Having just come back last Tuesday (12/08), the scallywags seem to be back out in force again. As I was staying in the Bouganville, there always seemed to be 6-8 of them in front of the San Eugenio Shopping Centre trapping families trying to take a break from the heat. Always spread out across entrance so you could'nt sneak through.
As the missus was on crutches though (Op back home), I walked ahead through the cordon and into Mercadona and she followed along 30 seconds later. We would then walk out together with our shopping knowing that they would'nt target you then.
They were still gobby to anyone who turned them down. By the end of the 2 weeks, I was gagging to have a go just to get a hook in place then laugh as I waved bye bye
I was back in july there, what a differance there was hardly any touts ! well done to whoever got rid of them.
Just as in England where we have a law for just about every possible crime there is, criminal or civil, the police seem to ignore 9 out of 10 crimes, it`s just the same here in Tenerife.
The laws are in force, they can be arrested and charged, it`s the same lack of will as in England, they can`t be bothered.
If you complain about the actions of a particular tout they will be questioned and possibly arrested.
If you can provoke one of them to take a swing at you they will definately be taken away (cant say what will happen to them) but they will definately be put in the back of a police car.
A friend of mine who has a short fuse and couldn`t cope took a swing himself at the particular tout who had been winding him up all week (could have been something to do with the tout calling him a fat ugly b-----d) and did make a mess of him. The police arrested the tout to his relief.
This by the way is not a recommendation.
I still say don`t let it bother you, treat it as a bit of a laugh, honestly you can.
Most of them don`t last many weeks and are back home, their dreams in tatters.

While it's true that they are still here, they aren't quite the high-profile pest of the past, in Los Cristianos at least. They seem to confine their activities to one or two selected areas now, mostly around Las Vistas beach and the Sunday market. I think there are more around PDLA though, judging by the number I saw recently around the Palm Beach area.
We were over in June and there were still loads of them about, saw the police moving a few on.What really annoys me is my husband stops and talks to them and I just walk on and have to wait on him and they say woman can talk:-))Seriously though I wouldnt let them spoil my holiday a no thanks seems to do the trick!
It`s facing the back of the Compestella Beach Complex.
I think it`s the end office upstairs on the Safari Center, that`s the Monkey Bar end.
They did one of those hidden cameras on a TV programme recently, some reporter supposedly applying for a job with them. That was from that office. I don`t know if any one saw it but the interviewers where really bad.
Go and trip them up as they come down the stairs. Joking

In 2007 i was staying in the torviscas/adeeje area which was crawling with the scumbags but this year i stayed at parque de la paz.this end seemed to be nearly clear of the vermin,i thought the whole resort had be cleansed of them but going by some posts they are still out in force in some parts.
The think that is sad is that we are all saying "don't let it spoil your holiday". On holiday you should not have to try to enjoy yourself or not let things bother you. No wonder Tenerife is suffering from decreasing numbers, thats with lowcosts airlines too!
So you can have a lovely peacefull day and on some cracking beachs.
Agree with the last post though, you shouldn`t have to avoid certain areas.
Bahia Del Duque beach is superb you will never see a tout there, the security guards from the hotel would sort them out sharply.
Answer them in Russian or Norwegian, you can soon learn a few words, that`s all it takes.

just returned yesterday. We stayed in the Torviscas area where we have stayed several times before. I would say that we saw about 50% less than usual. So, it wasn't as bad, but still enough of them to be really annoying, we just don't stop.
We returned yesterday after a stay at parque de la paz.
just to let you know they have crawled back out of the woodwork just this week in pdla and other resorts
But i know that some people are put off by them.
But if you want hassle, then all you have to do is go to turkey, and as a female believe me it is non stop.
I can cope with the pr's running along side you trying to sell you a timeshare.
But what i hated about turkey was the constant hassle and touching by the turkish waiters and shopowners.
Plus the topless dancing by the waiters, when you dont' want it is a bit of putting.
Roll on 6 weeks and i'm back on the reef.
We're going to Tenerife for the first time in Dec for 3 weeks and didn't realise that there was still a problem with these pests there. They are a pain in the neck, we experienced them on Costa del Sol/Blanca but had no problems in Ibiza or Majorca. We found the best way is to give them a rude reply in spanish, we speak it but just learn a few words - they won't understand but get will get the message!!
If so, I cannot wait till it happens in Las Americas,
What's the story Rory?

Billyboy.
hi yeh we where in tenerife 2 weeks ago staying in fanabe but went down los cristanos a few times and did not see any along the front or in town but there where loads still in fanabe
Aparently after speaking to the chef in macks bar near las vistas beach there not aloowed pr's anymore also there not allowed advertising boards out either, only the one with the menu on, but there were stilland few bars/ restrauants with the boards out and pr's but no where near as many that when i was there in March, this was all due to the change in the mayor in Arona.
Long overdue.
I holiday in Palm Beach Club. There are maybe 4 p.r's on the front near the Greek restaurent for different places. As I go to the beach everyday, I am asked in the morning, if I want beakfast. At lunch time if I want lunch or a beer. In the afternoon if I want a coffee. In the evening do I want dinner. At night time do I want a drink? This is 5 or 6 times everyday for weeks.
Makes me want to vomit!
Billyboy.
I have just got back to the UK and on my return flight I got talking to 2 people who I sat next to on the plane and it turned out that they were Time share touts. After slanging them off they told me that if any touts get caught in Los Cristianos they get an instant €2000 fine if they don't pay then they are taken straight to prison until fine is paid. They still operate in Las Americas as this is under a different council. Los Cristianos is Arona and Americas is Adeje. They did say that the Adeje will be enforcing this rule soon (fingers crossed). I was also told that Bar and Restaurant PR's are only aloud to approach people within 10 Mtrs of premises and not allowed to follow people down street.
Been in lC for a month and have not seen a tout (arona) as has been said. Herew til March.
