To remove captials.
we travelled to the pyramids last august with our two young children we also went by coach from Hurghada, it was one of the best trips we have done and perfectly safe we done a two day trip so stayed in cairo overnight which was best as we got to see the light show at the pyramids and also it wasn't so much travelling in one day. Hope this helps we still talk about a visit to the pyramids now it was so amazing
plus on a coach for the return trip, there is no reason why she shouldn't go to the pyramids.
Personally, from Hurghada, I would prefer to visit Luxor (tombs, , Karnack etc) as there is far more to see and do, not so far to travel (3-4 hours by road each way) , and a far nicer city than Cairo but I can understand why someone would want to see such a wonderful site.
Also please be aware that both Cairo and Luxor are exceedingly hot in the summer (May-Oct) with temperatures into the forties. As Cairo can get a bit polluted, it can feel almost "smoggy" so she should be prepared for this - Hurghada in comparison will seem cool in the mid thirties!!
I wouldn't suggest she tries to actually enter the pyramids (unless she is especially fit and agile) as it is not easy underfoot, and a fair hike - a fair percentage of it requiring stooping quite severely. Not at all recommended for anyone the slightest bit claustrophobic either (insufficient room to even squeeze 2 abreast and roof height of about five foot in places) However, so long as she is up for spending 9 hours Personally, from Hurghada, I would prefer to visit Luxor (tombs, , Karnack etc) as there is far more to see and do, not so far to travel (3-4 hours by road each way) , and a far nicer city than Cairo but I can understand why someone would want to see such a wonderful site.

Hi my mum is 68 and travelled from Sharm to Cairo for the day trip and she really really suffered. She was squashed, herded etc in her own words and wouldnt do it again. We flew more expensive but more comfortable.
Agree with Nana26 far better by plane. 50 mins/1 hour by plane as opposed to 6 1/2 hours each way by coach plus its very hot in june and be mindful that it isn't exactly easy to even walk around the pyramids let alone go inside one
June was 55 and i would never ever visit at that time again, my mum is 62 and usually fit but collapsed and spent the day in the coach, people wouldn't get off the coach as it was draining. Cairo is nice to say you have visited the pyramids, but Luxor is where all the history is in my opinion, but wouldn't go to either in the summer. In Cairo it was so hot that my shoes melted to the floor, the museum wasnt AC either when we went.
thanks for your info very useful still dont know wheather to go to pyramids we will be taking a traveling wheelchair, has anyone disabled been there ? we dont expect to go inside she just wants to see them
But saying this, if you want to go hun and no disrespect, but if she is in fairly good health otherwise, you may need to take this chance while you can. If you have had enough, you can always go back to the AC coach.
When we went in august we booked with thomas cook so there was only a few of up on a lovely air con mini bus but i'm not sure about room for a travelling wheelchair, perhaps you may have to wait until you are there and ask the rep it would be a shame not to go if she really wants to see them but it would also be very hard work pushing a wheelchair around as its not the smoothest of grounds

When I looked at the website I noticed they can adapt tours for wheelchair users and/or people with disabilities. If money is not the primary concern but the once in a lifetime opportunity is, why not consider a private tour which can be centred around your mother's requirements?
I went a couple of years ago in June travelling from Hurghada. It was about 8 - 9 hours each way by coach and as everyone else has said was SO SO hot that all I really wanted to do was get back on the coach again. However, I may be going back to see the pyramids in July (yes, I know it will be even hotter) and was thinking of flying there so another member of this forum gave me the website for a tour company they used When I looked at the website I noticed they can adapt tours for wheelchair users and/or people with disabilities.
