One last tip (I promise) and I think someone has mentioned this before
but on occasion if you don't make it clear that you want a gap - your main course sometimes appears while you are still enjoying your starter.
You end up with a whole table full of food at the same time - as Grandma in the kitchen is expecting a rush or has turned into Finkounda's equivalant of Gordon Ramsey!!
I'm sure if you explained when giving your order this would be sorted
but we heard a couple of uptight fellow travellers explode because they had not finished their courgettes first! Its all part of the charm of the place and quite honestly if this type of thing upsets certain visitors then perhaps they are more in need of a relaxing holiday than they thought!
House red wine is sometimes served chilled! but for some reason
after a glass or two - you don't seem to mind, home made varities of Rose and White seem more popular in that region but you can always pick something off the branded wine list which are still reasonable.
Hope everyone has a lovely time - just relaxing - PERFECT!!
We'll be there 1st May in Kosmar's Sonia apartments - does anyone know these? Is there likely to be much open first week of the season - or any festivities going on when we arrive, as I know it's Greek Easter Sunday?
regarding the beaches I know the village beach has no sunbeds but do the others and is it far to walk to the other beaches. Can you buy sunloungers anywhere (i know you can get mats and brollies)
The sonia apartments are mentioned on Holidays uncovered and sound lovely. Lucky you!!!!!!
never travelled with Kosmar before so first time this year hopefully I wont be dissapointed..........
But I'm not sure you would want to take more than one up to the big beach every day! We set off with a couple of beach mats, a lilo, 2 bottles of water and a couple of good books and felt like pack mules!!! various blow up lilos can be found in the little shops from basic to downright luxury models if you don't want sand everywhere/anywhere? be careful as they sometimes take off in the beeze so make sure you weight them down before going for a dip. Shop owners who sell you lilos are happy to re-inflate if they go down during your stay - maybe take a punture repair kit (just in case)
There is a hotel up the road which has sunbeds but we never made it there
too busy relaxing!
We found the best way to the big beach was along the new tarmac road then first left along a little lane - we did try coming home up and over the hill through the village houses but it was very steep and cobbled plus if you have all this gear and wear flip flops it's probably best to take the most direct route which is not the most interesting. We reckon it took about 8 -10 minutes (strolling) to walk there but always took about 40 to get back as we stopped for an ice cold beer at the camp site bar on the return leg. Well its hard work doing nothing isn't it
Thank you for all the info, brilliant. Just one last thing Did you notice anyone fishing Do you think it may be worth packing a fishing rod
octopus!! The resturant with the fridge out the front either has a boat or access to one and every week they go out (not sure where) and come back with a huge great fish (again not sure what variety) which is carried up the beach and then put in the fridge for diners!! perhaps you could cadge a lift on their fishing expedition. Just getting chatting to them I think they had connections with Southampton!!!
Make sure you don't go out with the guy who has a tiny boat who when
he returns plays his music (Greek traditional very lound while cleaning his fish) he looks like he has a bottle of ouzo for breakfast!
Village beach sandy!! Just type Finikounda into your search engine -click on images and lots of pics pop up!!!
There are some photos of the beach on here:
Going To Stoupa 29th May has anybody any idea about Stella apartments?
Neil, for info on all things Stoupa, search or ask on here:
try holiday uncovered I am sure those apartments are mentioned on there
Incidently, has anyone travelling with Kosmar had their airline and flight changed, bit of a nuisance to say the least!!
I know the flights have definately changed flight times from Manchester - jus waiting to see if they have changed again, since I phone Kosmar a couple of weeks ago!
We have travelled with Kosmar for years and the flights always get changed! The road round to Stoupa is very bendy and you have to go right up the penninsular and back down again it takes about 2 1/2 hours
We're flying out on 1st with Excel and back a week later with Air Scandic. The flight out has been changed from 4 hours to 5 and a half hours. We were told by Kosmar that it will be stopping somewhere (possibly Zakynthos), so I assume they've consolidated a couple of flights.
Roll on a week on Sunday
This is a great place to we went there last October. A bit like Greece was 25 years ago unspoilt the locals are very friendly and serve very good home cooked food and they is no sun lounges on the beach
Would recommend.
We're off there on Sunday, not to this hotel, but will report back on the resort - no more work for a week
This is an old thread, I'm going to Zante now instead.
