Far East

How about serviced apartments. I've never used them in Hong Kong but have in other parts of the Far East. You often get two or three bedroom apartments and the ones I've stayed in have been as luxurious (if not more so) than a hotel.

Thanks for that Sunbear, I'll look into it tonight.

I think Sunbear has your best option. Hong Kong rooms are usually very small.

Thanks Sunbear / Fiona

Looked into service apartments, but for the short stay of 3-4 days in HK (visiting family in Singapore) I didn't have much joy.
Contacted Holiday Inn Express, who said they could accommodate us. I know they tend to be very basic with no frills, does anyone have any experience? I'll have to check the hotel reviews to see if it's featured. I wonder how small their rooms are, you mentioned they tend to be very small in HK?

I did come across YMCA which features a family room, but was working out more expensive, money I would rather spend on exploring & shopping than creatue comforts.

Thanks again

The YMCA in Hong Kong is an amazing place- it even has an olympic sized swimming pool and has fantastic views as well as right on the harbour, across from the Star Ferry

I stayed in the Peninusla last September (we're not usually that posh but were having a splurge at the end of a 3 week holiday :) ) and honestly if I went back to HK we'd stay in the Salisbury YMCA - it's practically next door and has the same views across the harbour. I think it's a bargain.

Have you considered interconnecting rooms? Most hotels have them. Hotels can be a real pain for families of more than 1 child!

I can't think of any hotels in HK that have family rooms - they gear more towards doubles as most hotels alternate between business & leisure travellers.

And i'd get moving - as an idea, in 2006 4&5 star hotels averaged occupancy of 98%, will be similar for 2 & 3 star!
