First, if it's for my main summer holiday it has to be somewhere hot and the evening temps will also mean that I don't need to take a jacket. Next it will have to be within a reasonable price, hence unless it's a very special occasion, forget Maldives, Australia, Dubai etc. If I've been long haul one year, the following year it will have to be a short/medium haul destination as I'm not over keen on flying. I then look to see what my local airport is offering and if I fancy anything there I won't look further as otherwise we have at least a 4 hour trip to another airport and back.

Finally, I research any country left on my potential list, that I haven't been to before but invariably I have to have a visit to one of the Greek islands at least once every couple of years.

I think the only other country I'd really like to visit but am reluctant to pay their prices is cyprus. I know there are a lot more expensive places but from what I've heard it's similar to Greece which I can get a lot cheaper.

The world is such a big place and there is so many wonderful things to see!!!

It is really hard for us to pick a country too..we tend to stick to what we know, which has been the Canary Islands, Egypt and Malta/Gozo. We then decided that every couple of years we would go somewhere new as a main holiday and have a shorter holiday at one of our faithful destinations.
As much of our leisure is based around scuba diving, this is one of the things we look for when choosing a destination. I also look for the history and culture of a place, what buildings etc there are for me to explore.

We also decided that we would go East, then West and carry on alternate when we look for new destinations..I am not really keen on long haul flying but accept it is a necessary evil!

I guess just take a globe. Spin it. Close your eyes. Stop the globe by pointing with your finger.
And yeahaaah - the country has been chosen))

We usually decide about 18 months in advance where we would like to go each year. This year due to me being on crutches we chose a short flight and are going to Benidorm. We love the place so thats okay :tup

Next year however we have decided to embark on another cruise. The only thing at the minute really is deciding which ports we would like to do/see. So when the cruise brochures come out in the end it will as usual come down to cost with me no longer working for a couple of years :)

I sort of have a list. I read a lot of travel literature and when I read about somewhere I find interesting I make a mental note about visiting one day. Unfortunately the list doesn't seem to get any shorter as usually on my travels I meet someone who has visited somewhere else that sounds really interesting so I decide it would be good to go there. I would really like to visit South America especially Chile but the years are passing by pretty quickly and I'm not sure I will still be able to handle the long haul travel/hassle for many more years.
OH rarely travels so most of my holidays are solo but I have persuaded him to start taking short one week trips to various European destinations with me, so we will probably revisit many of the places we went to 40years or more ago. A week in the Algarve next month being one, though it will be a first vist to Portugal for both of us.

For me - usually as solo traveller, would not go to known couply resorts or for the same reasons too many families - and also where I consider feeling safest. A cruise for me, was possibly the best as suited so many requirements, felt safe saw lots of places not seen before without having to pack and repack - mingled with people if I wanted to - there are quite a few places in the world where I would like to venture, but would not like to travel alone, not just because of safety etc but for companionship if you know what I mean.

For the last few years we have been going to Spain or the Canaries, simply because we know what we like and want from a holiday.
When we were younger (not that many moons ago :rofl ) we vsited most of the Greek islands and two or three resorts in Turkey also Malta and Cyprus and went to the Dominican Republic once, I vowed to never travel long haul again as the long flight didn't agree with me.
When we used to travel as a family it was mainly the Balearics.

My husband used to say there are so many lovely countries to visit why would anyone want to go to the same place twice but as we have got older our views have changed, so long as I have something to look forward to I am happy. :-D....Caz

Now we have the campervan our holidays are in Europe and are slowly making our way through different areas of France. Being on the road for 2 weeks means you see so many things that we never get bored. This year we are considering heading into Belgium and Luxembourg too...that is the beauty of the van.....as long as the tunnel is booked we can make up our minds once we hit the Continent.

We has also booked a 'cheapy' for June as a treat as I will have finished Uni. We didn't want a long flight as only a week so decided on Corfu. We have both been before but not with each other and we both love the Island. Wouldn't have really mattered where we went but I particularly love Greece.

A couple of years ago we went to Turkey as the Euro was so poor and neither of us had been. It was a nice holiday and would go again to another resort.

We went to the Gambia Christmas before last. What decided that was what would be the nearest place which would be hot.

I have been to Turkey for the last 10 years or so but we are also spending some time in Kos this year. Until my husband got his British passpot we were restricted to where we could go but now he has his passport I have a whoe list of places to visit, mainly when our girls are older and will be able to enjoy it more, places like Egypt for example, with lots of sightseeting that would be too much while they are little.

We are still going to be in Turkey for 2 weeks this year though, it would seem a bit odd not going after all this time of being there.
