Hi Gel not sure how true this is but we we we chatting to someone in Goa this year who told us someone in their hotel has their applications returned because the photo was the same as the previous year. Before they started putting the photo on the visa I used the use any I had left over from the year before but don't think I would risk it now.
I could understand why the would only send max of 2 passports per return as special delivery prices are based on weight 2, the lowest price covers the weight of 2 but this is probably so they make more money when folks opt for the DHL return as I bet what DHL charge Vfs is less than VFs charge us.
I re read the VFS info and I think I'll need to send one return envelope for each passport as their site says :
'Self addressed Special Delivery Envelope (SDE) for return of one processed passport per envelope.'
Don't know if I can send them the two passports together in one SDE though. Maybe be better to send them individually as well?
You're probably right about the DHL costs.
I won't take the chance of using the same photos from last year. I'll just take new ones.
Gail
Gail i would send both on one envelope it shouldn't make any difference at all to them how they arrive the postage charges are high enough. Good luck with finding a flight.
I also asked the question about using last seasons photos but got no feed back off here, and didn't want to take the risk of rejection so bought new ones, we have a good camera but couldn't get the right lighting/background/no shadows so didn't use our own.
We took our own photos last year. Put a white sheet over a door and used that for background. We had no probs so will try the same thing again.
I really need to get the finger out and get the visas sorted and flights booked.
I wondered if I'd misread the information about the individual envelopes. In previous years we sent the two passports off together and enclosed one pre paid SDE. I just thought it was another change they'd made this year.
Good to know it's only the courier service that requires them. It's dear enough as it is.
Not looking forward to filling in the visa application. Even though I've done it before it always takes me ages.
It's a pity we won't see you this year.
Not long to go for you.
Gail
Just in case it's of interest to anyone, I have previously recommended Timpson for passport photography, but just looking at their website I see that they now also do 50mm x 50mm visa photos at some of their branches:
Hi, we returned home on Monday and there was a camera/photography shop 50 yds from where we stayed. They were doing a roaring trade in visa photo's I am pretty certain they charged 100 rps for 6 new visa ones, or 10 old size passport photo's........Keith
Hi KJF....where did you stay
cheers Keith
Still hated filling in the online application though. It takes ages.
We did our own photos last year and did the same again this time.
We used this site http://www.idphoto4you.com to make them the correct size and had no problems.
Gail
Does anyone know if there are any changes to visa regs this year. Will need to sort mine out shortly. Lat one was in 2010
Thanks
Bob
Only one passport per SDE allowed now which adds another expense.

Good luck Chilly, we will be sending off for ours next
I spent all morning trying to do the photo online using the website GEC used but had a nightmare downloading the photo and then when i did couldnt use it to upload to the VFS website as it was two pics together and so have sent her down the Post office now where it costs £4!!
looking forward to seeing you both
Chilly
Chilly just a little word of warning cos I know your not used to the applying for the visa but...our post office charges £7 for the visa sized photos and £4 for passport so make sure you do have the right size.
