got back on tues (back to work too, hence delay in report) from a fantastic holiday and we are now truly Goa converts
Flew with First Choice and as always great flight, great planes ,no hassel. Goa airport ,nowhere near as bad as I was led to believe (both arriving and leaving) don't no if we were just lucky, but I find the USA far worse.Stayed in the Marinha Dourada room 231 in the annex. Great hotel. lovely views, great staff and just that bit out of all the mayham of Baga (which we loved by the way) Anyway have to say we will be back to Goa as soon as we can. Probably stay in the MD again or maybe the Ronil Beach which would just mean not haveing to get taxis all the time.
Had my birthday in East meets West, cake, balloons real fuss etc what a great night and a lovely bottle of Portugeuse red for 550 r (hard to get nice wine, at a decent price) Other resteraunts visited were, Souynemans Kitchen (from recomendations on here) fantastic food at a really good price,Fillet steak
we went there twice and told many guests at the hotel who also went several times. I 95,(most expensive) food was nice, but I thought it was a bit overpriced for what you got compared to others visited. All Spice, our biggest disappointment, waited about 40 mins for a table and I have to say we had eaten better curries on the beach (St Anthonys, Chicken Tikka Masal,Oceanic ,Pork Vindaloo ) Another favourite was Alfresco just opposite All spice. The food was gorgeous, I had beef wih rosemary, mash and fesh veg it was one of the best meals we had eaten and the owner and staff were fantastic (we also went there several times)Baga beach, well what can you say manic, mad but i loved every minute of it. We didn't go to quiet beaches coz we loved the hustle and bustle of Baga (maybe because it was our first time) Walked down the beach from Candolim to Baga and I have to say Baga seemed the nicest. Calangute by the steps was filthy, rubbish everywhere and a lot of Indian tourists seemed to just walk down the steps, sat were they landed and threw their rubbish on the floor.
anyway as you can gather we had a fantastic time and I got a gorgeuse ring
from Ashoka in Candolim (recomended by Keith) also got some really good quality bags from a shop a few doors down (Ive got the name somewhere if anyone wants it)Can't wait now to see when we can get back, maybe March if we can get a good deal
Thanks to everyone for your help prior to our trip, which made me feel I actually knew where I was going
Debi
