In the early days of going to Tenerife, I used to argue with them but I could see the reps loving it. I now just say 'no thanks' and carrying on walking as most people have said.

The best time was last year when a Scandanavian lass asked the following -
Are you English ?
No.
Scottish ?
No.
Welsh ?
No.
Irish ?
No.

What then ?????
Scouse

She didn't have a clue. Me and the missus just carried up the road leaving the poor girl confused :tup

I just don't go where they are, simple as. So if the good people of PDLA want my custom they need to get rid.

Hi Folks

Just flew back into Glasgow from Tenerife having spent my first weeks holiday on the island.

My accomodation was ok (stayed in Laguna Park 1) but my biggest annoyance was my inability to walk 10 yards without being approached by either someone sticking a menu in my face, trying to flog me a timeshare or one of those holday clubs or thrusting bar/pub 'cards' in my face.

Now some will say these people are only trying to earn a living but this ruined my Tenerife experience for me.

Staying local to the San Eugenio area my girlfriend and i used to go down every night down to the the long street (sorry dont know) name - where the Scotch Corner/Irish Fiddler is right along to The Sunwing resort and it seems that on every available piece of land someone has built either a pub or a restaurant. As there are so many of these touting for trade, things are starting to get stupid. Tried to go various side/back roads for the street workers had them covered.

Cant something be done to clear the streets of these pests. Know Palma/Maguluf was trying something similar.

Any comments welcome.

Tom

Some good news.

Timeshare that operates out of premises under Reveron Plaza Hotel in Los Cristianos. This has been closed down by the authorities. This happened towards the end of May, offices now for rental.
Certainly has made a difference when one walks through the centre near to the church, it's sheer bliss.

Bad news.
New ones outside where Chicagos was, on the beachfront.

Bye-line, Chicagos has now closed and the lease is up for sale.

Just back on Monday from a week in LC and have to say apart from market day on Sunday we never encountered any time share touts at all. All the usual hotspots, including Chicagos, were vacated. One day we walked all the way from the market end of LC, along Las Vistas beach to the shopping centre and up into the Safari centre and never saw one tout. Maybe just lucky, but pleasantly surprised.

I agree with everything wickedchris has said.

i've been a visitor to tenerife for 20 years!

timeshare touts arent anywhere near as bad as what they were in the 90s....

they used to buzz areound on moped and jump off at every couple, family etc.

The laws are if force they are banned. Seems nobody has told the police.
They have to get the two of you, if one of you keeps on walking they are stuffed.
Dress well and they will not come anywhere near you as they think you are local, dress like the average brit abroad and they will head for you.
A good tan puts them off as again they think either you are local or have been there long enough to know the score.
Live in Tenners 5 months of the year for the last 20 years, they are not as aggressive as they where.

Just tell them you get your holidays free cos you work for Thomson, always works for me :)

If everyone starts doing it then obviously they'll know we're lying but maybe they will get the message that we're not bloody interested!!!

I am sorry but i have to say tenerife is the worst for touts of all the places i have been to,some people on this site should face up to a problem which really damages tenerife as a holiday resort.

well in all the years i have been going to tenerife, they have never been a problem for me.

But maybe my face fits.

Sorry chris i never realised you had bought a timeshare :rofl :rofl :rofl

No problems

my timeshare isn't one that is sold on the street.

And before we bought many years ago, we did plenty of research,

have had many a happy time there, and still do.

Best thing we ever did.

But as for the touts, well they really don't bother me, and i can't for the life of me see why people let them spoil there holiday.

The problem isn't the touts, it is the people that let it be a problem and so call spoil there holiday. :rofl

Have a bit of fun, you know the score they don`t know you know the score.
Play them along a bit then let them down with a bang.
In the early days of living in Tenerife I used to say I`m going home today.
Perhaps they don`t bother us because they see us everyday.
9 out of 10 don`t last above a few weeks, when there money runs out they are on the plane back home.
They survive by renting an apartment and up to six dossing down but they still fail, it`s only the company that makes the millions.
Don`t let it spoil your break that you deserve just laugh.

We stayed in July, and had quite a big problem with them, however we are their target audience, a family! We found that if some of us walked seperate, they didnt even look at us! It was just in key areas though, they wernt just roaming round everywhere!

Like others have said though, I will not let it ruin my holiday, and I will definitly be returning!

As for the Algarve, we went last year, in August, Peak Season, to Albufiera and didnt get hasseled once! We walked up and down the strip, and around it, and to and from our hotel on a daily basis, and we didnt even see a tout!
