Firstly thanks to all the people (you know who you are) with all the helpful advice for places to go (or not go) it saved much time hassle and cash.
(This is written from the point of view of 2 mid twenties British lads who like to explore, be active and go drinking, dancing and chat to random people. )
I was having my first visit to my finished apartment built as part of the Dreamville network towards St Vlas. I brought my builder friends with me and he was very impressed with the quality of the finish and the only problem was the shower head which thankfully is now replaced with a superior model.
It was pretty much dead at the complex (us 2 + 6 others) so we had the 2 pools to ourselves and was very relaxing. It was a downhill walk every day to the beach in SB or St Vlas so generally we did that. Vlas was very busy in town every day but the beach was pretty much ours (except for the digger who was flattening the bank).
Transport - beware the cabs, at the sign of the English accent the price was much different to my opening line in French, German, Swedish or even a ropey Bulgarian. You have been warned. Haggling is compulsory; do not be afraid to walk away. We sorted out regular cabbie (nicknamed Berbatov as that was his opening line to us) who would taxi us every night for 10 Lev to the centre of SB. (if you want his number in Sb PM me and I'll sort you out) At about 4am it was even cheaper as they were desperate for work.
We soon worked out the bus was the best way to go - about 1 lev from Vlas all the way through to Nessebar if you need it. You have to time it right though as they were only running every 1.5 hours up to Vlas.
We hired bikes for the last 2 days to go exploring. Only 10 Lev a day from Vlas but could have been cheaper but had had enough haggling by then. The seafront in SB was 3 x as much for bikes and a lot of things so it's worth a little walk if money is an issue. Nessebar was a good afternoon out if you like buildings and scenery. Beyond Vlas were more beautiful beaches that were dead quiet (except for nudists)
We didn't eat out much as like to cook but when we did have one fry up but the beans were cold so not impressed.
Had a 2 steaks and drinks @ Djannys with exceptional service for 50 Lev which was fair for the surrounding and food quality. Would recommend to anyone as it rivals the Gaucho Grill in London for steak for 1/8th of the price.
Nightlife - thankfully for us the German crew had arrived having just finished their A-level equivalent (19-20 yr olds) and were here to let off some steam. If you found them that's where the party was out other wise it was quite quiet.
Didn't have to queue anywhere and free to get in @ this time of year. Drinks in the clubs Lazur and DiscoOrange were 3/4 lev for Vodka coke and less for beer. Only expense was red bull at about 6 lev inside.
Can recommend Bar Mexo for Bulgarian dancing entertainment - Amigos for the bar staff who kept us entertained when it was dead and the karaoke for a good sing along.
On the main pedestrian road (is it called flower street?) the oriental looking upstairs bar opposite McDonalds had a great happy hour 12-5am for cocktails at 6Lev each so that's about a quid for 4 drinks - a good place to start/end the night and watch the world (women) go by.. . . . .
Last year I found much nicer, classier seafront bars further along but all closed or being refurbished at this time of year.
All in all I enjoyed the trip as very relaxing - anyone wants more evening entertainment info let me know . . .
It's always great to read just back reports Glad you had a good time and like your new apartment as well. It's good to hear that there is enough going on early on in the season. Are you planning in going out again this season?
it rained today in England for the first time in about a month
Thanks for the great report, me and my boyfriend (23 and 26) are going first week of July and you've given us some great tips! Cheers x
I enjoyed your report following your recent visit to your new apartment. I am a BG lover and have been going twice a year for the last ten years. We stay in a small family run hotel in Zora village and are good friends with the owners. I am very interested in the details of your new found taxi driver friend....have tried to pm you but I dont have that facility yet. We go 20th June for three weeks.
Thanks a lot for your PM. Will let us know how we get on.
