Flight Only / Airline and Airports

The restrictions at Gatwick apply at the security checks. That is where you need to produce your little plastic bag with liquids in the prescribed size bottles atc (full details elsewhere). Anything you buy in the airside shops once past security and passport control (liquids, food, small fluffy gonks, overpriced electrical goods etc) can be taken on to the aircraft.

Hi

Am I right in thinking that there are only 2 hotels the Sofitel & Hilton, that are actually part of Gatwick terminal and you wouldn't require a bus / taxi transfer from the terminal buildings to your hotel.

Flying in to the South terminal and flying to Egypt out of the North terminal and vice versa on the return.
Last time we did this the plane was delayed, and trying to get to our hotel which was only a few miles from the airport was horrendous, so we have decided just to stay within the terminal at one of the hotels.

Any info much appreciated

That is correct. Those are the only two hotels actually "connected" to the terminals. There are a wide selection of "off-airport" hotels in the vicinity which can be reached by hotel bus; and very near to the North terminal is a budget hotel (can't recall the name).

I have read that the Premier Inn Gatwick central is 'walkable' to the North Terminal - not connected though.

Kiltman, the Premier Inn is walkable to the North Terminal, but there are 36 steps that you have to carry your cases up to get to the terminal, there is a shuttle bus that costs about £2.50

I've stayed at the Hilton and the Sofitel recently and both are good and obviously covenient, but they are costly , take a look on http://www.holidayextras.co.uk they had the best price when i was looking last time. There is a free transit train link between the North and South and it takes about 5 mins which includes the wait.

I don't know how long you will be at Gatwick but there is now a Yotel right in the South Terminal - I think these might be for more of a short stay though rather than a whole night - might be worth looking into though.

Is it still possible to park in the short-term car park for a few (probably about ten) hours and catch a train into London?

if you dont need to go to the airport then you can catch the train from Brighton or park in three bridges and get the train from there

Hi Wiz

Unfortunately the last train back to Brighton from Victoria (just after midnight...see my posts in UK, London thread) could be too early for us so we need to park at Gatwick to guarantee we're not left stranded at Victoria! :yikes

Hi, there are later trains with First Capital connect, if you can get to London Bridge or Blackfriars. Tonyt

Thanks Tony

I think we've pretty much decided to park at Gatwick and get return train tickets from there to Victoria to keep it simple!

We are flying from Gatwick in August and I have been looking at this forum for help with a car parking company. I can see Tudor Rose has been popular and I wondered if anyone had used them recently and it was still good, also if anyone had used Help Me Park?
Thanks in advance

Hi!

We have used Tudor Rose 3 times and had absolutely no problems. The last time being in January this year. They do a couple of different packages. You can either drive to their car park and a driver goes with you to the airport and then drives your car back to the car park - on your return the driver meets you at airport and you simply return him back to the depot. We always use the meet and greet where you are met at the terminal on both arrival and return.

They are superb value for money and mileage is always checked and signed for on arrival and return. The car is always clean although this last time there was a little birds mess on it but of course that can't be helped. Friends of ours who are extremely fussy have also used them and were very impressed.

I would highly recommend that you use them.

Just had a quick look at help me park and I could not find anywhere on the website that told you where they were. I would be a little dubious about this. They also seem to be considerably more expensive.

Tudor Rose are very open about where they are and where your car goes.

Many thanks Pippa and big apologies for taking a while to reply but for some reason I couldn't get on to Holiday Truths to be able to do it! I feel easier about booking Tudor Rose now and will have a look at their website again.

Hi poley . we always use APH at gatwick . they offer a good price ,excellent service and an easy transfer in nice coaches . takes about 10 mins to airport . they save a secure carpark and your car is always waiting out front of reception on your return. I find the best deal comes via http://www.holidayextras.com and you can also book this via quidco if you use them for some further moneyback. you will get a much better price if you book early . at least 4 weeks before.
