Hello Welshbird, can't help you with your post, but just thought I'd say 'hello' from another Welshie. ;)

Hi Welshbird - just send an e mail to the hotel. From past experience I can say that the hotel is very quick to reply to any query - and better to sort it out before you arrive, as the reception staff can be a little unhelpful during the busy periods. i.e. multiple arrivals. Enjoy your break  Jenny

Hi Everyone

Has anyone stayed at the Kanta residence? We have never stayed self catering before, do they still provide towels or should i pack some? also can you buy food and drink from out side the hotel or do you have to purchase goods from them? any info would be appreciated.

We stayed self catering at the Kanta few years ago. There was nowhere to buy food to cook. However we went SC so we could eat out. We upgraded to B&B at the Kanta. Paid for a snack over lunch and then ate out at the Port. Our friends upgraded to HB. The upgrades were quite cheap, and in my opinion well worth it. We got our own bottled water and then decanted it into the bottles provided by the Kanta as the waiters got a bit grumpy. Not sure about using your own food round the pool though. We took our own beach and bathroom towels, I cannot remember if they provided towels in the accommodation.

Hi, although have never stayed at the hotel Kanta on s,c basis I have stayed in several other hotels in P.E.K on half board. We have always been allowed to take in food and drink with no trouble at all. You will find a nice little supermarket just outside the entrance to the marina just up on the right hand side.It sells most things with fresh bread every day, and also right next door is the alcohol supermarket, both of which are very cheap.

Can anyone tell me which would be better value, booking HB or goung S/C and upgrading in resort? I'm not sure what to book. Could you also tell me which is the superior acomodation, the hotel or the S/C apartments?
Thanks Laurence

Laurence we found it better value to book sc and then upgrade to hb in resort.

Thanks for that Bex. Was the food ok there? Is there a good choice of restaurants in P.E.K? The reviews of the hotel seem very mixed don't they? Seems Tunisia is a place you either love or hate.

We are going to the Kanta Hotel in PEK the brochure says the food is by Buffet and waiter service. Can anybody who's stayed there tell me how this works.

Hi,

I haven't stayed at the Kanta but what this usually means is that the first courses/hors d'oevres are buffet service as is the pudding/dessert counter and these tend to offer the same, admittedly wide, range of dishes each night but that main course/entrees are waiter service from a menu that is changed each evening.

Can anyone advise on the food situation at the Kanta? I'm not a part of the burger and chips brigade or spag bol for that matter. Do they do North African food there or is it just poor quality european food?
Cheers Laurence

I am going there in June. I too really hope its not burger and chips. Though I doubt it would be, as the president of Tunisia always stays in this hotel. I am sure he wouldnt be eating burger and chips
and if the hotels good enough for the president of Tunisia its good enough for us:lol:

I chose this hotel as I know people who have been there and loved it and its also no1 in PEK in Tripadvisor. I ll see for myself
And Ill post a very comprehensive review with photos thats a promise
:gluck I am sure the food will be fine. Hopefully with lots of cous cous!!!!
Can't wait :hyper

Hi everyone! My daughter & I stayed at the Kanta last August & had a great time. The food is certainly not burger & chips. There is ample opportunity to try out new foods. Most meals were buffet service with just drinks being served at the table. If I remember correctly on 2 occasions we helped ourselves to starters and deserts and were offered a choice of main meals which were served at the table. You also had the choice of having your main meal at lunch or in the evening.

I know this has been covered before but I am Just wondering how far they have got through redecorating the rooms!! :?: last time time i heard they were on the third floor!! As I have requested a room on the third floor as I have heard they have best view and they may be the first to be redecorated and I hope they will be finished by then!!! Just looking for updates!!! Though I wonder why as I ll be there myself in 4 weeks time
Can t wait :hyper

Hi Helen thanks for your reply, do they do North African food there or is it just things like Spag bol and lasagne. Generally I don't do HB basis because we like eating authentic native cuisine and not the usual stuff you can get at home.

Hi Laurence. There was at least 1 authentic starter and main meal every night, along with the more common things like spag bol. As most of the food is buffet style anyway if you didn't like what you'd chosen you could just keep getting a clean plate and try something else. occassonally some dishes were cooked in front of you. By the way the deserts were divine ooooooooooooo!
