hi, I'm a first time poster on this site.I Took my husbands visa application to Birmingham on the 14 Dec,but we still haven't had it back. getting a little concerned as we fly on the 7th Jan. I checked the tracking details and it says the following: your application is processed and sent to the respective office the high commission/ consulate general of India in the UK for further assessment. pls check our website. is says applicant date 21st Dec. but we went in and handed it in person on the 14th Dec. do you think we will get it back in time.

Although you delivered your application on 14th the 21st will be the date they first dealt with it so its only then that it appears on the system, its always a busy time of the year and due to the holiday period even more so, I would think you'll be ok :tup

thanks all for the reassurance. it wouldn't have even bothered me but the lady at the counter said we will receive it the following week. its been a lot longer than a week so was getting concerned. I'm hoping it comes in the next few days.

Hi again,

I've just checked the tracking on the VFS website and it say the following:

Processed visa application/passport has been collected from Application Center Manchester on 28-Dec-2011. Thank you for using our services.

I applied for hubby's visa at Birmingham office, so why does it say Manchester? also does it mean that I will get it in a few days? We paid the extra for the DX secure courier service, as would have cost us more to get there in petrol :(
Oh I hope it comes in time. Thank god I have an OCI :)

I signed up to the SMS/Email updates, I know it's £1.30, but is great for piece of mind.

Took my apps to Manchester on Tuesday 27th December. Received my first SMS on the 28th, to state that they'd been forwarded for processing. And have just got my second SMS, which stated that they're done and have been couriered today :D

We also paid for the sms/text service, and I only recieved one text from them. We didn't get the option of wanting or not, we just got charged.
However, we did recieve my husband's passport with Visa in it yesterday :)
Now I can be stress free.

Not having had to go through the online debacle as I did not make it out last year I did it today.
£12 for two 2inch photos
£11.60 for recorded delivery and Recorded Self Addressed Envelope
£42.60 for the privlige of paying online

Talk about making adminstration and art form

If it wasn't for the fact I love the people, culture and country I would tell them to shove it

And Destress - you will soon be there - 42 days and counting - that is if they accept the application!

But was told we would have apply again, another rip off :que has any body else had this experience?

I remembered someone saying on here that they'd got a 12 month visa so I've had a rummage and found this posted by member ukbill on 11/11/11 on page 136 of this thread:

Hi aarond,
Last February I decided to try for the 1 year visa, having been told by the staff at Edinburgh VFS that, after six previous 6M visas, this would likely be approved.
And it WAS! In Feb 2011 I got my 12 month visa which doesn't expire till Feb 2012.

So my last use of it will be in January 2012, however now I'm getting nervous that maybe the airline checkin staff will reject me because there's only just enough time left on the visa to cover my holiday period. Though other HTers have assured me I'll be OK.

Might be worth asking if the "six previous visas" thing is a general rule, or just the way Edinburgh operates before you cough up the extra fee. Apparently if they actually issue a shorter period visa than applied for, they do not refund the difference in cash.....

Pretty Pollycat that's what made me think I would possibly get a 12mth
Visa,if I had paid on line we would have lost £40 as they won,t refund
any money if you only get issued with a 6mth,we will probably go in
Jan/Feb 2013 and apply again, although hubby say,s this is the last time
£99 for 2 visa,s including postage plus £14 for 2sets of photo,s is getting
Out of hand

It sounds like UkBill got preferential treatment by CGI Edinburgh because he'd had 6 x previous visas.

Did you mention anything about that to the Cardiff centre?
Could you prove you'd had 6 previous visas?

We usually go November/Dec and again in Feb/March so we use the same 6 month visa which halves the cost per holiday.
Reply
Yes I have 6 visa,s but they are on our old passports we had to renew them early
As we needed 2 blank pages for the new visa, when told we could not have a 12mth
I did not think to query it,wish we had now.

:hols I am very happy to say we got our visas y/day for the first time ever we went to Dublin to get them we always send of to London ..

In Dublin we took the form one passport size photo and 100 euros for the Privilege of getting a visa on the same day we left it in around 10 am and had to go back and pick it up again at 4 o clock it was a simple as that 100 euros well spent if you ask me .
.if we had have got one from London I think it would have cost in and around £60 by the time you count the new size photos at Dublin yes it was 100 euros that worked out at £80 so for £20 we got them in our hand same day to me mony well spent .

If you were to want the visa posted back to you from Dublin its 50 euros plus 6 euros for the return envelop.... what a great feeling it is to now know all we have to do is sit back and wait for our travel day to come
