Is this related to the decline in tourism?

Would be interesting to maybe start a discussion in March/April about the good and bad of the 08/09 season.

I guess it must be related to the downturn BN, compared to last year it does seem very quiet on the Goa forum, also not so many hotel reviews popping up. I wondered if it was my imagination :que Fizz

Credit crunch, security worries and the ongoing visa situation have impacted on Goa. The forum is still busy but not as much as in previous years. But have to admit that it more noticeable in the hotel reviews we have had so far this year. The new review markers are looking sparse. I put it down to the fact that Goa regulars are what is keeping Goa going and most return to the same accomodation therefore don't see the need to post a new review. However, I think it is important to post a further review, even just to confirm that the standards are the same.

Morjim was beautifully quiet today, we had a wonderful time and the sea was just amazing, calm and gentle... a great day!!but yes quiet, we just bought 20 rps worth of sardines (a huge load of them) from the fish market and loads of lush fresh veg.... for pennies... so bon appetite!! ........yes I think Goa is quieter and the forum too... perhaps as Fiona says the recession, credit crunch, and the stress entailed... of jobs etc......... I keep trying to blank it all out, which is easier with out constant TV news ... ...and not to mention the visa changes, :duh enough to put the hardy off I would think!!

To be honest I read 99% of the posts but sometimes I get sick and tired of the same repeat questions and threads so I mostly ignore those posts and make no contribution towards them at all. Youre only answering the same questions over and over again. There is a search button at the top of the page which should be used much more frequently, in my opinion.

Chilly, I don't want to be a party pooper but even YOU will have to come back to reality (UK) at some point ;)

I know what you mean Gemma and I think I have no doubt been guilty of not using the search facility sometimes, I think even this "hasn't it gone quiet" topic has been covered before :think :duh

Its a shame its gone quiet on the Goa forum though and it would be nice to see some new reviews - good, bad or indifferent. :cheers Fizz

:( I know Fizz, but not for a while yet and then not for too long thankfully!!! It just all sounds so depressing back there.... and cold!!!

i agree with you on that one Gemma, I think sometimes people just dont know about the search engine, or how to use it effectively, or cant be bothered to trawl through? it does get irritating and like Fizzy i too have done it I know :whoops but sometimes it does get very repeptative getting the same question particularly when not very difficult to read through!!

There is a forum I use which is handy for information but I really have to think hard before posting. Their search engine is not as good as ours and if anyone dare ask something that has been covered then they are pounced upon. It can feel really hostile. As you both have said, if you see something that has been asked a few times and you can't be bothered answering then its best to leave it. Have to say this forum is great with newcomers though. When a destination is brand new to you, its really exciting and you want to take part in the forum and ask your questions. The thing with the majority of Goa members is that it is NOT new to them. But I never see any impatience with new posters. :tup

I agree with Fiona, theres a number of forums not just holiday ones where regulars can be very offputting when a question has been asked before. The Goa Forum does seem to be the exception to this and its good to see that most questions do get a great response regardless of how many times its been asked before.

I am a little ashamed to say that although Ive been a regular visitor to Goa over the last 10 years I have learned a lot from this forum Ive had a great time trawling back over the 50 odd pages and reading old reports threads etc its been a way of keeping Goa close to me til next winter all being well.

..or....if you don't want to repeat yourself, do the search for the 'newbies', provide them with the link (on whatever)..then....then...ever sooo gently point them in the direction of THIS link - specifically paragragh 8 :tup

No this forum isnt hostile at all but then again it is strict in so many other ways that I wonder why the repetitive questions scenario has never been picked up on :think In some ways I think it should be addressed but ive noticed, particiuarly this season, that it is way out of hand.
I wonder how many separate threads there are here about dentists and opticians :que it doesnt bear thinking about :rofl

merged with earlier thread :rofl
Gemma- I haven't been well for a while and I am often having to get help with the forum therefore there will probably more repeated questions. However, the question of merging is a difficult one because as many hate it as love it and not really one for this thread. :)
Back ontopic now-
It is inevitable that there is a fall in posting numbers- factors already brought up of terrorism threats, recession, visa carry on and some just not liking the changes they saw the last time they holidayed there. It is still a busy forum- in fact, the busiest alongside the Turkey forum.
