hi we went to zante last year airport was okay on arrivals it was departures you could not move and they kept letting people through make sure you got water with you we had to wait outside in middle of day there are canopys but it was very hot .The island is wonderfull and the people are lovely we have been a couple of times so really i suppose you can put up with airport would go back tomorrow
So was just wondering what does everyone bring back from their Greek holiday?
We always try & fit in a few bottles of wine, especially the Retsina which has a stronger flavour than what can be bought here
Also I love to bring back some Greek herbs E.g oregano, mixes for Tzatziki as they are very cheap & it brings back a little memory/taste of this fab country
And of course that doesn't take into account the clothes that I inevitably buy and which when I get home realise are not as cool as I thought when I was there!!
Any other things I should buy? What do you bring bacK?
Hi glad to see some new posts we go to greece every year just love the islands and the people . Last year we went to Crete didnt buy much then ,the year before was Zante had to leave my new beach towels at hotel .no room for them we hired a car and went to the villages in the mountains the rugs and lace were fantastic and what made it better was you had to barter with the locals we had a great day and the local produced wine was lovely so needless to say my suitcases were loaded with rugs lace hand made cushions the villages are not to be missed
Came back from Corfu 3 weeks ago. Brought back Ouzo, Metaxa and herbs for feta cheese. Scampi, you will love the greek food. Lamb kleftica is my favourite and yes, it is a Greek speciality and to be found in almost all of the restaurants. Other favourites with my husband and myself are gyros, souvlaki (chicken kebab), beef stifado (beef stew cooked with minature onions), moussaka and of course greek salad with feta and olives. Going back to Greece (santorini) in 9 weeks. Can't wait!
Hi scampi! All Greek food is heavenly. Try Tzatsiki as a starter. The lambKleftiko usually comes baked in foil in a clay oven. Beef Stifado (a type of stew) is divine and their Gouros(a type of kebab meat) is stunning. They also serve chicken pieces on a skewer but for the life of me I can't remember what it's called. We spend hours around the pool discussing where and what we're going to eat that evening - it's all part of the holiday. Their retsina (sweet desertwine) is delicious. For something with a bit more kick a tall glass of Ouzo with lemonade ooooooooo! Can't wait. Been to Kos twice and Zakynthos twice and off to Santorini in 64days time. Happy hols!

What keeps me going back and trying new places is:- The locals, certainly the friendliest of any European resorts. The value initially, although they seem to have caught up with our prices since the Euro. The sun, usually guaranteed. Great Beaches, unlike say Tenerife. Food and culture fantastic.
Favourites so far are Lindos, beautiful resort and always seems to be red hot, and Malia Crete. Has a poorish reputation amongst the 'older' set but the old town has some great traditional bars and restaurants, you dont need to visit the 'strip' if its not to your taste and if you do venture there you are really made to feel welcome.

Hi Everyone, I can only re-iterate what everyone is saying about the Greek Islands. I first started going to Greece in 1969 firstly to the mainland, Athens, Delphi etc and I can honestly say since then I have been a confirmed Grecophile. The Greek people are the most loveliest people in Europe, welcoming, happy, and genuine. Their country ranges from stunningly beautiful mountains in Crete, to the lush hills of Corfu and Halkidiki. I have been to Halkidiki (1) Kos (6) and going again in August, Crete (4) Corfu (1) Kalymnos (1) The food is terrific, fresh fish, Kleftiko lamb, Saganaki, Kalamares with Greek Salad the easy going laid back attitude, of all the countries in Europe I truly relax on the Greek islands and recommend anyone to visit.
After many years trying spain/Canarys I found what I have been looking for we have spent the last 6 years Island Wandering.
This year its Skiathis Paros Naxos Los And only 4 days to go
Happy holidays to all
