My wife and I love Acharavi in Corfu. It was our 5th greek island as we were going to visit as many as we could before getting too ill to travel any more. Got a cheapo hol and arrived in Acharavi and we always have our June holiday here now every year. We have also been in September a couple of times, indeed we had our honeymoon here in September 2004. What we love about Greek holidays is the friendlyness and openness of the people, their lovely family way of life, the food and of course the enjoyable Ouzo. We now have many friends in Acharavi of many nationalities and I am known in the eastern end as Peter Pan. We always travel independantly by booking an apartment with a local travel agent in Acharavi, then look for a decent flight. This is our version of heaven. May it last for many years yet.

Dave,

You and your wife sound inspiring. I am taking my husband to Kos in May we have booked the Bahamas hotel as the reviews for this small and friendly hotel sound wonderful wonder if we will end up going back? I hope hubby enjoys its.
It must be wonderful to travel independently, but I have had no luck at all finding flights! any tips from the master  ? So are you back to Corfu in June and do you stay in the same hotel?

We are due to go to Samos on 31st May but I have broken my arm just below the shoulder so I'm hoping and praying that it has healed by then so we don't have to cancel, by the way, typing with your left hand takes ages!

if you are worried about the flight JUST make sure you get a letter from your doctor/surgeon clearly stating you are FIT TO FLY or you wont be let on the aircraft [and keep a copy at home and one separate to the master when you go on holiday

Oh, I just assumed I wouldn't be allowed to go if it hadn't healed. It's not in plaster as the break is too high on the arm, I just have it in a collar and cuff.
If I had any problems whilst out there I don't suppose I'd be covered by my insurance would I?

Our son broke his collarbone just 3 days before our flight, as the Wizard says our insurers insisted on a letter from the consultant confirming he was fit to fly. Your arm should be fine by then, any problems should have shown up before the end of May. I would however give the waterskiing a miss at least for the first few days!!!

the Greco-Roman wrestling wont do it much good either

i forgot about insurance you will need to inform them and either accept you will not be coved should anything happen to it or pay a premium..

if needed DO NOT use the local doctor or clinic it will cost a bomb use your European health card at the nearest national hospital/clinic

Ha ha! Such a shame, the water skiing and wrestling are an integral part of the holiday don't you think?
Never mind, will have to laze around the pool with a Mythos or two instead.

Hi all,

As you can see by my previous post I have only 15 sleeps to go before we are off to Kos :hyper

I have had a quick look at the forum to see if any one has ever asked the question - is Kos still seismically active? Does it still have tremors and if so what do they reach on the Richter Scale.

Thank you.

Info on any tremors or activity can be found on The USGS web site just look for Europe and it shows you all the most recent tremors etc and a map showing where.
Dont worry too much!

What do I like about Greece, where do I start, it could be the food, the ouzo, the weather, the people, the scenery. I think its just a magical place, no island is the same. I like to chill out for my yearly fortnight and can't think of a better place to do it.

Bunny the whole of the eastern European area borders on to the middle eastern area where the tectonic plates move regularly most of Greece and Turkey have several tremors a week but most are unnoticed as they are so slight, so no need to even think of them,
