Si will it be a constuction site when we arrive next May :?

I was in Larnaca in May and it looks as though the new terminal is away from the existing one,in departures there is limited food Burger King and not much else.

So is the airport really basic at the moment. The most basic airport I have ever come across is Reus in spain, is it as bad as this then?
Reply
Larnaca airport is not basic, it is just too small to cope with amount of traffic. The new airport site is a long way from the buildings now being used so there is no construction nearby!

Sorry carolh, I dont know which airports you frequent but for an international airport Larnaca is worse than basic.

what do you define as 'worse than basic'? It isn't that bad, just small

We flew to Malta from Cyprus very recently and for a much smaller island than Cyprus - the Luqa airport is fabulous!

Numerous places to choose to eat at, an outside terrace and a pleasant looking airport to boot :D

Larnaca is quite poor in comparison but saying that - compare Larnaca to Paphos and you may as well compare a conservatory with a cattle shed :(

However, once the renovations have been done let's hope we see some changes.

The airport in Larnaca is just too small to be able to provide the necessary services for the number of passengers that frequent it. Other than that - it does the job, just!

Paphos - well, that's another story.... One day though, when the work is finished - you never know!

I'll describe Reus, then you can tell me how it compares.
Arrivals, 1 carousel working, 1 not. We landed straight after two planes and we had to queue on tarmac before we could enter carousel area so other two flights could get there luggage. It was really crammed.
Departures,Check in desks, 6, but if you check in by the window you have to make your way through the other queues to get to departure lounge which is also where you board from too, one huge room for all flights, a bit like a barn with glass doors. Hardly any decent duty free shops at all.

Please say it's better than that :?

It's a lot better than that! Lots of check in desks, but there can be queues on busy days in the midst of the holiday season.
Restaurant facilities both before and after security and passport control, a decent duty free shop and a couple of others, and separate waiting areas at each gate.

Thanks carolh, that sounds better then Reus.
We are travelling on a Sunday am so don't know if this is a busy time or not, at least we can purchase food

There are 2 busy days at Larnaca and Sunday is one of them sorry!!

I've been to Reus 4 times :( , and to Larnaca once last year. Reus was really small and you have to be quick if you wanted a seat in departures, it's like sitting in a big green house. It's also so slow to check in.
Where Larnaca although it's small, old and busy, it does the job much better. :D

If you can - when travelling to Cyprus

Avoid Weds & Sun at all costs. They are our airports busiest days when the majority of the charter flights arrive.

We used to book my stepson with BA flying Manchester to Paphos on Monday. Sheer bliss

Going back - hardly any queue to speak of at all. We could get his bags out of the truck, be checked in, watch him through passport control and be heading back on the highway home inside 30 minutes.

The only problem was, there was nothing on the departures side (not airside) to sit and have a drink or something to eat. Otherwise, we would have waited at the airport with him until about 40 minutes before the flight was due to depart :(

At least with Larnaca airport, it is actually possible to be able to do this.

There is now a small cafe and tables outside at Paphos airport, so it is possible to sit with people you are seeing off before they go through passport control.

Thanks Carole,

Looks like things are finally looking up for us after all

We always tell people to choose Paphos airport as we are slightly closer to it than Larnaca plus, it's smaller and less chance of anyone getting lost if travelling alone!

But, it's always been a real let down when taking them back for flights home as there was nothing there to do except wave bye bye. And - if there was a delay, what a bummer!

We usually head along back up the road a little way to the beach bar

Well hopefully by mid evening it shouldn't be that busy...........should it :? :?
Not bothered as long as it's not like the Reus greenhouse (had to laugh, that's it down to a T  )

Hi bedazzledaz,
Go and try and you will see 2no desks on Immigration when leaving, can take over 1hour to clear, this is an International Airport, not just for charter flights. On 13 May only a Burger King for hot food stood 20mins for a meal and its not the busy time yet.

I've lost count of the amount of times i've been through Larnaca airport and only once I can recall it being a problem, but then i'm sure i've complained more about Gatwick

We leave for Cyprus at 6pm on the Wednesday getting us into Larnaca airport around 1am. What will the airport be like at this time?

And of course we have a late flight back, think we will be at the airport from around 11pm Wednesday again is the airport likely to be quieter at this time?
