Wise choice, we did Turkey first, it is great but a lot bigger than the Algarve, probably better for older kids, I suffer from ME and found it to be too much for me but I would have loved it if I was well.
The whole holiday village concept is perfect for families, there is something for everyone.
Have been reading topics since we booked our holiday at HV Algarve and now have a few questions of my own.
Are there any tea/coffee making facilities in the rooms? Hairdryers? And what do people wear in the evenings for meals etc - casual, smart casual?
Thanks
We were in an apartment and there was a kettle and hairdryer. Smart casual was ok for evening, nothing too formal.
We're off to HV Algarve Sunday! Cant believe how quick its come around!
Zoomairne is a fantastic day out, the dolphins are amazing, have a great time

Dunno about the Hotel Rooms in Block 2 but all of the apartments have fully equipped modern kitchens and hairdryers.
I always wore smart casual shorts for evening meal. They suggest that Long Trousers have to be worn but no one does and the First Choice reps said no one ever did either. As long as you weren't wearing swim wear but were dressed smartly with casual style shorts you were okay.
We are thinking of booking HV Algarve for July 2010. Can anyone tell me how long it takes to walk to the nearest shops etc.
Thanks
It's about 25 minutes walk to Praia De Oura if you turn right at the bottom of the hill and about 25 minutes walk to the hypermarket and Olhos De Agua if you turn left at the bottom of the hill.Hi

Thanks for the replies. I will have to go shopping and get a few more clothes for the evenings. What an excuse!!!
We have booked interconnecting rooms so I was wondering what facilities were in these - tea/coffee making etc. And also where are they sited in the hotel?
Are the kids clubs busy? What sort of activities do they offer? I have children of 8, 12 and 15 and was wondering if there was lots to do, especially for the older two.
Thanks
If they did go to wavelength club they would do things like raft building and canooing or water races at the splash park. They have evening chocolate parties and playstation challenge too.
I'm sure they'll have fun if they want to get involved,
Hxx
Thanks - sounds like the children will have fun. Hoping our 8 year old will go to a couple of evening clubs so we can have a drink in peace!!! Anything to do with chocolate will appeal!
Evening club was on every night after Kids Village Time in the entertainment room, ie 9PM until 11PM which meant your kids went to the 9PM kids club you could watch the entertainment etc in peace and pick them up afterwards. The kids club building is about 25 yards from the entertainment room. Thanks - sounds like the children will have fun. Some of the 9PM ones were party ones like the choclate one and they had a small cover fee of approx €5 to buy the sweets etc.
I have booked a 1 bedroomed apartment for August this year can anybody tell me if the apartments are in Block 1 or Block 2?
Also, which Block is around the main pool and if Ground floor apartments are available?
Thanks
We were in an apartment in block one which is around the main pool, there are some ground floor appartments but they open directly onto the pool area. We requested a high up appartment and got one at the back of the hotel overlooking the golf course and nice countryside, it was very quiet and the views are lovely.
Can anyone tell me whether towels are available for the pool/beach?
Also, does anyone know where the interconnecting rooms are located?
Thanks
Not sure about interconecting rooms but you can get towels, can't remember how much but it wasn't a lot (it may even be a deposit) and you can swap them for clean towels as you need them.
Block 2 is a mix of apartments and rooms. The rooms were furthest away overlooking a busy road. Block 2 is lovely and houses the shop, Italian and Portuguese restaurants and has a lovely pool too.

We hit the HV mid August wih our two youngsters. Preferably I'd prefer a low floor room in a quiet part because our youngest is only 17 months and gets grumpy if she's woken during the night ( typical woman ).
Would I be best to email the hotel beofre leaving requesting this ( and would they honour it ) or just ask upon arrival? Any help gratefully appreciated
