in the UK. I also brought some home the last time, but somebody eat them

I can help you with your Gbejna though -

As they are lonely in your fridge I will give them a good home

Hi Graham, thank you for the info and the very generous offer to keep our Gbejna company, however, that won't be neccessary as I have contacted the manufacturers direct to see if they can send us a box of galletti's and they will keep the Gbejna company on there arrival :D , one of our friends in Sliema has very kindly offered to post us some but the chances of them getting here without turning in to dust are probably quite slim :? , we are off to Italy next week so will be having a look to see if they do something similar 8) , glad you like em though they are really nice biscuits and ideal for cheese and pate, and are wonderfull beer companions with cheese or salami when in Malta, or even saturday night in front of the TV with a large glass of proper scrumpy :).

Also, have to fully agree about your recent posting on the aviation museum at Ta Qali, it is a great place and really interesting, Mrs Sliema2 doesn't have much interest in that kind of thing but even she enjoyed it there, I enjoyed it greatley as I had only just finished reading a great book on WW2 in Malta called "Fortress Malta- an Island under siege by James Holland" in which pilots like Wing Commander Adrian Warburton & Alex Mackie were mentionedn and of course as you know there are artifacts from both these pilots and many others at the museum, the crafts centre is also a good place to potter about in (no pun intended) before heading up to Dingli, Rabat, or Mdina for a spot of lunch and a few beers.

I love Pastizzi, more so the pea cakes to the cheese cakes. When we were in Malta in March we brough loads of Galetti back and have just asked some of our relatives(hubbys side of the family) who live in Malta to bring some over for us when they visit in July.

My hubby loves Cisk and prefers it to any of our English lagers.Tried Kinnie for the 1st time and i must admit i thought it was disgusting.
My favourite Maltese food is Baked Rice which i have started making alot here at home.

Hi Jojouk, have to disagree with you on Kinnie, I'm not one for fizzy drinks in the uk, but nothing can compare with a pint of ice cold Kinnie on a red hot Maltese day pure heavan deffinitely the king of soft drinks but each to there own of course, and as for baked rice (Ros il forn) it is superb, I too have been making it for a while now using a typical Sliema recipe, I made a huge 1 for a friends birthday party and though hmmm bit big that no way it will all go, but guess what it all went on the evening and very well received it was to, we are back in Malta in about 10 weeks (and counting) and simply can't wait.

O dear

I think I will have to stop coming to this forum

Every time I come here and all this lovely Maltese food gets mentioned my mouth starts to water and I start to dribble on to the keyboard

jojouk must agree with you about the Kinnie :yuck however I have found that if you use the Maltese pronunciation you get a local drink that is much much nicer, try saying this the next time .......

Cisk or Hopleaf :glynis

Hi Sliema2,

Great news about Hop Leaf etc but do you know if Maltese wine is also available here yet?? I do order wines from suppliers here and can get some 'out of the way' ones but nobody seems to be able to supply me with my favourite Maltese brands!

Hi Trev, good to hear from you mate, must admit not thought about the wine I reckon I must be slipping  however, I am due to be speaking to them this week so I will deffinitely ask the question and report back here, however, I am pretty certain that both Delicatta and Marsovin will ship you a case of whatever you fancy, I made similar enquiries with Master Wineries in Naxxar about Black Eagle and Zeppi's annisette and they were more than keen to supply me in the uk, so the I can't see any reasom why the wine makers should be any different, if you do contact Delicatta and Marsovin about this could you please let me know how you get on as we could be interested in this also, anyway mate how long is it until your return to the magic isle, it's just over 8 weeks for us and counting got so much planned just hope we can fit it all in, but if not then there is always next time, out of interest have you got any special plans for your holiday ? ie, places to visit etc, hope you don't think that I'm being nosey just interested as I know that we share a similar passion for the magic isle and I do of course respect your views and interests in Malta, look forward to hearing from you.
