Hi, just got back from my honeymoon at the gran ventana and have to say it was great. The best rooms are in the Beata block by far and as for the quiet pool beocming shaded I really didn't notice any. The sun was roasting it was lovely. Their has just been a new law passed in DR that you can only purchase alcohol on Thursday, Friday and Saturday and I guess this really had an effect on the disco next door. We never heard any noise from it for the entire two weeks we were there. Oh and if you are in that block I would stay there as it is mainly couples and there are very few families as they are over watching the pretty dreadful entertainment. However, many a good evening was spent under the company of Ramiro in the Tiki bar by the quiet pool and you'll find you meet some real characters there. As for the rooms being refurbed I didn't see any indication that this was likely. But frankly I couldnt complain about them apart from the hobbit sized bath tub. At 6'3 it was showers all the way. Apart from that I really thought the rooms were very nice. Hope that helps.

When we were at the Gran Ventana, their was no signs of it refurbished, but was advised that it should happen some time next year. As for the blocks that have sea view, would either be Saona or Catolina block, and boths these blocks are by the main pool, we were in the Catolina block, and had no problems and no complaints, the room are kept clean everday. Unable to comment about the quite pool, as we never went over that side, prefered going to the beach. Feel free to ask if you have any more questions, sure you will have a lovely time.

Looking forward in going, 4 months to go....
Nearer to the time I may email the hotel and ask for a specific building to stay in, unsure which one to choose from.
We would like a sea view if possible with only booking a standard room, would also like to be near entertainment and not miles away from the beach and whatever goes on around me...nosey

I have 9 months 'til we return! We re-booked last night... Gran Ventana! 4th June 2007 Can't wait!!!

We have just booked to stay here in Dec 2006. What block/room would people recommend, particularly for a sea view so we can try and email the hotel directly. Ta muchly

I am going to email the hotel and ask for a room in Saona or Catolina building, think I might have a better chance to have an ocean view.

its done, it was completed last month, although its not pure white like the carribean side, it is whiter than it was.

okay guys- review is done. i'm sure i've missed loads, but just too much to tell, so if there is something yo need to know just ask. also dont have the room we did. 2201 in catalina unless you like roll on, roll off beds

kazzee, you will def have a better chance with saona or catalina- beata doesnt have an ocean view its at the front of the hotel. you wont be disappointed with the hotel

what did you take for gifts?just pencils?

hi travel agetn- yes we did go to ocean world, but we did the encounter which was fantastic it costs $100 - you wont get it any cheaper as the price is set be them, this includes you lunch ,but no drinks, and your return transfers, there are return coaches at 10.30 and 12.30 as well as your normal allocated drop off. the phots etc aren't too dear. we also did the monster truck safarai, horse riding, fishing and went into puerto plata and various diff areas and went througha haitian village-very upsetting.
take lots and lots of pencils, paper, crayons, girlie stuff(bobbles) boys stuff (carsetc), sweets, cheap flip flops(if you can find them). just lots and lots of everything hoard the toiletries you get in your room.
if you email the hotel , make sure you follow it up with another one just before you go. if you tell the hotel when you check in you are celebrating a birthday they may arrange extras for you. but also if you go to ocean world let the coach rep know and they may do something also. a littl girl had a b'day and they arranged a sea lion encounter for her.

i think its started, they wee doing some work when we were there at end of oct. but there are a lot of rooms and they do work in dominican minutes but hey you dont go until may so you never know
