Funnily enough I was just wondering why we don't get many reviews for UK hotels. I know we dont allow reviews from holiday resorts so perhaps folks think that also applies to the UK. It doesn't. A lot of people had to forgo holidays abroad this year, but if you stayed in the UK and had a short holiday in a hotel here, we would love to have your reviews. :D edit to add
I have recently added quite a few airport hotels- I think reviews for these can be as important as those for resort hotels

There are always plenty of posts asking for information on hotels, but then like the complaints section, lots of problems posted and help given. But it is rare that we find out what happened next.

I think that once home many are a bit fed up and have washing, ironing and work to get back to. The intentions are good but life takes over. Its never too late to write your review. :D

I wonder if everyone on HT are aware of the reviews section :think

I notice an awful lot of members on here are also members on Trip Advisor and they get 100s of hotel reviews every day, it's almost like the reviews section on TA is as prominent as the forums on HT and vice versa, if you get what I mean :)

Perhaps the review section could be more prominent somehow on here ? Interestingly when i was looking for a hotel in Gumbet I instantly came to HT but as others have said previously they were quite a few out of date or several with no reviews at all. Which is ironic given that when I checked TA the No. 1 spot in Gumbet is held by a hotel that doesn't even have one review on here :que Difficult to fathom out really.

p.s. I always try and keep short notes on my mob phone whilst on holiday so when I come back I use these to jog my memory when writing my trip report or hotel review

Unfortunately people are more likely to read a review than post one. Plenty people "use" the discussion forums to ask questions and get information, but don't think to repay by posting a review when they get back.

You don't need to be an accomplished author to write a review nor does the review have to be long and wordy. Even a very brief review stating the food was good/bad, staff friendly/unfriendly, room clean/not clean is better than no review at all.

Hi Luci

Good point, but I also think Miss Chief's comment is valid, the reviews are not hitting you in the face here as they are on TA, maybe they could be 'advertised' better here - perhaps on all the mods signatures they could have a brief promo - to say don't forget to write your reviews or something. Just a thought :think

Exactly, but not all the mods do it though, it was just a thought though :rofl Okay another thought, there are quite a few regulars on here and so we get to know who is going away, what about the mods asking the regulars to just mention to the people going away/coming back to write their reviews - or have a regular spot say once a week that comes to the top of the board wish flashing glizty font saying HOTEL REVIEWS POST HERE.

Keep the great suggestions coming :)

Seriously, it is good to get feedback.

I think people are more likely to sit down and write a review if they have had a bad holiday? Ie, if they enjoyed themselves and all went to plan they are more likely to not right one?

Maybe so, that's the point though - if the people that use HT to answer their questions, concerns etc, actually write a review, good or bad then that will benefit others. Maybe if we all got into the habit of telling everyone when we are going away and and a matter of course wrote the review when we got back, then others would follow suit.

Even something as simple as "highlighting" the Hotel Reviews section at the top of the page ? As it is it doesn't stand out from all the other links up there.

I've lost count of the amount of times I and others regularly point new members and some long standing ones to the hotel reviews section as they obviously can't/dont see it too easily.

I'd also like to see the "average user rating" for hotels differently in the list within each country. So intead of stars shaded or not something a little more precise. I'm not advocating a No.1 - No.50 postition like TA for each entry as these are always at odds with how many reviews the place has had....not unlike the user rating on here. I think it causes confusion.

It would be nice to sort a list from a drop down menu by stars or whatever else.....when there are 100s of premises listed it really hurts your eyes scanning for 5 or 4 starred ratings and then when you do find them you open it up to discover it's only had one review with all 5 stars given :duh To be honest that's why I always revert to TA before HT for hotel reviews. Especially if I don't have a specific property in mind.

I disagree, reading reviews on HT, TA & others suggest otherwise. Most people, me included want to share a good experience along with bad one's. I tend to find my good reviews are far, far longer than the bad reviews which are pretty short and sweet but to the point.

I always look forward to coming home to write up my review of where I've stayed..... well not look forward to it cos' that would mean my holiday was coming to an end but you know what I mean...more difficult now as we use prevately owned apartments generally.

I use HT & Trip Advisor for my reviews and have on occasion tried my luck on Travel Republic too. I don't like Trip Advisor becos' if you stay at the same place twice and have different experiences they will only allow your first review which is something I find ridiculous. 2 UK hotels I've stayed at and had 2 entirely different stays in each so I want to be able to say what my experiences were but I can't becos' they will only allow ONE review per person per hotel - as it stands one hotel has a glowing review when our second visit was atrocious and the other hotel has a bad review when our second stay was altogether more pleasant.

Perhaps a sticky at the top of each forum saying "BACK FROM HOLIDAY - DON'T FORGET YOUR REVIEW" and within the text explain how to do it for those that perhaps aren't quite so computer literate? Might jog a few memories!

I like the way the drop down is....searching alphabetically makes more sense than a rated system - perhaps listing by resort might be easier on the eye?

The problem i see with that one is what is the location or resort, pick a small resort then pick 4 travel agents and you will get 3 different locations, as an example the gold coast hotel in eastern Cyprus, some TA's will sell it as Permera [which is exactly where it is] some will sell as Protaras [and charge a bit more on the back of the facilities of Protaras] and some will sell as Paralimni which is the nearest main town and administrative centre of the Ammochostos [Famagusta] region, the same would apply to many resorts in umpteen countries at least listed alphabetically you have a reasonably quick way of finding your hotel

[by the way this is a personal observation not an official stance]
