Well the last two weeks went quick!!
Flew out with First choice on the Monday flight from Manchester, left on time and was comfortable with extra leg room. Food was, I thought a bit lower standard than previous meals but it filled a hole.
Arrived in Dabolim a few minutes early and was amazed to get from the aircraft to the taxi in.......20 minutes!!
A quick transfer to the Siver sands in Candolim and was in the room straight away. We had booked a superior room and was pleasantly surprised by the standard and the size of the room. Previously we have stayed at the phoenix park and have been satisfied, so we were a bit doubtfull of the silver sands but have to say we found it superior to the Phoenix in every way. (excepting the pool which we don't use anyway)
And of course it is much nearer the beach!
The staff in particular were very friendly.
I have some pics of the room which I will upload later when I do the hotel report.
As in the past we used Monicas shack most of the time, meeting old friends there but towards the end of the fortnight we switched to Bonos as we got really tried of the struggle up to the shack from the beach where the sand has been washed away.
Bonos must have the best beach toilets in candolim , two for ladies and two for men, all tiled floors with proper toilets and sinks etc.
Also a tiled shower area, all cleaned repeatedly through the day.
Once again we promised ourselves that we wouldn't just sit on the beach for two weeks... once again we did just that
We did notice this year that the Russians did have an effect on our hols, in the past I have had no problems with them but this year we did find them a nuisance in a couple of bars we used.
In particular one night in Calangute when we went to listen to our friend sing at the hotel she entertains at, the computer she uses for backing started to play up, two young Russians went to "help" sort it out and in doing so managed to load it with russian rock music so that they could dance and so they took over the music for the night.(management didn't want to know)
After the various posts on here about tourists being driven away by the visa rules I was amazed at the number of Goa virgins I met, all of whom claim they will be back next year.
The shacks at the bottom end of Candolim beach (river princess area) have banded together and hired security to keep the beach sellers etc away from the shacks which is a bit of a double sided coin as part of the fun is the banter with the sellers even though they can be a pest and there seemd to be fewer sellers on the rest of the beach.
As there have been a few bad delays this year and the weather has been bad in the UK we decided to return to the airport on the bus in case of flight delays etc.... a bad mistake.
the buses may LOOK better now than they used to but believe me they are not! Dirty, smelly, and slow. Never again!!
Anyway, bed calls now, I will do a hotel report in the next day or so.
I still love the place for all of its faults!

Good to see you had a great time Del im really happy about all you said about silver sands we really like it there roll on next Feb to its our time to go ...in the mean time only 9 days to we go to Calangute .. We will call in to silver sands and say hello to the staff colleenI still love the place for all of its faults!
Welcome home Del, glad you still love Goa I stayed at the Silver Sands a couple of years ago and like you say the pool is rubbish , but we don't use it either, I was more than happy with the hotel and would stay there again.
good to hear yet another good holiday has been had
Nice report del, especially the last sentence
Did you try Lawrencio's Shack? Their toilets are the excact same as Bonos - absolutely immaculate in every way. The only difference is they dont overcharge you for the luxury of using a nice toilet. This time I am also going to try Bayview Shack, because ive heard theyre toilets are just as good as well.
Glad you enjoyed Silver Sands, if you like Candolim, then its in an absolutely fantastic location.
Looking forward to hearing some more about your holiday
I agree Gemma... we'll be using Lawrencios in 3/4 days time!! AND we're staying at SS!!
Lozzo if you see me at Lawrencios come and say hello we will be going next week so think we will over lap you on some of the holiday ..We will have our blue HT bands on plus there is a photo of us in the photo part of the forum so one way or the other you will see us there
P.s.there is also a picture of me in the Candolim file of the Goa pictures...but not much use to you seeing as it's sunset and you can't see my face!
Russian Rock!!!! Why didn't your friend stop the russian music from playing???
If some thing isn't done about the behaviour of certain Russians, Goa will eventually regret ever welcoming them with open arms.
The Russians was one of the reasons I stopped going to Egypt. I hope the same doesn't happen to Goa.
I also love the little row of shops at the bottom of beach road, they have everything you need - and if its not to hand they will whizz off to get it for you.
Ahhh - happy days
Lovely report glad you had a great time. We are off next week and will try Bonos shack.
That was a good read, nice to hear that there are still newcomers, who find Goa to their liking. It's made me look forward all the more to returning soon.

put this link on my hotel report but it won't work owing to copyright reasons.
just a few pics of the rooms at Silver Sands
only reason for doing pics this way is that they will be swamped on Goa pics, hope it's OK with Mods.

Thanks for posting some of your photos Del. Good sized rooms. Does it cost a lot more for a superior room?
I seem to have a memory of the figure £250 extra for two weeks but am not sure.
It about 250 pounds gems extra for the bigger rooms Gems I am fine with the smaller rooms above the pool that way I can got 250 pounds with the coffee the way I see it is we are out all day and out all night so we only need the room for a shower and a bed for the night ...colleen
hi roxey, the dog was probably raju - he was mostly in our room when we were there. I liked Silver Sands, good location and the pool was ok.
The new dog has to be kept away from customers as it is a bit "excitable"!
what is it with us Brits, we go on holiday and make friends with all the dogs, cows and other assorted animals we trip over?
we even had a pet lizard (Lawrence) in our bathroom.
Yes Raju the dog (black and white....well actually more sort of black and pink because of the dust)!! Bless him... I think we only paid an extra £80 pp for superior rooms.
