Hi sunshinegirlie
no probs - this is what this forum is for!
there are no set dining times; the main restaurant is open for several hours for each of breakfast, lunch and dinner, and within those (quite generous) hours you are free to go when you like.
When you arrive you will be given a little card, and they don't really tell you what to do with it! On your first meal, as you go into the restaurant, find the maitre d' - he will be near the door - and give him the card. He will arrange for a waiter to find you a table. This is your table for the duration of your holiday, and the card will go into a little holder on the table.
You will also get a voucher ( or two -it's one per week of your stay) for the a la carte restaurants, one italian and one tunisian. You have to prebook your meals in these restaurants, which are not in the main building, but are in the long building to the left of the main driveway (looking from the gate) into the hotel. You book it at a set time each day with a chap who sits in the lobby ( usually at the golf desk)
Ignore what they tell you about "one for italian, one for tunisian". if you want two italian or two tunisian, or whatever you can do it.
As for the AI drinks, they are all 'local' brands. They have beer, whisky, rum (bacardi type) gin and the usual mixers. I don't think you will get actual Malibu and I don't know if they have a local equivalent.
You can get your bottled water at any bar, from the fridges there, which is great.
Soft drinks like cola, fanta etc tend to be self-service from the dispensers.

It's five weeks till we go to the Houda Beach Club, and it's also our first time in Tunisia and our first time away at New Year. I have loads of questions and will probably bore you all stupid before we go.
My main question at the moment is, will there be anything to do, i.e. will local markets be open etc as it's new year I'm a bit worried that we wont be able to get out and about.
Thanks for any help and I'm sure I'll have loads more to ask before I go cos I'm getting really excited now.
Thanks for that - what ever the weather it has to be warmer than it is here. I will be on with more questions over the next few weeks
we were at the houda hotel in october and while I can't say what it would be like in the winter time, I must say we had a lovely holiday there.
every thing about the hotel was great - the staff, the food, and the rooms - I really cannot fault it. The only thing was the queues at meal times, but I imagine it will be a bit quiter in the winter.
We took a bus into Monastir while we were there, which I must admit was a bit of an adventure, but it was fun.
I hope you enjoy your holiday at the houda
Jane
Glad you enjoyed the Houda Jane. Are there hair dryers in the rooms or will I have to take my own. Also are towels changed every day.
no there aren't hairdriers in the rooms, so you'll have to take one with you.
the towels are changed daily, we just put them in the bath when we'd used them and they changed them.
Ask away
Jane
Thanks Jane. Can't think of anything else at the moment but I'm sure I will - still four weeks to go. At least from what you've said the hotel is nice.
no problem Toni,
More questions I'm afraid.
What is the transfer time from Monastir to the hotel - not too long I hope.
Also, we get there quite late (land at 9pm I think) will we be able to get anything to eat/drink.
Thanks again for all your help
Toni xx
Don't worry, ask anything you like
The transfer time from the airport to the hotel is about 10 minutes on the coach. When you get to the airport, your luggage will be taken from you by a porter (well ours was anyway) and taken to your coach. They will expect a tip, so we had a few pound coins in our pockets so gave him one of them. Also, when we landed, I needed the loo, and when I came out there was a lady there with her hand out for a tip. As I only had pound coins I gave her one of those - that was the most expensive wee I'd ever had
With regards to food when you arrive, snacks are served at the pool bar until about 11.30. This was pizza and chips and rolls. I presume this will be the same when you go.

I know what Janelouise means about tipping but although the porters at the airport will try to grab your bags I've usually managed to hold on to mine, especially as I always take a taxi and prefer to haggle over the fare without the porter hanging round. The ladies in the loos have their hands out but I just smile and walk past if I haven't any Tunisian currency - a £1 for a p seems a very bad exchange rate. If the Bureau de Change is still open when you get to the airport and you change some money there you will get some coins as well, which is quite useful. If you can avoid any of this and are using the transfer provided you won't need money until you get to the hotel, where I'm sure you will be able to change some up, as they can usually do it even if it is outside their normal hours for changing money. The porter who takes your bags to your room will expect a tip however - £1 will do nicely.
Thanks everyone - I'm sure there will be more but I think the important things have been taken care of. I'm getting all excited now - 4 weeks today I'm off.
many will ask if you can change £1 coins if they have a few that they have been given
This always happens and I usually suggest they wait until we are due to go home as it is often more convenient for us to change up any left over dinars to sterling that way, rather than to try and change it at the airport.
I've heard lots of good and bad things about the water. Is it safe to drink and use to clean teeth etc, or should I make sure I get bottles.
Thanks again, Toni
Bottled water is definitely recommended for drinking as sometimes the stuff from the tap can taste a bit odd, though I've used it often enough to take tablets without any ill effects. I've always cleaned my teeth with tap water, though again many people will say you should use bottled. Bottled water from the supermarkets is quite cheap.
You can get 1.5 litre bottles of still water and 1 litre bottles of sparkling from the bars and resturants.
Jane
Thanks for that. As we're going All Inclusive I assume we can just get bottles of water if we want them. We've never gone AI anywhere before so we're not really sure how it works but assume we can get what we want
The bars open from about 10 in the morning and you can just go and get drinks as and when you want them.
The snack bar by the pool is open at 12 for lunch or you can go to the resturant at 12.30. Sometimes we used to go to the resturant and get our food and take it to eat at the pool area.
If you have anymore questions just ask.
