Hi all, just back (Fri 18th Jan) from our first trip to Goa. We flew with My Travel the legroom was adequate but we couldn,t see any tv screens but hey ho. the transfer at Daoblim was ok, we didnt use the courtesy coach we got a couple of taxis (5 in our party) So off we headed for Calangute,we stayed at The Grand formaly(neelams) it has just gone through a major re-furb it's 95% done the entrance is very impressive. My wife & i got room B1 on the ground floor overlooking the pool, very nice 28 in lcd tv in the lounge 20in tv in the bedroom, the only major dissappointment was the lack of any tea /coffee making facilities (a must for us brits ).My daughter/son-in-law/grand daughter were less lucky 3 rooms before they got satifaction.Enough about the accomadation only to say the staff were brilliant .just 50 metres away from the hotel is the candolim/baga road this is total mayhem (but i loved it) how can they drive like that with so few accidents, the cows/dogs/ goats/ water buffalo truly wonderful, once again the people were so friendly.
we tended to eat out all the time even though we had been upgraded to (all inclusive) we used the facility for booze (very nice) we used a variety of beach shacks for day time all were brilliant.the night time i compiled a list from holiday forum & got the grand daughter to blind pick the one for that night.we got to Goa on the 4th Jan the 6th Jan was our daughter Deborah's
40th birthday so that night we had decided to book East Meets West for the Celabration, what a great choice that was the staff all joined in what a triff night.the cost of eating out is amazing Viva Goa 5 of us 1900 Rups inc all booze.the most expensive was Indian spice nearly 5000 rups,Casa Sea Shell was another top spot both for price & service. So as you may have guessed we loved Goa were looking about now to book for next year but maybe at the Baga end of Goa,Please contact me if you need any more info ,or if you can help in my quest for accomadation for 2009.

Sorry i can't help with accomodation in the baga area i usually stay in candolim but on saying that we use the shacks in the baga area, also the odd restuarant.talking of which did you ever go to Lazy days restuarant where a lot of people of this site meet-up for a drink and a chat its on a wednesday night you and the family are very welcome.
If i can answer any questions for you on candolim please feel free to either post on here or pm me.

Sleep_r_us.
Sleeps i think grand is the old silent retreat not far from fish market.
Poulton kid is that by the football ground(fish market) close to snow white laundry or am i in the wrong direction.
When you are at bus station in calangute on candolin baga road, across road there is some tatty shops i think a couple of barbers and some tiny bars, behind them was the silent retreat and silent resort, one of the first hotels i went to,got closed down about six or seven years ago,i think the fish market is on other corner, the hotels where about 300 yrds off road, you would never had seen them unless you went down track
Poultonkid i was in the wrong place miles away in fact.I know where you mean now thanks.
